lol did i say Sony is first to do 3D? i know it's been around, BUT, since there was no mainstream support for games and such, we had to rely on third-party or other sources to play/watch in 3D. not only that, but the tech wasnt even utilized well last gen. besides, graphics last-gen didnt warrant 3D at all. seriously. even if it's Morrowmind. you mght appreciate it more if it had better effects and such. although Morrowmind's graphics (especially the vistas) were good, it won't look entertaining in 3D.

So to sumarize your response...
You recognise it was available in the past, but to you it doesn't count, because it only mattered when Sony decided to do it?
Please tell me that is not what you are saying...
Also I object to the idea that stereoscopic 3D has graphical requirements. It's as bad as the console gamers who claim PC's resolution advantages in the past are all void, because they weren't true HD graphics back then  It's unquestioning submission to console marketing propaganda that makes every decade old PC advantage they attempt to adopt sound like a revolution they started.
sorry, my bad. I skipped around too much was addressing what you said before:
'hahahha last gen, PS3 something something'
I'll get the quote.
HavocV3
sooo...what exactly is your response to that? can;t say anything, eh? dont bring last-gen here. if Sony overpriced PS2 then that's last-gen. oh wait, since you're a lem, you can't accept that it's MS who's overpricing this gen. sure, i'll shut my mouth next gen if Sony would do the same thing from last-gen, but right now, it's MS and that's all there is to it.
This has to be the biggest waste of time and money for sony. Very few people will utilize this feature.

I find it rather bad how the Playstation 3 gets 3D support before Cross-Game Chat, seems rather odd considering everyone will have the ability and probably will use one while the other only a few small sect of people will actual use.

lol no. it's because not only did devs not support it, but it was far off back then. that's like gaming in 1080p last 2001 (i did). it was very good, but since the textures were still bad, the 1080p only added resolution. the effects were the same, the details and textures were the same. it only meant less jaggies. same thing here. 3D moves with graphics. it wouldnt make sense to game on 3D with all the textures, details, and effects back then. it wouldnt look as good as games right now (and in the future) even if you can game in 16xAA.as ive said ,the devs didnt support it. so there was no software compensation for the 3D tech. meaning, just like Sony is planning, you have to patch the games in 3D. the devs have to alter some code to make the game work in 3D. it wouldnt give the same experience had you only rely on hardware. you may be able to achieve 3D, but it may be underutilized, or work worse thaan expected. at least right now, devs recognize the tech and are willing to optimize the game for it. it may mean less bugs, etc. we never know.
Unfortunately I do not have a 3D supporting TV... I think. I mean it might, but probably not, and I'm not paying for any glasses either.

History is repeating itself Sony thought everyone had an hdtv so they focused on blu-ray. Look how that turned out. Thought they would learn their lessonDoes 3D add a lot to the gaming experience?AAllxxjjnnAccording to a number of publications around CES, it does add to the experience if done right. I'm def. interested in 3D, and my next HDTV purchase will likely be 3D ready. Before that, I want to get a gaming PC though :).

I love how Lemmings are coming here and writing about Sony "ripping" people off for optional products.
Online fee anyone? Having to buy new console because of RROD and no warranty? That's Micro$oft at its best.
[QUOTE="bigblunt537"]I'm game. I'm not going out of my way to do it, but the next TV I buy will be 3D capable for sure. I've tried some demos of the tech, and it's quite cool. This has to be the biggest waste of time and money for sony. Very few people will utilize this feature.

Exactly the same as me. Well, except for the demo part. My next TV will be 3D ready, though.

A long winded yes, that's exactly what you are saying...
I have seen some elitist consolite rational in my time; but this takes the cake. So that's the way you operate huh? All PC advantages are void, because they only matter when consoles propaganda machine says they matter?
Excuse me if I don't submit to that, I'm not a PC gamer so some company can tell me when something matters.

Oh the irony
Have you forgotten how cows always whine about the 360 not coming with rechargable batteries for controllers? Or "teh wireless, teh hd dvd player"?

huh. then tell me, who even cared about 3D gaming back then? Bioware? Square-Enix? tell me. no one did. soooo...you played Morrowmind in 3D. fyi, Bethesda didnt evengive a crap about it. as ive said, it didnt matter since the dev themselves didnt even bother utilizing it. why are you putting words in my mouth? ive told my point to you many times. and since you ocme up with illogical claims, then manybe ill answer you with one. no one gave a crap about your Morrowmind being in 3D back then, not even Bethesda. nowm everyone gives a crap about it. does that make sense now?
Why can't they do a firmware update with something that we all want like cross game chat or backwards compatibility?

Stop behaving like such a drone.
It mattered because I decided it mattered, because the free market decided it mattered; and companies jumped at the opportunity to meet demand.
That is why innovation tends to start on PC while consoles attempt to take credit years later. All three consoles are equipped with PC architecture GPUs, the Wii motion controller was commissioned from a company that made motion control mice for PC. These exist on PC before consoles, the mainstream just don't hear/care about it because they wasn't spoon fed about its existence from the companies they worship.
Why do you need a companies permission before you start to care? Why does it matter to you if a company chooses to support it or not? It didn't matter Bethesda didn't wanted to support it in Morrowind, I wanted it so I went out and bought it, eDimentional provided the hardware and Nvidia provided the software.
It's amazing what you can do when you actually have freedom.

I think the argument here is that one side is bringing out stuff that works while the other does not. Sony isn't charging anyone extra for the 3D stuff mind you. And obviously not very many people will be able to utilize it at first, its just there for those that are planning to get a 3D tv anytime soon.
[QUOTE="leperphiliac"]So what typr of 3d glasses would you need?donalbaneThe $200 kind.
Nah, Sony will sell really good ones for $10 and other 3rd party companies will have them for $5. They're will also be games made where they'll be bundled in.

MS sucks where everything costs extra money and Sony is great with technology and reliability.
Urghh you guys are annoying. Stop claiming Sony is so awesome because "they created 3D gaming". They didn't. But they were the first ones this gen to do it so give them the credit for that.
Personally, I think this was a stupid idea. As people have stated before Sony can work on other features that are more wanted such as cross game chat. After all with the new 3D TV that can play video games maybe they should let them work on it instead putting so much money and time into something that only a limited amount of people can use.
If anything is a gimmick this year, its not motion but 3D. I think ill wait until we have TVs able to produce 3D without the glasses at a mass market level. Anjunaddict
Yes that will be when 3D gaming is at it's best. PS4 will be all 3D gaming.
wow i cant believe the negitivity in here
cut sony some slack they're trying to help push gaming to the next level
i for one would love to play in 3D
imagin natal in 3D

just like 4d and 120 fps, right? Why are people hating on this? Its an option for those who have the necessary equipment and want to game in 3D. Sony is not forcing everybody to go get a new tv and 3D glasses. When I make another HDtv purchase it will definetely be 3D capable. I think gaming in 3D will be pretty sweet.
Sony is bringing 3D gaming now. They delivered Bluray and now this. Awesome!!!

What I mean is that Sony took a beloved brand (Playstation) and exploited its popularity to sell a stupid format. Figuring fans would buy it anyways because they trusted the brand and so they could continue to enjoy the exclusive titles.

$4000? Really? You are either trolling or aren't a very thrifty shopper. You can buy 60in+ 3D ready sets for ~$1500.
On an entirely unrelated note: I have a bunch of nearly new equipment that is almost top of the line, PM me for low low prices ;)
