Funny seeing console gamers complain about upgrading a pc, yet the sentiment i'm seeing is that many of them don't want this generation to last longer than the traditional 5 years.

In that time frame, all you'd have to upgrade is your graphics card halfway through. A 250$ one should do. You know, like the 250 you'd pay for multiplayer.

Maintain functionality with all game the entire generation with absolutely no upgrade or configuration change required.

Also, just to piss the TC off:

Consoles have the functionality of having exclusives higher quality than the PC sees which are able to achieve perfect 10/10 games and GOTY awards. :P checkmate!

Consoles developed the games market.

Consoles developed and evolved the controller.

Consoles evolved sports, racing, platformers, adventure games, action games, all kinds of RPGs, shooters, etc etc etc, and even modern day FPS games are designed around the controller. Goldeneye and halo were huge influences on the genre. Resident Evil set a new standard in the horror genre. Metal gear brought stealth and cinema flair. Splinter Cell. ...There's simply too much to say as there are 100s upon thousands of console games. To put it simply; it wasn't even "consoles" per say, but moreso the most profound developers of all time like Nintendo, Sega, Atari, capcom, Namco, Midway, SNK, etc. the consoles were their products to play these games.

Then you have the evolution of the controller and cart formats. Gpus are first introduced on game consoles. Portable games--that's from consoles. Touch screen games--that's from consoles.

Not saying pc had no effect, either. The platform simply pales in comparison in this area.

PC evolved and created the most popular and played franchises today, and the hardware for every future console.

My list was not refuted.

PC remains the best.

You have got to be one of the most ignorant, negative posters, this boards has seen. What do you gain out of continually doing the same thing over and over?

Why would I refute your list? Why would I argue against aspects of your list when some of it is the truth? Regardless, Consoles have had a more profound effect on games and the industry, overall. Period.

One function.....................Update itself.

It is a pain in the ass on PC that I can't join a lobby because I am not running version 4.93094322 let alone trying to find that damn update. PC sucks for this. Console Rulz.

IT'S OFFICIAL

You are a scumbag pirate on top of garbage poster, no one who has their games legal would complain about this.

What about a physical retail copy? I only have a few games from Steam. I never pirated a single game in my life so **** you for the accusation.

Find me ONE FUNCTION that a console can do better than PC.

ONE.

(DISCLAIMER: Exclusive games that boil down to preference DO NOT COUNT as a FUNCTION)

PS

Here is a function that a PC can do while consoles are FORBIDDEN to do it:

License involving mods:

I can play games from my couch better with a console than a PC.

What difference does it make? Like 99% of games activate through some steam-like service, physical copy or not, and will auto-update.

You didn't know that?

I don't have to search forums to figure out how to get a game to run properly on console.

Everyime there's a topic like this there's always a few new alts that come out of the woodwork. Consolites must get banned left and right. ( Can't imagine why )

Anyway if you have to resort to personal attacks that have nothing to do with gaming to answer the ops question then that in itself is the answer to the question. Being nothing. However there is one true answer.

Split screen. Thats it everyone. The only thing a console can do better is split screen. You shit slinging, lower then dirt consolites gotta get that through your solid heads.

I have an Xbox. And the other night my cousin and I were playing and realized... Why are we paying $50 a year along side hundreds of dollars worth of dlc and bullshit... For an inferior, inconsistent service?

Local split screen is fun. Thats it. The rest is nickle and dime trash that doesn't work nearly as well as it should for the money you spend. For the good of the gaming future... The current state of consoles gotta go. If things stay the way they are then I fear for the people fanboyishly bound to the static console.

Gaming on my living room couch is better on a console.

A dedicated game console is meant for one thing--to play games. Proper development cycles provided to developers is a function of a games console. Innovation and evolution of control input is a function of a games console. This leads to either an evolution or revolution in game design. When the boundaries of one console gets pushed too far, it warrants the next cycle. That will go over most people here though, I'm sure.

.... wut. Didn't go over my head... just grasping at straws.

Tell me how many truly unique genres there are based on the innovations of controllers? tell me how well the wii did outside of its same old franchises with controller innovation some-what intergrated... Mario Galaxy 1/2 would of been just as good with an xbox controller.... or hell mouse and keyboard.

You don't have to troubleshoot your games to get them to work.

For everyone pirating, you don't know if that file you downloaded is malicious.

@StormyJoe: Its pretty nice on my pc too. Been couch gaming for two years. I'm actually trying to convert back to desktop gaming this year to change it up. It's pretty cool I keep my console controller with my tv remotes. If I'm on my pc all I have to do is switch inputs and fire up the console.

PC exclusive games are not designed for viewing from a couch. Yes, you can play Call of Duty, but it sucks playing DOTA, StarCraft2, or WoW.

I've had a PC (and a Mac) hooked up to my TV on-and-off again for 10 years.

@StormyJoe: False. I play all of the above sitting about ten feet away from a 55" plasma with no ui problems. Maybe if your television is too small, but... UI scaling has not been a problem for me.

Whatever, dude. I currently have a mac mini connected to my 60" Aquos Quattron.

PC exclusive games' UIs are designed with the user sitting 18" from the screen in mind - as you are while staring at a monitor on a desk. Minimaps, icons, and other UI items are difficult to recognize at 10 feet away. Plus, using a keyboard on a TV tray (or whatever else you are using) sucks.

The only correct way - or at least, the far and away best - to use a PC for anything, including games, is to sit at a desk. You can sit there and say "Oh, I can do it" , "Oh, that's false", or whatever else helps you sleep at night in regards to gaming from your living room - but there aren't too many people who are going to honestly agree with you (honestly is not a prerequisite for SW).

PC gaming is for a desk, console gaming is for a couch. I prefer the couch.

Limiting the console to a specific design allows developers to adhere to such design knowing their entire install base has access to the same hardware.

For example, the Wiimote. Developers can develop for the Wii knowing that every Wii owner has a Wiimote. You can't do the same for PC.
