2007- Xbox 360 Sells 7.3 Million, Sony PS3 Sells 8.8 million!

"Today sony released its Q3 figures showing sales of 4.90 million units worldwide.

The total for 2007 is now 8.83 million units, taken from official Sony numbers

According to Gamespot, Microsoft's tally for 2007 was 7.3 million units.

Microsoft had many of their heavy hitters last year and still could not mange to beat Sony. This just proves that places outside of the US can have a big effect in sales.

well, this is actually probably true. This year was Sony's launch in Europe and it beats 360 in Japan, so I'm not really surprised

Well, I think between sony and m$, the first company to get their console priced 200 dollars or less will win. Look what happened with the PS2. Of course, the wii will sell like hotcakes forever. I see M$ pulling 2nd this gen simply cuz they are in a better price position.

Sony also doesn't have a billion dollar hardware flaw to address. Or possibly, flawS.

So the question is this: Did Sony pull a MSFT and stuff the holiday quarter with an over abundance of systems?

If someone says no, then please answer why software sales are not keeping pace? Maybe they are all like me and just looking to buy one as a Blu Ray player first? I'm going with a combo of channel stuffing and marketed as the best Blu Ray player (it is for the price/quality and profile 2.0 upgradability).

Microsoft shipped 1.5 million at launch, 8.8 million in 2006 and 7.3 million last year, (Only shipped 1.3 million first 6 months of the year, RRoD is to blame.)

Xbox 360 shipped: 17.7 million

Playstation 3 shipped: 10.49 million

Realistically Microsoft screwed up with the hardware failures, if they didn't have to cut back shipments for early 2007 they could have faired much better. It's entirely their own fault.

They need to perform strong for the first half of this year to make up for it.

Agreed. They should have had this competition wrapped up with

1) an early jump to market

2) a strong library

3) the best online network

All that in their favor and they still couldn't put away the competition

Sony is quite popular worldwide -- in North America though, Microsoft beats Sony 3 to 1. Japan is the only reason Sony outsold them worldwide.

PS3 - 7.51 million

I would never use MS' or Sony's numbers as they always lie about actual units sold. I don't want numbers for total units shipped.
