I played COD4 for a year straight. I got more than my moneys worth. I've spent the same money on games that have lasted no more than a few days. I will happily hand over the asking price for Modern Warfare 2 on release day. I find it odd how gamers can moan about the price of this game but will pay through the nose for Virtual console and Xbox live arcade games. And will even pay crazy prices for THEMES.

You really can't complain about nothing as you've all over payed for something at one time or another. And as usual you're all blowing this way out of proportion. Modern warfare 2 will offer fantastic value for money for most people who buy it. How many other games out there will keep people playing for years at a time?. NOT MANY.

Guys activision is not the one to be blaimed because they are selling games near $100 mark here in england. The people to blaim are the st*pid console players that have been paying for DLC all the time and various other stuff that is basicly showing companies like activision how much milkage they can get from people. What did u expect? Console players have been wasting money on a 3 map packs which cost almost nothing to make for the devlopers yet people pay $10-15 dollars for them.

This is simply the next level of milkage and thanks to console players because they have allowed companies to milk them.

This is one of the reasons I never care for DLC. I just want my games to be high quality and packed full if I'm going to pay $60 up front.

I'll pay $60 for God War III (I know the campaign will probably be ~15 hours on normal, but these guys pack a lot into their games like challenges, unlockables, extra difficulties (which can be fun), hours of behind the scene making of material, and a unique experience you'll only find in the god of war series (well potentially, until dante's inferno comes out)

I'll pay $60 for Uncharted 2. We know what's coming and the campaign will be action packed, filled with great characters, interesting plot filled with twists and more. And then we get a heavily beta tested multiplayer from some of the best console developers.

I'll pay $60 FFXIII. I bet that I'll clock over 120 hours easily in this game. The FFX people are making this and I loved FFX. The music is great so far. Gameplay looks clean and action packed. It's an RPG. It will be worth it.

I won't pay $60 or more for Modern Warfare 2.

well now i have switched from probably not going to bother to not touching with a 10 foot barge pole. thatll be about 80 euro here....forget it. if other publishers intend to follow suit then itll be more games for my DS, Wii and PC and a hell of alot less of my PS3 and 360 (and they will probably all be PSN and xbox live downloadable games). and god help them if they try for an 80 euro price tag for PC, wii and DS games.....then itll be wiiware and indie PC all the way. and if they go and raise those to silly prices? well then maybe i will make my own...and sell it for 80 quid :P.

i don't get the whole buzz about this, even though i'd gladly hate on activision.

55£ = 63€ atm

it's nothing new, just the usual way the pricing has been this gen, at least here in europe (between 59,99 and 69,99).

my copy of valkyria chronicles was at 69,99€.

you can usually get it cheaper since it's the suggested retail price.

It's a rip off but unfortanately everyone is going to buy it and it's just going to encourage more developers/publishers to do the same.

So basically for every two games we buy these days it's costing us £100!

Think about all the lovely games you would like to play and then think about how much money it would or does actually cost you to play them...

Seriously...Think about it...

RRP is always higher than what they sell it for. I haven't seen any shops sell it higher than £45, which is still £5 higher than most new games. I definitely won't buy it for the higher price, I can wait.

By the time they drop the price to match that of normal games, the next COD game will be out. Oh, and every year with every new release...they're just splitting their online fanbase even further. So there's really no point buying more than one COD game (if any at all) - they're all pretty much the same anyway.

whats going on how on earth can they charge that much

VendettaRed07

Well, for starters, their fanbase is stupid. :P

Can you people please stop converting it to USD? It doesn't work like that. The cost of living is a bit higher in Europe..Yes, directly converted 54pounds is 80-something Dollar, but I doubt the price will be that high in the states. It will probably be around 55-60 dollars, which is a bit more.

The Prestige edition is selling for over double that price - 120 pounds!

Also in that link, Activision's CEO is saying that he'd like to raise prices even higher. So...yeah, from now on I'm never buying an Activision game. They'll be the death of the industry.

Why do they need so much money? The development costs shouldn't be that high. They've used the same engine as in CoD 4 and they've probably recycled half the assets as well. It's not like they've been working on it for years from the ground up.

I would have thought many sites will be doing a pre order like this, and if you ge tin efore they realise thats too cheap, thge retailer MUST sell it to you at that price...

But yeah this sucks, get lost activision nobody likes you.

And infinity ward, fond a new publisher.

Activision has confirmed that the eagerly-awaited Modern Warfare 2 will carry a hefty RRP of £54.99 - and retailers have been warned that other publishers are likely to follow suit.

cant blame them, people will buy it regardless. no matter the price, people will pay anything to play the next installment of CoD, same applies to Halo.

The only difference between CoD4 and CoD:MW2, is the name.

ORIGIN

xxThyLordxx
All good , but you just said "" Cant blame them"" ?? Really now , who to blame then?? Gamers that want this game badly ? , analysts that saying MW2 will sell like crazy or sites that saying the best for the game??.... So will you say ""Cant blame them "" for people that found this too expensive , and go to piracy methods? Because a healthy company that made 1billion++ last year simply trying to make even more this year , then they claiming "" we love our fans , thank you for your support"" Pff .. They srack a lot...

Almost everywhere seems to be selling it for £44.99, which isn't too bad, but the hardened edition is selling for a whopping £69.99!

I was up for buying the hardened one, but after seeing the price, then screw that. I think I'm just gonna rent this game. I doubt I'll be playing it online that much anyway.

What Activision needs to know is whether the game will sell or not. If enough people depict their strong distaste towards the price and don't buy the game, Activision will think twice next time before they talk crap.

Seems like not everyone has caught up on how much the £ has fallen against the €. There's a reason some people joke that the UK is like a 3rd world shopping paradise for video games for the rest of the EU.

MW2 is pushing no boundaries so there is no way I'm paying £55 for it! No game should cost that much, game companies make hundreds of millions of profit with games costing £40 and thats how they should stay. Activision are just getting greedy and their games and all that great anyway to warrant such high prices.
