try and name a more depressing game (story wise).
So far there has not been ANY happiness at all in this game, everything revolves around death, sadness, and more death.

The guys lived for a thousand years through countless wars. What did you expect the story to be about, fairies and teddy bears and tea parties at the bottom of your garden. :|Hoobinator
The most depressing game I've ever played is Sonic Adventure 2: Battle. I almost cried when Shadow died... Then he comes back the next game. :|
Now I know that Sonic Adventure 2: Battle sucks, Shadow sucks, and the whole Sonic series sucks.
I might have to agree on this. Kaim just seems like he's drunk with sadness and pain. It looks he'll fall on the floor and die any minute, or he might kill himself. His voice is surprisingly depressing for a pretty boy. majadamus
I think the voice is what -made- kaim. Very good voice.
What about... I Want to be the Guy!
That game looks pretty depressing
And hopefully that WW1 game that's coming out can deliver on the brutality of the war like the devs are trying to make it
I actually haven't gotten this game yet (Huge RPG fan too)...All the gamers say it's awesome, and the reviewers had so many problems with it. I'm going with you guys though, I'll pick it up tomorrow.
Aren't all RPG's sad? Characters you get attached to always get killed off.
Lair?travt-downlmao. not the most depressing game, but it sure did cause a lot of grief for teh cows
Lair?travt-down
Sure is. It's full of emo dragons slitting their wrists with katanas. What makes it REALLY depressing is that they do it 'across the street' so they can get sympathy from people that they will themselves push away, and haven't the courage to go 'down the road' because for all their fire-breathing monstrousness they're just little children inside; little children who only wanted hugs from mummy dragon but never got them. The bit when Smaug induces vomiting so much that he goes unconscious really tugged at my heart strings.

Er... I did a bit, didn't I?
I thjought the storyline was good. Its what kept me playing the game, the only thing I wished for was that the characters had some sick specials like cloud did with his limit breaks, which is why I was dissappointed a little by the gameplay but as far as the story goes I thought it was perfect for the game.clintos59
yeah i agree but the ending was the saddest i have seen in a while i actually teared up

Majora's Mask says hello. Some of those side missions will seriously bring tears.
i think thats what the developers were aiming for.....great game...so far im still on disc one....17 hours so farDante2710how slow are you playing the game?
I'm 20 hours in and in the middle of disc 3.
shadow of the collosus was depressing as hell, your only companion is your horse and the setting is so dreary. great game though, before its time.
jcwkings
depressing isn't the right word to describe the mood of sotc, I'm not sure what word best describes it. The whole dreary feeling and loneliness of the game is what kept me interested and also why it has stuck with me since. The mysteriousness of the whole game is what makes it so good imo.

Was thinking of that. The only argument one could counter with is that on the surface its a relatively lively game. What I find most tragic about it is how most of the people in the land mostly ignore their imminent doom.
The Song of Healing is one of the best songs I've ever heard that describe death, in my opinion. Some of the 'healing' scenes it was used in were real depressing.

Haha, very true.
But when it comes to Lost Odyssey, a lot of the written backstories (the remembered dreams) in particular are very poignant and deep. And they aren't so much depressing as they are melancholy.
But then, immortality isn't a very happy thing. There are lots of discussions in Lost Odyssey about the torment of having to live through your friends, spouses and children dying over and over again while you live on, unable to do anything about it.
Great, great game. Very underrated.

Those aren't depressing, they are twisted. There is a difference.

Yeah, LO has some pretty depressing parts (still need to beat it), but for a guy who lived for 1000 years seen his loved ones die, have to bury his his kids, fought in countless wars, I think he wouldn't be the happiest person in the world.

I don't know, "The Zone" had a 'glow' to it, something that wasn't in City 17 or Rapture :D
