The difference is marginal, quit trying to make it look so great. Blu ray is so marginal, it's a major joke...The quality difference is like the difference between VHS and DVD. Have you ever watche a blu-ray movie on an hdtv...i think not.
Also, what whould of happend if we had given up on dvd because VHS was selling better.
The difference is not that great. If you are comparing DVD movies on a NON HDTV to a Blu-Ray movie on a HDTV, maybe, but movies in 720P and upscaled to 1080p on HDTV's aren't hugely different from what Blu-Ray offers. Not like VHS -> DVD.I've seen them both side-by-side with friends and they all agreed with me.
The way I see it is if Blu-ray wins PS3 wins and if PS3 wins Blu-ray wins. Blu-ray is here to stay and what seemed like a crazy idea in 2006 is suddenly becoming a great idea on Sony's behalf. Eventually HD will become the standard and from the looks of it Blu-ray will be the ulimate choice for HD everything. Blu-ray benifits both movies and especially games like most top developers like Kojima have said. The only reason fan-boys dismiss Blu-ray is because they can't stand the fact that it's doing better then they expected.
Blu-ray is here to stay and is the ultimate HD entertainment. DVD's will become the past when HD goes standard and then PS3 will start selling like hot cakes.
Blu-ray is doing wonders for games development, not one developer has anything bad to say about Blu-ray so why are fan-boys saying it's a bad thing ?I guess they know more then the games developers . Sony have the lead the industry for a decade and they know what they are doing, unlike UMD Blu-ray is better then DVD in everyway and has the potential to be HUGE.
By 2010 Bluy-ray will become the standartd disc format !

It's worth a rental. I wouldn't buy it though. If you were a tmnt fan in the past then I think you'll enjoy it.

Now HD-DVD has got nothing.....I'm sure that Bill Gates is crying right now! :D Anyway!! That's a good thing!!! I want Lord of the Rings on blu-ray now!!!!!!!!!!! :)

[QUOTE="NathanDrake"]Yes, and you can try to convince me to buy a PS3 too. Because $599 just isn't that much for such a QUALITY piece of equipment.Lisen guys!! I don't think that a blu-ray movie is that expensive...I mean you can get them for $24-$37....DVD's where the same price 3-4 years ago!! Like in Sam Goody there where DVD's for $49.99 and people still got them!! If you go on amazon you can get movies for $16.99 and $19.99! And they also have a special buy one get one free!! What more do you want??? I'm sure that in a years time Blu-ay movies will go down to $19.99-$24.99!!
And you guys should check it out on a 50"+ TV!! I have a 52" and the difference is huge!!
dreDREb13
$599???? There isn't a PS3 that costs $599. The 80gig PS3 is $499 and the 40 gig is $399.You can choose wich one you want!
I believe Star Wars going to make huge impact on Blu-Ray sales once they are release.... I won't be surprise if they started to give out bundle with the PS3 :)
aka_aj03
Star Wars PS3 bundle??? Man....that will mean millions and millions of PS3 sold in a matter of 1-2months!! You have any idea how many people on this planet are Star Wars freaks?? (including me but I'm not that bad just love the movie)
How many people actually have blu ray players? Seems like a bad financial decision.meetroid8
I got one for $260 at CC. It's really not a bad financial decision. Especially for us home theater buffs like me who like to watch their movies on big screens with true surround sound.
blu ray isnt destroying hddvd like you all make it out to be

I have, and it's nothing worth spending extra to get as long as they continue to make DVD's.

Than you just don't care about movies at all!! I suppose you are even fine with pirated movies that where recorded with a camera in a theater right?

I watch Blu-ray films on HDTVs at work all day long. It's not even close to being worth the difference in price - unless you have a 1080p and 120Hz capable LCD (or a handful of select 1080p plasmas).[QUOTE="Osafune24"][QUOTE="NathanDrake"][QUOTE="DXGreat1_HGL"][QUOTE="NathanDrake"][QUOTE="Anti-Gamer"]Who cares about the format war? If the guy recording it can hold the camera still, then maybe :P
Hell, if it wasn't for fast forwarding and rewinding, I would still go with VHS. IfI didn't get it for free, I would probably still be watching Pearl Harbor onVHS instead of Blu-ray.

For now, they cause more jumpyness/lag then smoothness. Visit and cnet review or head over to avsforum and anyone will tell you the same. Give that technology another year and then bring it up.

I strongly recommend the Sony Bravia TV's for everyone. The costumization on that TV is just great and the picture quality is superb! I would recommend watching a blu-ray movie on that one. These movies worth your time: Any Pirates of the Caribbean, Ratattule, Cars, Planet Earth!!! Kingdom of Heaven, The Last Samurai! The Wild!! Check these out on a Sony Bravia with Blu-ray and you'll see!!
Or better yet....if someone is that stubburn than just stick with that outdated technology that you love!!

Hmm... Interesting - I've never seen any lag at work, and we've gotten absolutely no negative feedback from our customers... what are you a Sony employee???
Last time I checked, reguler DVD is still outselling both formats. I'm getting good enough picture quality without having to spend extra. So, what was the argument?DXGreat1_HGL
hmmm...i wonder how long DVD's have been around? oh yeah thats right, over 10 years..no wonder there still outselling man!!!
