The PS4 and Nextbox will be more powerful, but not by much. Microsoft will forego system power in favor of the Kinect, and Sony will look to expand on the investment into Cell. The Wii U will be the PS2 of next generation.RulerofGondor

It's one thing to say this is what you think will happen, and another to claim it will happen.

Okay, it's common sense. Let's see. Microsoft loses money with the Xbox as long as they focus on the hardcore. Microsoft earns a lot of money when they focus on the casual market with Kinect. Exactly, and while Microsoft focuses on the casuals, Nintendo can focus on the hardcore gamers while already having the casuals with the Wii. It will be complete domination.

Although certainly possible, and in some ways, quite likely, but that's some wild speculation there. Heavily supporting the kinect does not imply the hardware won't be top notch. These two things are almost mutually exclusive. What MS will do is bundle the Kinect with the Nextbox, to make it a standard peripheral, but not necessarily go the Wii route. And you obviously have the perception that high end hardware will cost a bomb in R&D. While potentially true, MS and Sony can always opt for the standard hardware already in the market like the GTX590 or HD6990, or even the HD7970 when it comes out. That way AMD and Nvidia would have done all the R&D and the only thing left to do is to implement.

Let's say by next gen, Nvidia and AMD's GTX780 and HD7970 are already out. If Sony and MS were to just put these cards into their consoles, and perhaps maybe SLI/Crossfire it, their consoles would already be a gargantuan. Perhaps even 10 times faster than the Wii U. High R&D cost would only be incurred if Sony and MS want hardware that is about 6 months to a year ahead of PC hardware. But of course, in the example i made, the consoles will be on par with the PC at launch, which doesn't bode well for their life-cycles.

Nintendo will not dominate this gen and here are 5 great reasons why.

1. the economy still blows. you know it i know it and gondors possibly imaginary cat knows it.

2. nintendo lost a good chunck of the casual to apple,kinect, and boredom

3. nintendo lost a lot of the core through there arrogance by making 1 good game come out this entire year,lack of new core ips and lack of power

4. the wii u will be expensive and its doubtful that a tablet controller will be better than a traditional.

5. nintendo still has a weak third party. while its true tekken and darksiders along with a few other games will show up there still wont be any bioshock on the wii u and many games will be slightly upgraded 360/ps3 ports
