I have seen this lobbed around a few times but where is the foundation for these accusations?

I know that Halo 3 does not run true, its 640 or something like that. But I hear that the 360 does not offer true HD movies, why is that?

Are people really this clueless?

Well if DVD had enough space for a full HD movie, that kinda makes BR/HD-DVD obsolete. no?

The download movies are only 720 movies, True HD is 1080p and those movies are too large for DL. So is lossless audio.

Sure Xbox has them, they aren't really worth it for the price but they have them none the less. Unless you want to get really anal then it really just depends on what kind of TV you have.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, people that use the term "true HD" are not the sorts of people that anyone would want to have any sort of contact with in the first place.

I don't know exactly what you mean? The 360 can do full HD, its just that its default opitcal drive isn't a HD format drive. It plays DVDs and upscales them. DVDs aren't in HD.

If you get the HD-DVD drive for the 360 then you can watch movies in true HD with the drive.

I guess for Xbots 720 is good enough. Kind've like the rest of the system.

For those who don't know. Here is a chart showing the difference.

The biggest Blue box is 1080 resolution. Sorry you have to scroll over to see the whole thing.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Standard_video_res.svg

1080

You do realize that by using a term like "Xbot," you're deliberately placing yourself in a strata of fanboyism that is very close, if not indistingusihable, from the reviled "Xbots". Do you not?

Maybe, does that count people that judge their own worth by the things that they own? or how much better the things they own are than the things other people own?

If so then yes rich people, but probably not because most rich people I know are rich because they don't buy things that are a waste of time like hi def movies and games systems. They use their money to make more money not buy things that fritter away the time they could be using to make money.

The people that argue HD-DVD does not offer HD signals are the sort of people that argue VGA is high definition (that's right, it's not). These people have no idea, and have no insider knowledge. These people are naive 15 year olds that think they know best. These people are wrong.

If you dont own a 1080p t.v. .....none of this matters.

If you do own a 1080p t.v......then;

with my xbox 360 ( with out a hd-dvd add on ) i get;

1080p games ( mostly upscaled from 720p but there are some native 1080p games )

720p digital download movies from the marketplace.

with the HD-DVD add-on ;

Full 1080p hd-dvds every bit as nice or nicer than blu ray disc.

With my PS3;

most games support 720p only and look like crap when upscaled to 1080i/1080p

virtually no digital movie or tv show downloads available

full 1080p blu ray disc with extreme variety in picture quality with many,many terribly mastered blu ray movies that are a complete waste of money and a rip off.

I get much more movie use from my xbox360 set up than my ps3.

the term "true HD" is a marketing term used to make people switch over from 720p tv's to 1080p tv's. the term in itself is BS because there is no such thing as true hd. if you believe 1080p is "true HD", then what will you think when 1440p tv's come out? computer monitors can already pump out 1500p without hesitation. what do you call those resolutions if 1080p is "true HD"? any claims to "true HD" is immediate grounds for self-ownage. end of story.

That will be pretty awesome 20 years from now since "two-hour full length UHDV movie would require 23.28 terabytes of data storage." For now 1080p is the HD standard.

EmperorSupreme

not only that but they recommend a 22.2 audio setup. that would be freaking sweet but completely out of the question for apartment dwellers like my self. anyway, the next big step in home theater is 3D, not higher resolution (but they'll probably throw that in anyway.)

You know, it's amazing how every single cow now owns a huge 1080p HDTV and 7.1 surround sound system (to go along with their high-end gaming PCs) this gen. Funny how that works out, huh?

I'd be willing to bet that 99% of these people claiming "TEH TRUE HD" wouldn't be able to tell the difference between 720p vs 1080p.

1080p is 1920x1080 resolution without scanlines on a television (60 Hz vertical refresh rate or higher). Tell me how this is any different from a signal from a VGA cable outputting at 1920x1080 resolution. The signal doesn't have to be digital to output 1280x720 or higher. Earlier monitors were doing 2560x1920 over a VGA cable.

"true" hd is not 1080p hd is defined as anything above 480, which would be SD, anything above that would be HD

The 360's digital download movies play at 720p, a HD resolution, this 360 bashing is getting old and becoming more and more ignorant, I consider myself open minded with regard to the benifits of both hi-def systems, but Considering how much fun I am having with my 360, and how good xbox live is, the bashing is truely ultra ignorant fanboy bashing, which, of the 2 systems, the PS3 still has many more things going against it than the 360

A marketing tool created by..... TV manufacturers. Of which, last time I checked, Sony was one of.

First MOST all HDTVs are either 720p or 1080i. 1080P is pretty much LCD TVs (which suck) and high end DLPs and very high end plasma TVs.

Since most people are watching on a set that does 720P does it matter?

Xbox can do H264 that's ripped from BluRay or HDDVD @ 1080p. Not only can it stream that through it's optical drive but also straight off of USB storage so we're talking about capacities that far exceed single layer BluRay or HD DVD.

For me, that is so much more important than any optical drive in terms of watching video on an HD display.

The people that argue HD-DVD does not offer HD signals are the sort of people that argue VGA is high definition (that's right, it's not). These people have no idea, and have no insider knowledge. These people are naive 15 year olds that think they know best. These people are wrong.Matmoo_Wii60

Depends on what you mean by VGA. If you mean 640x480 then yeah VGA is not HD (it's pretty much progressive DVD). but if you mean VGA being the analog plug on the back of your graphics card then it can definitely do HD and beyond.
