I was debating maybe looking into buying a 360, iv played it and love it, games like halo and banjo-kazooie would be my main motive, iv only owned Nintendo brand stuff, and i love my wii.a big discouraging factor about the 360,that i witnessed first hand today,is the red ring of death....how common is a death ring? and should i buy one if it drains all my fun funds?

Do you have a PS3 first of all? If not, definitely buy one because its lineup is just plain epic. If you have a PS3, then definitely get a 360, though 360's lineup and future isnt so bright.

For me at 07, I had bought a 60GB PS3 for $632. Later in the 07 summer, I sold it for a 360. A year later, I sold it for a PS3 lol. I lost $547 dollars though :(

Honestly, TC, you already like Halo and Banjo, then get a 360. RROD problems seem to be diminished in frequency. Just dont cheap out and get a used one. A PS3 is expensive, and if yer not familiar with Sony game franchises then there's no point. I'm a PS3 owner by the way, great system but there you have it. If you like 360 games, get a 360. Done.

ouch...see.thats why im so hesitant to get one.I got a wii and HAD a ps3, but i do want an 360 due to the new price tag and few extra games(I do have to pay for any kind of online gaming on it?) But 2 of my real life friends had issues with their 360s, and i was wondering if its safe to buy one now.

It's alot safer, but still at some risk. Personally if you want to get the most bang for your buck get a gaming pc.

i got one, more or less with the power of a 360 i believe(plays Fallout 3 without a hit), BUT....well i do like consoles for playing to avoid installing, bugs on installing, video cards conflicts, forced patches, OS complications(COUGH Vista), etc...However, do i have to play for the online service on a 360?or is just an extra online feature but i can play online for free the games i purchase.

You basically pay for the ability to play other people, it's not as bad as it seems because you can often find very good deals on gold memberships. (I got one for $20 before)

Well the red ring of death is still possible to get but nothing major since you can install games to your harddrive (if you do that with all games, RROD is basically extinct).

1. The 360 is very much a worthy purchase. Especially for someone who hasn't experienced Halo 3, Gears 1 and 2, Mass Effect and others.

2. All of you always say, "get a gaming PC"! I dont know about you guys, but sitting huddled at a desk 12 inches from a 21" PC monitor isn't my idea of great gaming! Plus, who really enjoys click, click, click, wa, wa, wasd, wasd, click, click, click oh and those installs!!!!!!!

both systems are amazing and at this point are very close from most perspectives, you wont go wrong with either so get 360 and spend the extra $200 on a decent club and a bottle of booze..

It is a poor console with tons of great games. I had 4 RROD's and just said forget it and got a PS3 and never looked back. I have been very happy with the PS3 and it looks like it has a much better future. Also the 360's are said to be more reliable now but that is not really confirmed because tons of people are still getting RROD's and I dont know the age of their consoles.

There is a reason why the 360 dominates in software sells. A lot of people think its worth playing. Is it worth it to you? thats a personal question.

ps3 owners have been saying this for 2 years already, and guess what everything they've said has NOT happened. For the original poster, you love the Xbox 360 and you don't own one, go buy it already, in the end you can play all the great exclusives on the Xbox 360 and also play the better looking multiplatform games on hte Xbox 360 , and in the end, you can laugh at the price tag of the ps3.

Yeah, but it cost a lot unless you have a good PC but need a new graphic card to play games. I would get a ps3 tho. (free online, better games this year, blueray)

Just keep in mind there are hidden costs such as AA battery(buy a charger to avoid this recurring fee), wireless game bridge required for wi-fi access, yearly $50 LIVE online fee(for playing games online), and you may want a Hard drive of a larger capacity than 512 mgb to save more games. I hear you can only save 5 games on the space the 360 allows you, then you have to either erase data or insert a hard disk. Try looking on newegg.com for deals on hard drives, choose the one of the size you'll need. Eventually, you may need one if you were to purchase a PS3, though if you get an 80 GB PS3, you probably won't need one for a while. You may want to wait till E3, because there's still doubts of the quality of the lineup for the rest of the year. The PS3 lineup has already been revealed as promising , so maybe PS3 has the leading future lineup. Still, the 360 has a bunch of old games that are great, so you can enjoy it for at least a year or two just on those games. A 360 isn't a bad console to get.

Get an Xbox 360 for Halo 3, you won't regret it. Two years later, and it's still been entertaining every day. One of this generation's strongest games for value. It doesn't look like PS3 has a game with this strong of value yet.

There are some games, like shooters, which aren't worth playing after they've aged for about 2-3 years. Some online communities die out after a year or two following the game's release. That certainly does not apply to single-player games, though, or games like Halo 3, who seem to have withstood quite awhile.

Disturbed_One98

the game doesn't entertain me as much as other FPS's I've played like Counter-Strike: Source, Left 4 Dead, Call of Duty 4, or Team Fortress 2. I don't know what it is about Halo 3, but I just don't find the game as fun. Therefore, everyone is different in their preference of games. I know people who think Halo 3 is the best game ever and I know people who have grown tired of it or just think it's over rated.

Also, you said it doesn't look like a PS3 game doesn't have this strong of value yet. What about Killzone 2? The multiplayer in that has a class system where you can earn perks and build up your character (influence by Call of Duty 4). That alone is an incentive to keep playing along with the fun multiplayer action (again this my opinion, but I think people who play the game for a while will agree). Along with the multiplayer you have a very good single player experience, so I think it's safe to say the is a great value. I think that people are looking at the sales of KZ2 too much and then labeling it a failure because other big games are outselling. I think this game will have legs, especially after PS3's price cut.

That's like buying a new car because you don't want to pay for a tire rotation and oil change.
