7th and 8th gen the worst gens?

So am I the only one who thinks that both 7th and 8th gen have been the worst in gaming?

Sure the 360 was awesome and revolutionized modern day shooters and the Wii helped bring motion control to the living room...........before it died quickly but yeah.

Does anyone else think that amazing games from every genre just sorta died down and became practically unheard of?

7th gen was by far the best one yet.

8th is slow and a little boring so far but is gradually picking up.

Console gaming gets better with each generation.

I can pretty much just cosign this.

I just can't agree with this, ALOT of genres I loved either died or become awful.

The lack of 3D platformers was just terrible, JRPGs have gotten worse and games became so hand holdy it was just not fun.

8th is only a bit over 2 years old, a little early given how long this gen will probably be.

The 7th? absolutely not. I wouldn't put it over Gen 6 and 4, but the other gens it matches up favorably if not out right being better. On average there were more good games in gen 7. The great stuff might have been in shorter supply, but that is what it is.

But sure the 8th gen has been pretty bad on anything that isn't a PC. The consoles have 2 great games to show between the 3 of them: Bayonetta 2 and Bloodborne.

7th and 8th gen were terrible due to the PlayStation 3 and 4.

The Witcher 3, Bloodborne, Sunset Overdrive, Titanfall, All of Nintendo's games on Wii U are really helping 8th gen to become another awesome gen

Gen 8 will probably have it's great and bad games. Besides, Star Citizen is this "gen" (well pc, you get my point) yup, massive fanboy

7th and 4th gens are tied as my favourite one. Apart from this new annoying wave of internet kids who hate on everything, this generation has been pretty good so far!

Yes you are the only want that believes specially 7 th generation has been the worst, 8 th generation is barely starting, so it's too early to say it's worse.

I agree. The gen 'just started' and there are already hundreds of games available. Bloodborn and The Witcher 3 just came out, Batman AK is around the corner...just to name a few very big names!

Gen 7 was definitely mediocre compared to 4-6.

Good thing there are a lot more genres in gaming than just JRPG's, 3D platformers, and whatever. Most genres did great last gen.

There was a lot of great stuff from Gen 7, but it felt like a lot of baby steps were taken in achieving HD fidelity. The increase in budgets and decrease in Japanese production made it feel a lot more homogenized than earlier generations for sure.

Gen 7 was great. Nearly as good as gen 6. No where near gen 4 though.

For me its the same except i did not get to enjoy the 4th gen

Too early to talk about 8th gen but in my opinion 7th gen was the worst. Post 2007, things became less and less cool every year. 5th and 6th gens were the best and golden era of games.

No, OP is just nostalgic.

You were probably a young teen during the PS2 (or N64) era, and you approached games with a really impressionable mind. But now that you're older, you've grown out of gaming a bit, games don't make you feel the way they used to and you're judging them with a more mature critical mind.

The 7th gen and probably 8th gen (too early to judge) is just as good if not better than past generations. Storytelling has evolved. Hardware has gotten better. Online play is much better. There's a wider selection than ever. Indie devs are at a better position than ever. You just grew out of it.

Don't put the 7th gen in the same boat as this gen.

The nostalgia boat isn't very discriminating.

The fact is that the people who are age 6-15 right now will look back and say the 8th gen was their favorite gen.

My 37 year old cousin probably dropped his haw when he saw a cutscene in Final Fantasy IV that we would roll our eyes at now.

You cant beat the 16 bit era IMO. Every gen has gotten worse since then. PSX was a high point but still not as good as the 16 bit era.

Every generation has great games, but if you didn't grow up with the SNES and you're not a hipster, the 4th gen wasn't necessarily better than future gens.

Nostalgia has nothing to do with it. The games were more fun back then, the idea of consoles was to bring arcade gaming into the living room and that has never been done better than during the 16 bit era before the coin op arcades started to die off. Consoles since then have slowly drifted into wannabe PCs that rely on franchises and genres that originated and were made popular on PC and well, I have a PC for that kind of thing.

But there's still plenty of those arcade games if you look in the indie market.

It's hypocritical all of these gamers saying all that exists is games like Assassin's Creed. It's like a girl saying she can't find a good non-superficial man, but she's only going to nightclubs - and nowhere else.

Downloaded most of my favorite arcade games ( those I was able to find ), the games I played and enjoyed when I was a teenager. Anybody knows if "Joust" is available for download ?

@drekula2: Sure there is, they just arent as good, that could be my age talking but if it was purely nostalgia then id be saying Target Renegade > Streets of Rage because most of my gaming youth was spent on Atari and Micro-Computers.

7th gen = dota 2/league and those two games have replaced 90% of my video game library. 8th gen is pretty boring tho. no idea how some of you console gamers aren't bored yet

6th gen was my favorite. Halo: Combat Evolved, Morrowind, Far Cry, Vice City, Wind Waker, Ninja Gaiden, Pikmin, Warcraft 3, Civ 4, F.E.A.R., Half Life 2, Max Payne, Resident Evil 4, Knights of the Old Republic, Thousand Year Door, etc.
