360's got the GOTY 2006 gears of war
the wii has got the AAA exclusive, killer app classic wario ware
Â
the PS3 has got.....oblivion? no thats on the 360 already so that doesn't count as a killer app....so i guess the PS3 has absolutely nothing
ouch...looks like the topic creator's spot on with this one
JB730
Wow. OK so Gears is GOTY 2006 and we all know Gears is a killer app. But if you meant that 360's only killer app is Gears then you perhaps forgot it had to wait a year
[QUOTE="Godslay"][QUOTE="Sully28"]lol you do realize the 360 didnt have a killer game untill gears right?
Â
TrueReligion_
What about Oblivion, GRAW, Fight Night Round 3, or Geometry Wars ?
None of those games are exclusive, so they cannot be considered a killer-app.Â
They can't be considered a killer app it is not exclusive? Plus GR:AW was a different version than PC basically making it exclusive. Even a different development team made both.
[QUOTE="PS3_3DO"][QUOTE="agentfred"][QUOTE="PS3_3DO"]I beg to differ. GRAW was a killer app.
Â
psychic_zebra
Technically It was multiplat.
Â
The PC version was different and the other older console versions shouldn't even be counted.
Â
Why not? The games are ports. It doesn't matter if they're on older consoles or not. Going by your logic, does that mean that if Ninja Gaiden Sigma is AAA, then it will be a PS3 exclusive killer app?
Not exactly GR:AW is different on every version. They even had different developers between the versions. It's not like Ninja Gaiden where you just slap on high def textures and keep the same bosses, story, etc.
Plus if sheep are counting warioware then we are counting are AAA launch title Perfect Dark Zero. I guarantee everyone who bought a launch console bought PD0.
[QUOTE="hockeyruler12"]well its got Oblivion and Resistance
both are good games but no 'killer app'

Resistance is not killer app. it's got less than 90% at gamerankings.com

Did anyone mention WarioWare yet or was that just you ?stop grasping at straws, fanboys. the PS3 is just fine. Just because the 360 was fortunate enough to get GRAW and Oblivion doesn't put MS fanboys in a position for ownage. Seriously this is ridiculous. The PS3 will have some solid games coming in May...and Motorstorm and Resistance are excellent.Dreams-VisionsIm sry but the ps3 got oblivion . So it does have a killer app . If Graw and Oblivion count as 360 exclusives so does oblivion for the ps3 .

It's also the number one selling PS3 game which in my books makes it a Killer app.
Â
And like sheep keep saying: sales>>> games.Â
It really depends what you mean by "killer app". Do you define killer app as something that is a successful game in terms of sales? Even then, where do you draw the line? Is it relative to the console it is on? How about a highly-acclaimed yet underselling game? Or a system seller?
Obviously whether or not your arguement stands relies a lot on your definition. So please, go ahead and try to clear that up for us.

I could remove Oblivion and still make my point, so whatever.
Well, Resistance is somewhat of a killer-app. In fact it could be. So far it's sold over a million units I believe and has also sold more than any 360 launch game. Luke Smith said it on during the news segment of the 1up Yours podcast.
Other than that, it took 360 about a year to get a true killer-app in Gears. By fall PS3 will have more than one.
What killer app did the PS2 have in the first 5 months? If I remember correctly, it took over a year to get MGS2 and FFXKeyWii
And what competition did the PS2 have during its drought of games? NONE!!!! These PS2/PS3 comparisons are lame because people are still acting as if the gaming community is still on the Sony bandwagon....THAT TRAIN HAS LEFT THE STATION FOLKS!!! The industry is now on the Wii/360 hype train and Sony is eating dust in all regions which makes their system look even worse for launching without a killer app.
With all the competition this gen, none of the systems on the market have room for costly mistake and fumbles yet Sony is still fumbling around in a dillusional state as if they have a lockdown on the market (dreaming about the good ole PS1/PS2 days). While Sony is spewing hype, its rivals are letting the games speak for themselves which is killing the PS3. For all of the PS3 exclusive games that claimed "Can only be done on a PS3" none of those titles were anything that gave gamers the feeling that the PS3 was the dominate console.
So yes, it is embarassing for a console to launch late in all regions come up short on AAA titles!!!Â

Thats the problem with Sony fans, it seems as if you have your own set of rules when it comes down to your console. Resistance is no where near a killer-app, it sold well because there was nothing else decent to play on launch day. That would be like claiming Wii sports is a killer-app because it sold well (yes I know it was bundled).
For the lost gamers on this board I will give you the definition of a killer-app title:
killer-app - a game that achieves greatness that either innovates or improves greatly on existing game machanics. This title is given spectacular reviews. In turn, this exclusive title sales well and through its sales promotes the sale of the console.
No PS3 title has achieved this status as of yet......fact!

