I agree with you both. I think what jlevin860 was saying was that the story of UC2 is like a lot of action movies, which is true, but I think that it does it pretty well. And if MGS4 were to edit its story, then they would take away part of what made the game unique. One thing that MGS4 clearly has UC2 beat is in variety. Both are amazing games.

gaming25

I will concede than MGS4 has more variety, but sadly, it has less than previous MGS games.

Less variety? Actually one of the main things that reviewers mentioned is that MGS4 had more variety than the previous ones. You can execute any mission in any way you see fit. Whereas in MGS3, the gunplay was lacking and the controls were a little clunky, they made it much better in MGS4.

The claim that you can execute any mission in any way you see fit is highly hyperbolic. Basically, it comes down to light stealth (with some admittedly cool toys) and shooting. I'm not really seeing these endless ways to execute your mission.

What I mean is that there are less quirky scenarios in MGS4. There are less moments when the game surprises you with something out of left field, like the pacemaker scenario in 2 or the boss fight against The End in MGS3 or the bomb detonation mission in MGS2. It just came across as more of a shooter.

[QUOTE="gaming25"] The detail work is sort of lacking. It also looks a little cartoony. Just look at the characters in that MGS4 pic, and you will see how much detail was put into MGS4 graphics.gaming25

Neither look cartoony, but neither look particularly realistic.

MGS4 does have some excellent character model work, but the environments are just so much flatter and more simplistic than that of UC.

I'm not sure how you can say the detail is lacking in the UC pics but then act like MGS4 has alot of detail. I mean, all you have to do is take one look at both of those sets of pictures and it's clear that the MGS pics look more "simple". There's just not as much to the graphics as there is to Uc.

Also, speaking of character models, have you seen Drake's clothes when he gets wet? There's nothing like that in MGS4.

Just curious, do you think that MGS4 looks better than UC2?

Nope. I agree that UC2 looks better than MGS4.

Then it's hard to see why you think MGS4 looks better than UC1.

That is your opinion TC, I respect that. Miroku32

The least the TC could do is explain his opinion, so as to generate more discussion.

MGS2 has more variety than MGS4. MGS2 had two sniping missions: one where you have to disarm explosives and one where you have to keep Emma safe. MGS2 also had you running around big shell and looking for explosives in order to freeze them (disarm). There was also swimming and guiding Emma, disguising yourself as an enemy soldier in order to find Ames among a group of hostages using a microphone, photographing Metal Gear Ray, etc.

MGS4 didn't have any diverse mission; it was just pure action. Nothing really stood out.

That is due to the variety of environments in Uncharted 2, but the visual fidelity in the jungles wasn't huge by any stretch of the imagination...

The final boss fight was just fighting if I'm not mistaken. It wasn't all that interesting IMO. I liked the way they played all the series music during that fight though. Nice touch.

Metal Gear Ray .vs. Rex shook things up a bit, but I don't think it had anything on the more subtle scenarios in earlier games.

The Beauty and Boss Fights were not very interesting when compared to the boss fights in the other games. They seemed much more generic.

Well I was mostly talking the gameplay outside from the boss fights. I didn't enjoy the boss fights, aside from MGRay v MGRex. IDK, the B&B Corps felt like watered-down versions of boss fights from previous games. Also, they weren't meaningful since you knew nothing about them, and they didn't really play a vital role in the story unlike Dead Cell and Foxhound.

Ray v Rex was one of the few things I liked about MGS4. One of my favorite boss fights in the MGS series. And despite the terrible controls, I also enjoyed the last fight, mostly because of nostalgia, but it just was fighting. We've seen that before in MGS1.

I fail to see how it "perfected the genre". It's stealth elements are very light.

I think it's a better overall game than Splinter Cell, but there is no denying that SC has deeper stealth elements.

Not to mention that MGS games have rather counter-intuitive controls.

It's not even the best game on the PS3. If you're a MGS fan then I could see how you'd think that, but for some of us the entire premise, the voice acting, the cut scenes, and the characters just make us want to puke from all the cheese.

Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory does a great big crap on every single MGS game ever made. If you are a fan of the stealth genre then you will know that Splinter Cell is a way better game in pretty much every single aspect. Not saying MGS is bad as I really enjoyed the first one. The 4th one was a bit of a joke to be honest though. The story was the biggest piece of crap I have ever witnessed in a video game and you could tell that they were just thinking of it as they went along.

First of all, Splinter Cell is also a stealth game and is often compared to MGS. Not to mention that it was all ready part of the conversation.

Secondly, when I say "stay inside the scope of the situation," I mean that when he says that people are ignoring the flaws of Halo: Reach and Black Ops, that doesn't make sense because nobody mentioned those games and thus he doesn't know that people are ignoring their flaws.

Thirdly, because maybe I don't want to?

The microwave sequence is arguably the best sequence ever in a video game.gaming25

I fail to understand what people saw in that scene. I thought it was pretty poor personally.

Nobody even mentioned Black Ops and Halo: Reach.

I mean, I know you're annoyed that people are saying negative things about precious MGS4, but atleast try to stay within the scope of the conversation.

GreySeal9

Well why don't you tell the guy that first mentioned Splinter Cell into this conversation to stay within the scope?

First of all, Splinter Cell is also a stealth game and is often compared to MGS. Not to mention that it was all ready part of the conversation.

Secondly, when I say "stay inside the scope of the situation," I mean that when he says that people are ignoring the flaws of Halo: Reach and Black Ops, that doesn't make sense because nobody mentioned those games and thus he doesn't know that people are ignoring their flaws.

Thirdly, because maybe I don't want to?

So? Uncharted is often compared to ME, Killzone 2/3 to Gears which are all completely different games from each other. When you talk about staying in the scope it means focusing on the flaws of the subject, MGS4, and forget about the flaws of other games that are being compared it...? Yeah I gotcha. Fourthly, because maybe you can't accept MGS4 was just a better game?

True, clearly i dont agree which is what i meant with my post.

If the TC doesnt want to hear different opinions on the matter, why make a thread in SW?.

That is true lol. Personally I think everyone hates way too much around here :P.

That's cool and I respect your opinion. I personally found MGS4 to be one of biggest dissapointments this gen, and also it's my least favorite MGS title.

Better game that what? Why should I need to accept that MGS4 was better than anything?

I know you want to assist your MGS loving comrade, but he claimed that people are ignoring the flaws of Black Ops and Halo: Reach, yet nobody mentioned these games at all. They don't even exist in this conversation, thus his claim is absurd.

What about that is difficult to understand?

You know, I've been here long enough to realize that sometimes it's not even worth arguing for, you argue hypocrisy with hypocrisy, you argue ignorance with ignorance, you argue the same thing over and over with the same thing over and over. Seriesly though, it gets kinda tiring arguing the same thing over and over so there's really no point. You may think that MGS4 has its flaws but to the fans and to those who enjoyed the game, to them it's the best.

Seriesly though, what exactly are we trying to accomplish here? 10 more pages?
