Not to throw another log on the fire of 3DS hate that has been sweeping SW, but it appears that another problem with the 3DS is becoming more apparent: apparently the materials Nintendo used for the 3DS's D-pad and buttons aren't the greatest, which is causing some rather unsightly wear-and-tear for the people whouse the handheld frequently. I understand that a system isn't going to last forever, but if it's having this problem only a few months after release, it does not speak well for the future of the handheld.

http://kotaku.com/5828584/more-nintendo-3ds-dpad-woes

The buttons at the bottom of the screen don't seem to be of particularly high quality either, and I suspect a lot of people will be complaining that they are wearing out too. I would be surprised if Nintendo did not address these quality issues eventually, but still it is another sign that the 3DS was rushed out the door before it was ready, and that Nintendo has been cutting a lot of corners to maximize profits on the hardware.

As you'll see in the comments,
a) That 3DS is a counterfeit unit
b) It is an isolated incident
c) It doesn't affect anybody playing the 3DS. I mean, I haven't seen this appear on any other outlet, so the problem can't be widespread, can it?
d) The 3DS isn't painted, it's colored plastic, so the paint can'tcome off at all.

What do you expect....??The 3DS was made from cheap materials and the reason that the 3DS rushed out the door before it was ready is the PSPVita. The PSPVita is a High Quality system....the 3DS is just a toy.

All systems are toys  And the 3DS's release date was announced even before the Vita's existence was known of.

The thing is, not everyone has played the 3DS long enough for this issue to happen. At this early on with so few games that use the D-pad a lot, only people who play lots of fighting games on the system would see this issue, if it is in fact spread to more than just a few units. If there is a widespread problem, it's not going to show up until people start playing their 3DSes more with games that use the D-pad.

Doesn't look like anyone in the comment section is having this problem :? Must be a very isolated issue.

How can the paint come off? :?
The 3DS isn't painted, it's colored plastic.

I smell something fishy here.

There's also the fact that the 3DS isn't painted at all. It's colored plastic. That 3DS unit must have been counterfeit.

Amazing, Kotaku. Simply amazing.

They've got another chance to bash the 3DS, why should they update the post? Kotaku's kind of on an agenda. They've been posting negative items about the 3DS at the drop of a hat, whereas they simply chose to ignore that news item that said that the PS Vita needs a price drop or risks failure a few days ago. They seem to WANT the 3DS to fail and get as much bad press as possible.

IF that did happen to anyone's 3DS, it would be because of lack of care. A similar thing happened with the number of cracked screens on the PSP, 'cept that was real because people kept dropping them.

To be fair the DS has a flip top design, unless the guys been leaving his 3DS open and resting huge chunks of metal on it I don't see how it could be down to lack of care, general when something wears away it's just because of people using it a lot.

/thread right there.

The thing that 3DS owners should be mad about is when the circle pad and bottom screen make marks on the top screen. Luckily if your smart and buy it new and register it, Nintendo WILL replace your unit and transfer all the data over. :D

Yeah, I looked up the issue online and it seems that other 3DS owners have sent in their 3DS because of their issue and got it back completely resolved. :) My screen's PERMANENTLY scratched and I could send it in for "repair." Just gotta go through the LONG process of sending it in (but Nintendo's really good on sending the unit back quickly ;) )

If there are already functional counterfeit 3DSes out there, then Nintendo has a much bigger problem to worry about.

So...

People don't play the 3DS "Lol, what a failure bla, bla, bla"

People play a lot the 3DS "Lol, what a failure, bla, bla, bla"

I think that i liked more when the haters tried to compare it with the Virtual Boy, it was kind of funny, now its just getting sad.

As you'll see in the comments,
a) That 3DS is a counterfeit unit
b) It is an isolated incident
c) It doesn't affect anybody playing the 3DS. I mean, I haven't seen this appear on any other outlet, so the problem can't be widespread, can it?
d) The 3DS isn't painted, it's colored plastic, so the paint can'tcome off at all.

and ofcourse like clockwork, the OP will ignore any valid arguments and continue to post moronic threads like this

*shrugs* well I guess it is system wars! Aside from the price I got the 3ds for, its (current) lack of many decent titles, and 2 vertical marks on my top screen from closing over the bottom screen, I have had no problems with, and am very happy with my 3DS :)

I actually have two vertical marks on the upper screen as well, but I'm able to wipe them off with a cloth.

If there are already functional counterfeit 3DSes out there, then Nintendo has a much bigger problem to worry about.

Timstuff

Because counterfeiting ruined so many other handhelds, eh?

Just checked... as am I! haha, well then theres no problem with that! I'm sure after a while it may scuff or scratch nthe screen if one carelessly closes the system
