343 managed to make an even more forgettable campaign than Halo 4.

I thought it wouldn't be possible but by god they did it. Halo 5 is the worst and it's not even close. They even brought in the dude who wrote the story for Uncharted/TLOU but he infiltrated and sabotaged the biggest franchise in gaming history. MS needs to close up shop, cuz it's basically over. I beat the game and I honestly can't remember a single thing about that shitshow.

Halo 4's campaign was good. It focused on character building, while some people might think that's boring, I don't. Masterchief stopped being a one-dimensional soldier archetype character. It built his character's relationship with a certain character. It was a good campaign, but Halo 5's wasn't anything like it. It was really bad, really, REALLY bad.

Disappointing and over in the blink of an eye. Very forgettable.

Need to skip Locke and just go with MC.

That was a decision they should have made early on before releasing the game. What they need to do is stop making games entirely. This a dev team full of untalented rejects who lack creativity. They need to just **** off.

I loved Halo 4. Halo 5 campaign was just awful it's obvious the whole thing was geared towards MP. I honestly think they should have made it MP only, the campaign was an insult to Halo fans.

I saw an interview a week before release with some jackass from 343 with his cap on backwards replying to questions about the SP by saying the MP was going to rock. Fucking tool. Halo as a single player story driven experience is completely dead.

343 have the Halo brand and that comes automatically with millions of fans regardless of who's developing it and how well it turns out. If you spent $200+ on Halo 5 goodies, you would probably feel inclined to JUSTIFY your decision and defend the game at all costs as well publicly even if you silently and personally agreed.

For the record, 343's main 2012 Halo 4 had a metascore of 87/100 and their 2014 Halo Collection (MCC) was an 85/100, although the latter wasn't a main Halo entry.

MC is Halo, period. I appreciate how they wanted to add charcters, expand and such, but people such as myself want to play as MC like in Halo3.

They added characters but they didn't expand on a single fucking thing. Nobody who hasn't read all the books (books are not videogames, bit of info there) will have any clue who these characters are which means they won't care about them and even within that incredibly limited context they appear in Halo 5 they still didn't do anything, the story was riddled with plot holes and zero exposition from new characters or 343 who were presumably trying to one shot each other in the office when they were supposed to be producing a fucking videogame.

Sorry for the rant but I have never been so let down by a game I was really looking forward to as much as Halo 5.

They did an amazing job with Halo MCC and the ODST remaster. Halo 4 was great too (I know you didn't like it) but the backlash from Halo MCC MP was a wake up call for them so Halo 5 was all about MP and **** single player that is where they deserve abuse, nowhere else. Worst of all for me was the Hunt The Truth marketing campaign in which they blatantly lied about what would happen in Halo 5 and then produced a steaming pile of shit single player campaign.

I actually liked Halo 5's campaign better than Halo 4, but that's not saying much. The story is terrible in both games, but Halo 5 at least had some interesting level design and the spartan abilities added some gameplay variety.

The MP is a huge improvement though, so I'm happy. Had a full party playing BTB yesterday, playing my favorite Halo 2 map (Headlong). It was glorious.

Preferred Halo 4's campaign, but 5's wasn't outright bad. It focused too much on Osiris, and not enough on Blue Team.

They made mistakes in the design, sure, but the meat of the game is the gameplay which is still pretty solid, and the MP. Plus, I don't regret waiting for it or getting it at all, I feel for the better now having played it and still able to play the MP (when I free up more time not juggling everything).

I would agree though I liked Halo 4's campaign more. Furthermore I'm sure they could have had an equally impressive game using the MCC's Halo 4 engine with full 1080p/60fps without the need for variable resolution, which probably would have allowed them more time to focus on the campaign and less so on making a new functional engine.

I never liked the story in Halo campaigns, and Halo 5 is no exception. It seriously puts me to sleep. I enjoy COD campaigns 10x more. Halo 5 has an amazing multiplayer though so I really have I beef here.

It's not like it's some light-hearted platformer or action RPG like Mario or Zelda that can carry on for decades.

It's a fucking FPS that has steadily reduced in quality over the years.

Combat Evolved was amazing and truly groundbreaking...but neither Bungie nor 343 ever really did anything to evolve it into something greater.

Microsoft has been milking Halo and Gears for a long fucking time now.

And I'm hoping that Sony moves on from stuff like God of War and Uncharted to invest in some new IP's as well. Tired of playing the same shit over and over with a new coat of paint slapped on.

I had absolutely no problem with Halo 5's campaign, it's the middle section of a trilogy and is intended to lay the ground work for a conclusion. The entire game is about Master Chief, even if you do not play as him very much the entire game is revolved around him and his hunt for Cortana played from the perspective of a third party trying to track him down as he's AWOL. I really don't see what the problem is, Halo in a game capacity has never been about extreme depth in story telling and now it's being panned for exactly what it has always been. It's pretty clear exactly what is going on, who everyone is, what they're doing and why they're doing it.

I can understand the criticism from people but I find it to be criticism based upon strange expectations and ignorance. Moreso than the game not being defined and clear, it seems to me like most people don't know what in the hell is going on when it's abundantly clear to some of us, I would call that a personal problem.

Just because you didn't understand what they were going for don't be pandering this bullshit on me, the game was created for those who know and understand the lore, if you don't know it then what in the hell are you doing playing the FIFTH numbered entry in the game franchise...

These characters don't need to be explained, they don't need a back story, that already exists regardless of being on another medium, any synopsis on the internet can explain all you need to know in 5 minutes. The marketing depicted exactly what took place in the game, Locke hunting John and him not knowing John's intentions which could have led to galactic destruction via Cortana and the Guardians. You reading into the marketing too much and trying to create context in your head that doesn't exist isn't anyones fucking problem but your own, so get your shit sorted out.

@nyadc: If you need to read a book to know what going on in a video game they messed up. I know you will defend it regardless, but it's OK to not defend your messiah at every turn...

The game was enjoyable. The story was shit but the gameplay was amazing and at the end of the day, that's what I care about.

You don't need a book, the books compile the entirety of the remaining story, however there are breakdowns of the lore which can be gone over in the matter of minutes which explain everything you need to know if you look.

We're all ignorant because we didn't enjoy the SP. :D God I love this place.

They are working on fixing that glitch. I haven't experienced it yet for some odd reason.

Halo 5 story is definitely weak(I could still understand a lot of things about it), but it makes up for it with the great gameplay. I liked the more open environments in halo 5 for example in the campaign. I also did not like fighting the warden 5+ times in the campaign to.The multiplayer is amazing, but flawed.

343 has made me hate Halo.

And for the record whereas I was also bit bummed out campaign was not the longest and I wasn't a fan how it divided Locke's and Chief levels, I also admit that it made itself instantly replayable and the whole coop thing all the more meaningful regardless of the level we want to start with.
