We all know the PS3's Blu-Ray holds up to 50GB duel layer, but with DVD9, will 360 be holding PS3 GTA back from reaching it's full potential (ig: bigger map, more pedestrians,HD, sound) I'm just curious ;)

If Mass Effect is able to fit on a DVD-9, then I'm sure that GTA IV will be able to do so as well.

If the developers felt that DVD-9 would limit them then they would not have brought it to the Xbox 360 in the first place.

i don't think so they can release it one more than one disc if they really want to and extra areas can always be added later via download onto the hard drive

Considering that time and time again the 360 version of games on both systems looks and sometimes plays better the better question is will the PS3 hold GTA:IV back from its true potential.

No matter how you cut it GTA:IV will not be a bigger game overall content wise than Oblivion or Mass Effect, and both fit on a DVD9, even id the developers of the latter say just barely. Hell, even Crackdown streams a gigantic city nonstop with almost zero popup. No, the 360 won't be holding GTA:IV back in any way, IMO.

Do you know how much longer it would take Rockstar to even come close to filling up a Blu-Ray disc? You might as well expect a release more than another year and a half from now.

Mass Effect fits on a DVD-9, GTA will fit on a DVD-9. Mass Effect has over one hundred locations to explore, many which will be huge, some say even the size of Oblivion.

Maybe four or five years from now in the start of the next generation will a new disc format be needed.

I heard a rumor that the extra content will already be installed on the PS3 version because of the extra space, is this true? if so, im definantly getting the PS3 version.

a lot has to do with uncompressed sound and things like that..... mass effect fits on a regular dvd... and that game is HUGE.. but YES, crossplatform developers will probably not put in the extra effort (which is odften a lot for PS3 since it's hard to develop for) to optimise games for PS3.... it's just too much work/ time/ money...

exactly. Most developers don't even know how to use the space in a Blu-Ray disc.... so in a sense it is kind of pointless to have all that extra storage if no one is using it.

Ironic, considering how much the PS2 held the GTA series back last gen. My guess is no though. No CGI in the GTA series.

I have to disagree with you big time, In Vice City, the area was so small that it felt like i was restrained all the time, and with the loading screens between islands, that just killed it.  But in SA, i felt more free, especially without the loading screens. IMO, bigger is better, more freedom, more fun.

So the new GTA:IV trailer will be strictly gameplay? or just run off of the game engine?

The trailer is not the game... I have no idea what the trailer will be. GTA games have never used CGI before... Don't see why they would start now.

In Vice City, I found there was more than enough room for me to explore. In San Andreas I felt bored, going between cities in an area with literally nothing in between.

The length of SA also killed it. It was dragged on far too long. The missions in San Fierro were extremely bland and recurring. They should have just ended the story after leaving Los Santos and started a new, second story in Fierro and Venturas.

I took a look back at my saves from VC and SA a while ago, before I had to erase them to make room, and my play time in VC was over 350 hours, while SA was only around 200. I had so much fun, driving around the city, listening to the radio and exploring the extremely cliched atmosphere. VC was gold, SA was... meh...

Take the gameplay elements from SA and stick them in VC and you have yourself a major success. I want to see a GTA take place in Moscow with the KGB and Russian mafia. With accumlating snow and ice... and having a set of sub-missions where you get to take up a job as a street clearer. :D

If the PS2 can handle an area the size of SA, I would not be one to doubt the abilities of the 360 and DVD9. And since when will Rockstar take the time to use all that extra space when they want to get the game out and start making money?

March 9th in IMAX!

I'm seeing an advance screening on the 5th. Some organization at my school (Boston University) managed to snag a private advance screening. I'm looking forward to this movie as much as I was looking forward to Matrix Reloaded. Let's hope I won't be as disappointed.

Mass Effect barely fits on a DVD-9 according to the developers, it was originally planned to be two discs i dont think it will affect GTA4, since all they want is the money so they desgined the game to be big enough for DVD-9, so itll be fine

Mass Effect 2 will be definately be multiple discs.

Blue Dragon is.

towards the end of this gen, top Xbox 360 games will multiple discs.

That really depends how far Rockstar Games want expand GTA. I would like to see a complete country (packed in with stuff to do there instead of useless areas only for looks), along with real-time airplane traveling to other foreign country like German and Japan. But that's asking too much for a current generation game. I'm a video game ideal expert. Too bad theres no major for that.

You guys do realize compression technology gets better over time right? Mass Effect should have been 2 disk but becfause of COMPRESSION is on one disc, this technology gets better over time, so no only ignorant fanboys who like fappin' to CGI will be attracted to BLU_RAY

I haven't seen a PS3 game yet that truly makes a case for the need of 50 gigs of storage space. I'm not a fan of games with millions of cutscenes, so if that is the reason for the need of the extra space they can keep it. I'm a gamer and I want to play games not watch them.

Yes, yes it will.... but then again if every xbox owner buys teh zephyr or a bigger hardrive for their 360 they might be able to download the difference in space on to their 360 ( therefor people who dont have a big enouigh hardrive at least 41 gb and doesnt have internet is screwedlol) but then again they are doing it so, guess they are compressing it pretty well :)

I think content wise the PS3 version could have a lot more, however it is questionable as to whether Rockstar is willing to put a lot more stuff into the game. I think overall you will find that even if the games have the exact same content, the PS3 will probably render the game a bit better and it will have uncompressed data depending on the games size.

If Mass Effect is able to fit on a DVD-9, then I'm sure that GTA IV will be able to do so as well.

If the developers felt that DVD-9 would limit them then they would not have brought it to the Xbox 360 in the first place.

well look at blue dragon it is a 3 disc game and ea disc is dl so then they will make it into more disc.

I think content wise the PS3 version could have a lot more, however it is questionable as to whether Rockstar is willing to put a lot more stuff into the game. I think overall you will find that even if the games have the exact same content, the PS3 will probably render the game a bit better and it will have uncompressed data depending on the games size.DSgamer64
I think they will be the same due to the 360 having better compression and faster disk speeds...also the 360 has more memory usable overall

I think so. It would have been nice to see Rockstar fully explore blu-ray, but it looks like they won't be able to because of the 360's DVD-9 restraints. I am sure Rockstar will take full advantage of everything else on the PS3 though.
