  • Perfect Joystick Layout

The Xbox 360 controller has the perfect joystick layout. With one joystick on the upper left corner and the other in the bottom right, you just cant beat it. Compared to the dual center style joystick layout (for example a PS3 controller), it feels more natural and comfortable.

This is because it doesnt have that awkward weight offset from both of your thumbs applying pressure to the middle of the controller. In the Xbox 360 controller you hold both sides, but you also kind of hold the front and the back because the joysticks are distributed on the top and the bottom. This works out really well when you get into an intense game, like an online multiplayer match.

  • Size

Well Im going to go ahead and say it, size matters! If a controller is too small it can be very uncomfortable to people with large hands. Maybe you wouldnt be able to hit all the buttons precisely or the controller just flat-out wouldnt be comfortable to hold.

Either way the controller cant be too small or too big. The Xbox 360 controller is just the right size for comfortability and to allow you to be precise when pressing buttons.

  • Comfortability

Holding an Xbox 360 controller in your hands just feels right. It feels like an extension of your fingertips, and not like a clunky piece of plastic.

It has excellently sized handles on each side of the controller. This really allows you to hold on to the controller and not lose your grip during play.

  • Just the Right Amount of Complexity

With 4 main buttons, 2 joysticks, 2 pressure pads, 2 bumper pads, start, select, and 1 d-pad, it has just the right amount of complexity to suit almost any games needs.

From first person shooter to simulation to more casual games, the Xbox 360 controller allows for a great platform for developers to set the controls too. Now of course this is up to the developer of each individual game to actually set decent controls for the game, but this provides the proper framework for developers to work with.

  • Great Control

The Xbox 360 controller has great response. You can be very precise in the control of your character while playing. If you go left your character will actually go left.

Say all you will, but this debate has been done to death. At the end of the day it is a preference call and I still prefer the Dual Shock design.

I wish they could take all the best aspects of both and make a mega controller, but if I had to choose then Dual Shock it is.

I really enjoy the 360 controller. One thing I would like Msoft (and all controller makers) to focus on with their next iteration is rumble, where they have more ability to provide either a very sensitive or very brutal rumble.

I don't seem to be able to articulate what I want, but the gist is a more acute vibration

So I see...

opinion

opinion

opinion

moot point that applies to every standard controller since last gen, and

vague opinion

Anyways its a fine controller. As long as I don't have to use the Dpad heavily in a game then it works.

I still prefer the dpad, face buttons, stick layout and overall form factor of the DS3. All I want from the 360 pad is the concave analog tips.

Its kind of funny that this is an article on their site. Random posters here on SW make better arguments than this.

I thought it was pretty good. Not my favorite, but it good enough. Looking back on it I'd take that over the 360 pad by a small margin.

Honestly though, you'd be surprised at how many people love the Gamecube controller.

mmhmm also the 360 controller is such a joke vs kieyboard & mouse omg lol

it would be best to move everyone the keys & mice. more buttons, familiar design, standardized control schemes and hotkeys

hotkeys can be incredibly powerful. consoles dun have hotkeys. they have cold barren 4-figure buttons and archaic d-pads

I do think kb/m support should become standard for all consoles and most games on said consoles. Sometimes a controller is just going to be better though. I couldn't imagine playing most platformers and hack nd slash titles with kbm.

The option should be there though, especially considering how big of a presence shooters have on consoles. They could also start providing some proper RTS games as well.

The Saturn controller is infinitely better for fighting games, shoot 'em ups and 2D games in general. And a fighting stick is even better for fighting games & shoot 'em ups, which are amongst my favorite genres.

As more "traditional" controller designs go, I'd rather have this to be honest (although I do wish the back set of triggers were analog). I even prefer the joystick and button layout to both the Xbox 360 and PS3 controllers.

My 360 has been my sole current gen console for 95% of this gen. That being said, I still have trouble moving straight up with the left stick. I don't know if it has to do with my using a dual shock for two straight console generations or what, but it is what it is. I will say, though, that when I did get around to buying a PS3, I was amazed by how small the controller seemed to me. If you increased the size of the Dual Shock 3 by, oh, ten percent, and replaced the L2+R2 triggers with the concave triggers on the 360 controller, you'd have a winner.

No, no, no. What a load of nonsense I've just read.

The analog sticks are beyond awful. This is why I was unable to play first person shooters well. What's with the stupid positions of them and the concave surface on them which is very bad for gaming.

Everything else are great, but I still prefer the PS3 controller.

I agree with the above which is why I bought a wired Power A controller for my PS3. Nice feel. But, it doesn't have Six-Axis though. I have to switch to the standard wireless DS3 midgame just to open a gate in KZ3 or brush the guy's teeth in Heavy Rain.

power-a-mini-elite-ps3-controller_528_po

I also standardized on a wired 360 controller over any other controller design on the PC.

I agree. The triggers on my standard-issue DS3 are very cheaply made compared to the triggers of my 360 controller.

Edit: The Power A's triggers feel more robust then Sony's DS3. But, the design of the 360's triggers is simply better.

I agree with the article. The 360 controller is the greatest controller of all time. Comfortable, great sticks, great triggers etc. Of course cows in this thread are gonna say dualshock when they know it sux. Sticks are terrible, triggers are laughable, and it's designed for a 5 year old. I guess if you're 5 or a woman, then the dualshock is great for you. The 360 controller is the greatest and has become the standard for the industry. Nintendo even copied the design and I don't blame them. It's the best and developers know it, you know it, and I know it. Bu, bu, bu, but you have to use batteries! 360 sucks! Nice try cows. You can easily buy a play and charge kit for like 15 bucks or buy a pack of batteries that will last you 6 fukin months. But you cows have to bash it cause it's common knowledge that cows are poor and buying a pack of batteries will break the bank. Sad.

I agree with that actually.

I also loved the buttons layout of the gamecube.. Ikaruga was a really good example for how comfortable that controller's button layout for a game that requires fast twitchy & precise button presses.

no dude. For the kind of games I like to play nothing beats the PS3 controller for Marvel, SFIV, God of War, Yakuza, etc. The X360 controller is only good for FPS and Racing games. Face buttons and D-pad are best on Dualshock while the Xbox is just the analog sticks and the triggers. Those small acrylic face buttons and D-pad are horrible on the Xbox controller!

If you look at it objectively, the Dualshock is FACTUALLY better.

Less Deadzone.

Pressure sensitive face buttons.

Rechargeable out of the box.

Sixaxis support.

Vastly superior D-Pad.

Way more flexible in terms of compatibility for different genres.

The Dualshock wins.

People who actually prefer the dualshock must have small hands, therefore small dicks. The 360 controller is the closest thing to perfection we have, anyone who says otherwise is a pus$y
