Wrong, tests have been done that shows the PS3 using a mere 25-30 watts more than 360 pretty much uniformly (except in idle where the difference is much closer). The PS3 uses a high wattage GPU based off a PC GPU. I don't know the exact number for RSX but the Cell and RSX use 385 watts!

k umm which pictures are for which console..BigDizzOk the text that says everything is uber awesome is the PS3, the other you can figure out, after all it's the hardware that matters in me playing my awesome graphic games on my Xbox360 which is x10 better than the PS3.
XBOX360>TRASHSTATION 3.bobobobodfwofofYou are easily one of the biggest , most annoying, and most obnoxious lems on this forum. How do you figure the PS3 is trash when it's built wayyy better than the xbox 360? Only a blind fanboy couldn't see that. If I was a lem I would apply my 360 several times to your head for making lems look so bad.
All I look at is the games and 360 has better ones. I don't really care how those games come to my screen as long as they are good.IdonomeusThis has nothing to do with topic. Topic is how they are physically constructed, and has little to do with the actual games as oppose to the consoles durability.

http://forums.xbox.com/281/ShowForum.aspx No images needed. Build quality isn't even close. PS3 takes it by a mile.asmallchildThe PS3's hardware choice's aren't even geared towards gaming, so actually the 360 has better gaming hardware.

YES. GET IT 2 YOUR BRAIN. ITS NOT ENOUGH
THE COOLING STINKS. ( MAINLY THE GPU COOLING)
IN THE " PC WORLD " THERE IS NOT A SINGLE HIG END / LOW END PASSIVE VIDEOCARD THAT RUNS COOL
THEY USE MASSIVE ALUMINIUM HEATSINKS PLUS TON OF HEAT PIPES LIKE THESE AND REQUIERE REALLY GOOD AIRFLOW
YOU ARE TELLING ME THIS PASSIVE POS IS ENOUTGH FOR THE MIGTHY XENOS
machitocaliente
exactly it looks like its from a gf 7300 likes this
Tell me how the 360's tiny vga cooler is meant to work as well as this?
It has huge cooper fins all the way round with a huge heatpie joining them and a big pure copper base, no console has cooling anywhere as good as this
[QUOTE="machitocaliente"][QUOTE="rexoverbey"][QUOTE="Marka1700"]TC sounds like one of them people who would spend $1000 in a PC on performance parts, CPU, Ram, Graphics Card Ect, and spend $1500 on cooling gear.rexoverbeyExactly he is showing $50-100 aftermarket heatsinks and comparing it to a $300 console heatsink. For one the PS3 heatsink doesn't compare to any of those shown either. Not to mention the fan is on the bottom of the unit! WTF? Second the 360 GPU is clcoked throttled which you are not going to find in a PC GPU. Plus he fails to realise that the 360 gpu only uses a mere 35 watts and that includes the eDram! Find any recent PC GPU which does that.... Guess what!?! The PS3 uses a high wattage GPU based off a PC GPU. I don't know the exact number for RSX but the Cell and RSX use 385 watts! low consumption on IDLE. try LOAD. That is under load try again. The whole system is only at 200 watts.
xbox360 has two 60 milimeter exhaust fans that pull cool air across heatsink fins and out the back of console.
ps3 has crappier build quality, outdated crap gpu, and crap cpu for gaming, cell cant access xdr+ gddr3...only rsx can use gddr3 +xdr, ..plus the ps3's fan sucks, also the ps3 gpu rsx has 256 mb gddr3 located on the gpu pcb heating up gpu.

idon't know what u guys talking about, my Xbox360 inside look like this...
lol, just kidding, it's a little modding to eliminated noise
[QUOTE="Cubs360"]Wow, I think I'll get rid of my 360 now! Not!machitocalientethats not the point. but i would not buy a ps3 nor a 360 right now. ps3 is a flop. with a price drop? perhaps 360 is unreliable. if the fix it? perhaps...I'm confused. You argue that PS3's build quality is of a very high standard and yet you bemoan it's price? Like someone else posted here; you get what you pay for. Do you think price drops won't constitute a rethink of that build quality?
my pc has better cooling than both, sony has still only used aluminium for most of the cooling, but m$ has really cut it cheap on cooling, doesn't even have a heat spreader on the chips like sony and that gpu cooler looks like its off a buget sub $100 pc graphics card, but if coils are bad how come $400 pc motherboards use them?imprezawrx500
Passive my ass.
as you can see the fan sucks air over the heatsink just like the 360.
TOAO_Cyrus1
And still with that big a** fan its still silent.Actually its probably in part BECAUSE of that fan, its large, but low RPM.
With that in mind, what is actualy making all the noice in the 360?

PERHAPS ONE DAY YOU SIMPLE-MINDED CREATURES WILL BE ABLE TO APPRECIATE THE COMPLEXITY OF WHAT I HAVE DONE.

@ OP
good thread- even as a lemming it certainly hasnt surprised me that the components inside the PS3 are more expensive & of a higher quality than the X360- the price difference certainly reflect this.
But dont forget 1 important thing- the CELL throws off a lot more heat than the Xenon- therefore Sony HAD to use the best heating possible or they'd end up selling very expensive bricks.
Cooling problems has been an issue with the Xbox 360 but thats shown to be mainly down to user error- ppl covered up the vents of the console etc
MS obviously wanted to keep costs down with the X360 thats why the components are relatively cheap- but also they wanted to keep the size of the console down- that could reduce the heat dissipation if there isnt enough room inside the console. However the console does have an external PSU which obviously reduces internal heat.
