[QUOTE="ArchaoN"]First of all, I know what the Japanese did and I know how horrible it was... Secondly, no, nukes were no NECESSARY. We could have just as easily used regular bombs for an extended period of time and cut off their resources, which we were doing, until they gave up. This isn't about a history lesson anyway. The point is, there is no way the Japanese will ever accept the Xbox brand as superior to Nintendo or Sony's products, and the nukes have a lot to do with it and I don't blame them.tirralirra
I'm sorry, and I know I get this from British culture, and THIS is the reason why everyone thinks the US is full of idiots. Someone keeping a tally?

"Even now, there have been people in Japan using the label youge- (Western games) with a terribly discriminatory meaning," said Wada. "I'd like them to try it once. If they play it once, they'd realize how incorrect that label is."

Square-Enix CEO Yoichi Wada is frustrated with Japanese gamers' refusal to give Western-made games a chance, calling the Japanese term for the games "terribly discriminatory."

you gonna argue with this guy about his own ppl

BlackTragedy
This is more to do with comfort zones than anything. Refer back to my post about Japan's import and export taxes. They have been pretty much only exposed to their own products since post WWII.

This just in:

Silverbond has called the attitude toward JRPGs terribly discrimatory. Why don't they sell as well as FPS?

Americans are racist.

Because clearly, what one guy says is undeniable fact.

wow what happened in here every race and group of people have done some very horrible through out history i just wanted to say that

but on topic i dont think the japanes are racist they like aot of apple products and american culture i think the reason they dont like the 360 maybe is because it doesnt appeal to them and to be fair it does have its share of problems and the jrpgs on the system are not anything real good and face it nintendo and sony have been in the gaming business for 15years plus so they got more brand power over there and games that appeal to them more .

I just think your wrong in saying that the japanese people are somehow racist or bias against the 360 and i just read your other post and going by that ive heard alot of people say they dont care about japanese games or jrpgs with racial slurs in amercia but they dont represent the majority you are generalizing

ok back on topic the xbox probably didn't sell well in japan because it didn't have enough hentai games about japanese schoolgirls being violated by tentacles.

Compared to everything else, yes. It's outselling the Wii. That's pretty damn impressive.

There's no denying that FPS games are the most popular here. Is America racist? :o

Silverbond

There's a large difference in buying habits, while FPS are popular in the U.S, JRPG's still have had great sales in the U.S with numerous titles selling well over a million, in Japan it would be almost impossible to list a few FPS to ever reach one million in sales. Some JRPG's have even gone on to sale more in the U.S than Japan. Western countries for the most part are more willing to try Eastern games than the East of Western games.

maybe so, doesn't stop the DS from being a better handheld. Oh, the point about handhelds being popular in Japan and not so much everywhere else is probably why MS will never release a handheld. Even though i think they'd do a good job of it, less hardware more software.

there are things about the xbox brand that are aimed at a north american audience and aren't appealing to japanese people. They are big on efficiency, miniaturization, and durability and the xbox brand has not been synonomous with those things. They are likely xenophobic too however , which isn't the same thing as racist btw

[QUOTE="taj7575"]

Racist? No. Nintendo and Sony are both based in Japan, so they will sell in Japan.

taj7575

here in the west a consoles companies place of birth (since sony and Microsoft are both international companies now) hasn't had much effect on how well it will sell. Look at the ps2, ps1, nes.

Well MS is more popular here in NA that the ps3. Besides, MS is still new to console wars. People in Japan have been playing Nintendo, PS for a while now, so they are used to it. Thats why it's balanced in NA, because people will buy MS products, yet there are people who are used to Nintendo and sony.

Was this excuse used when the original Playstation came out and basically took the market from Nintendo and effectively killed Sega (well the PS2 killed Sega but PS1 started it's death)? I've said many times now that Japanese people while maybe not racist have some form of BIAS against US products. This goes deeper than just game consoles. But remember when the original xbox was out? It didn't sell well so everyone asked, "Why?" Japanese consumers swore that it wasn't because Microsoft was American based, they said "There's no JRPGs and the console and controller are too big." So what happens? 360 comes out, releases a ton of JRPGs for it and is SMALLER than the PS3. All problems solved right? Obviously now Japanese gamers will buy the system. . .wrong. What's their excuse now? This is one of the few times when I think the term, "Teh BiAS!" is very applicable.

I think so far this generation MS has done a much better job than Sony at trying to acquire Japanese support. If you look at the titles Sony are publishing they are all mostly targeting the West, while MS is mostly the same they have still paid mistwalker to make them several JRPG's, one of which I believe even got a anime series released about it, and have gotten games like Tales of Vasperia, Star Ocean, Last Remnant, to come out years before the other consoles, etc.. I would even argue that for the a large part of this generation the 360 was the only console with a list of noticeable JRPG's

wow no one cares. I doubt Microsoft even cares. Im assuming 90% of their focus are on North American markets, Japan is just a third wheel to Microsoft. Plus its pretty much natural for Japanese people to pick a Sony product over a Microsoft product. (you know its true)

That's because it's the only console from a foreign market. All of the others are made in Japan.

Of course, taxes also play a factor there.
