I agree with you both. I think what jlevin860 was saying was that the story of UC2 is like a lot of action movies, which is true, but I think that it does it pretty well. And if MGS4 were to edit its story, then they would take away part of what made the game unique. One thing that MGS4 clearly has UC2 beat is in variety. Both are amazing games.

I will concede than MGS4 has more variety, but sadly, it has less than previous MGS games.
Less variety? Actually one of the main things that reviewers mentioned is that MGS4 had more variety than the previous ones. You can execute any mission in any way you see fit. Whereas in MGS3, the gunplay was lacking and the controls were a little clunky, they made it much better in MGS4.The claim that you can execute any mission in any way you see fit is highly hyperbolic. Basically, it comes down to light stealth (with some admittedly cool toys) and shooting. I'm not really seeing these endless ways to execute your mission.
What I mean is that there are less quirky scenarios in MGS4. There are less moments when the game surprises you with something out of left field, like the pacemaker scenario in 2 or the boss fight against The End in MGS3 or the bomb detonation mission in MGS2. It just came across as more of a shooter.
