huh... first of all i'm 21 so i i think i'd be considered an adult

anyway yes i think it is a sign of desperation, most price drops are, price drops are usually your last card left before loosing market sales, the problem is sometimes it's a two edged sword, as most of the times it only gives a temporary boost in sales, just look at Europe, it dropped 100 euros in price for all SKUs (that's 150 dollars) and it only had a sales boost for two or three weeks before it dropped to its regular 50-70K

Not when its been 3 year's and they have only dropped the system $100. The 360 is going into it's 4th year so a $199 isn't that drastic.

If the 360 had a sudden drop in sales for month's and they dropped it $50-100 then that would be considered desperate, but the 360 is still going pretty steadly and a price drop like this before the holiday season isn't uncommon.

Overall though I really wont care till its $99 so I can buy a rather cheap second one.

yes but like i said a price drop is you only card left before loosing market share, if they used it then it means one of two things:

A) They think the increase in sales will make up for the price drop

B) they are preparing for some kind of "offensive" from the competition (probably the FF 13 demo anouncement)

2008: PS2 costs 125 dollars

My friend does, but he just slapped on the 20gb HDD from his old rrod'ed pro. Its exactly the same other than lacking a hard drive.

No hdmi too.

It has hdmi. You're thinking of the old Core model, the Arcade added HDMI and wireless controllers. All new 360's have hdmi now.

the guy who took these pics also comfirmed the other prices over on neogaf, so this would seem legit. It's looks like its just the way their system stores the next price, unless anyone thinks they're discontinuing the premium and elite too? :P

Sony cut its price of the PS3 by 1/3 in one years time - they've done this before with the PS2, dropping its price by 1/3 and that was hardly desperate. Again, you think this: "probably to hold over the lead" Which, in essence, tells us one thing: You have no idea. Quit spouting non sense - simple really. Microsoft isn't desperate, and Sony wasn't desperate. It's simple business tactics which have been around for MANY, MANyY, many years.