Pay attention to the topic, we are talking about killer apps, not how many titles are available. The PS3 has no killer apps available that would start a buying frenzy for the console. You got watered down ports (with the exception of Oblivion) and "ok, but not spectacular" exclusive titles.

Yeah right, i'll spend 600 dollars on a console with no games._Peoples_Champ_
PS3 had a killer app at launch with RFOM, so I dont know what u are talking about. And it sold a million copies in 5 months, faster then any xbox 360 launch game to sell a million copies. Which was Call Of Duty a third party game which didnt hit a million sold until its 10 months after launch.

How funny, where were you last year at this time when X360 had no titles?
When will people understand that a new console takes time to get killer apps.
Really didn't see anything until 4th qtr for X360 last year. That means it took almost a year to get good software for X360, why wouldn't it take that long for PS3? PS3 is nothing special.....games don't grow on trees, or maybe you haven't heard that lol.

RFOM is a killer app, and I can guarantee u this series will be a big hit for the franchise, u ask why? Because sony has never had many great fps games, so put this one in the book as one of its killer apps, and u have a great team in insomniac making the game. I look for the 2nd RFOM to be even better and just remember, it has sold a million copies in its first 5 months out, and this is with only a fanbase of 3 million people who own the system. Who knows right now RFOM could have sold 1.5 million copies now.

A. gears wasn't 4 months after luanch
B. Did you just call a collections of minigames "killer app"?
men lie, women lie, cows lie....but numbers don't lie
the numbers show that wario ware has outsold EVERY game in the entire PS3 lineup
wario ware has also outscored every PS3 exclusive to date here at gamespot
those numbers right there verify the FACT that wario ware is more of a killer app than anything the PS3 has to offer
[QUOTE="Godslay"][QUOTE="Sully28"]lol you do realize the 360 didnt have a killer game untill gears right?

What about Oblivion, GRAW, Fight Night Round 3, or Geometry Wars ?
The 360 never had a killer app until Gears. However, it did have a great lineup of games within 5 months of launch, which is different. You do realize that ps3 also has a great line-up 5 months in. Motorstorm, Resistance, Oblivion, Tekken:DR HD, Fight Night Round 3...not to mention that with BP you get God of War II and FFXII...Sounds good to me. I own both, but people who say that 360 had a better line-up five months in are ignorant.Â
What killer app did the PS2 have in the first 5 months? If I remember correctly, it took over a year to get MGS2 and FFXKeyWii
Madden sold a TON of ps2...
perhaps by your definition not a "killer app" but the thousands of casuals out there, madden was all anyone could talk about with the ps2 for quite a while....
Â
Well, to be fair the Wii doesn't have a killer app either (I would have said ZeldaTP but that was also on Cube). ganon546
once again the Wii is selling out because of wiisports. that's the killer app right there regardless if well at system wars like it of not.

paper mario Â
You can't really be serious....come on that was a joke right? Are we talking DS or Wii? Paper Mario is not going to sale anything. Specially since I believe it was supposedly created for the GameCube originally, just like Zelda.Â
A really killer app will be Mario Galaxy or Metriod.....come on Paper Mario......
Depends on what you call a killer app.
I saw wipeout on the playstation and had to get it, I saw ssx on the ps2 and had to get it. Same with oblivion on the 360 (I don't play games on my pc). for the ps and ps2 hardly anyone would call those games killer apps right now but they were for me.
Resistance is one hell of a great shooter and imo much much better than halo. Also i love Formula 1 racing and am very happy to have that for my ps3 (which is an exclusive license).

All of those games were multiplatform besides geometry wars but would you seriously consider it a system seller.Â

Â
So what? This is the PS3, not the PS2.Â
It is rare for a system to have a killer app in the first year. I think the only consoles to do this were the NES (Super Mario Bros), Sega Genesis (Sonic), N64 (Super Mario 64), and the Xbox (Halo). Berserker_2Genesis was released in 1989. Sonic came out in 1991. You're also forgetting the SNES (Super Mario World anyone?)

None of those games are exclusive, so they cannot be considered a killer-app.Â
PC vs. console isn't relevant when you are comparing PS3 to 360. So, at the time they were exclusive.
