You probably save money in the long run when you consider how cheap you can get games for the PC, especially on digital download sales. Also, you don't have to upgrade your PC much anymore..developers aren't making very demanding games anymore..probably because most games are going on consoles as well. Most still use old game engines, I haven't upgraded anything in 3 years and run every game fine.

95% of new releases are cheaper too (ie except activsion games), no XBL, free mods vs paid DLC, steam sales, etc etc PC's are a great investment if you're a serious gamer that will buy alot of games.

Where do you live that you have to pay to use bandwidth? This is not the case in the US..not yet at least.

I have so many pc games I can't even play them all Damn you steam and you cheap prices. When I buy console games I have to be careful because the games are 60 bucks. On pc the price is right and that impulse makes me just add to cart and I have even more games. That indie game bundle was just too good to pass up.

I thought he was being sarcastic because of the $1,000 monitor comment (I got a 24" Asus 1080p HD monitor for $170) but some countries do actually have to pay for bandwidth usage and that could be a problem for steam.

Most people don't buy a ton of games anyway, so really how much money could you be saving? XBL cost money sure, but if you're into MMOS thats gonna cost you too. Also, last I checked PC gamers are always laughing at Console gamers because they were too "poor" to afford a good gaming PC, and then they act like money is an issue by saying "it's cheaper in the long run."

I think the TCs argument is "look, its more expensive up front, but if you worry about money in the long run it might even out"...

Not: you are poor, I need to save money

You can get pretty cheap console games on sale too, if you know where to look and stuff like at CAG. It may not be as good as steam sales, but still I've gotten pretty good deal on release day or a few months later after the game is out.

Igame onboth PC & PS3 (had 360 but it broke) but I don't like gaming on PC for very long, it's too isolated, i'd rather be on splitscreen with friends having more fun. Plus I don't spend alot of time around a keyboard, so i'm always finding dead spots, trying to run off and find out where the weapon selection is at the same time.

I am one of the cheapest guys around, I buy everything on sale. Steam has prices that make you buy on impulse. There are gaming bundles where you save hundreds of dollars. That is just on 1 bundle and they have quite a few. So you buy a couple bundles and you have saved enough to buy a ps3/360 and a wii. The startup cost to get into pc gaming if you don't have a pc is higher but if you plan on buying games you come out way ahead.

You end up with too many high quality games. So much so that you can't even play them all, let alone find mods. When you install the game steam even patches and updates the latest drivers for you. Also steam is the best online gaming service bar none. I game on console but I pick my games very carefully because they cost too much. The prices on console games don't really drop for awhile either.

If you buy only 1 game a month, you'd save $10/game (not including the savings on tax) buying it new on PC. Now if you buy 3 or 4 games a month ....

I'm saying, if you spend 330$ on a console, then buy like 5 games at 60$ a piece, thats still less than the 800$ PC alone, and you saved 170$... Enough to buy pleanty of good games wich are only like 30$ or less.

Most people already have a pc but it just needs a upgrade. A gpu and a stick of memory to play games is less or equal to the cost of a console. You can then play most games on high to medium settings. For example a amd 6850 cost about 180 bucks and can play most games on high to max settings. You may need a stick of memory ddr2/3 for 30 bucks. You now have a gaming pc if you have a decent cpu just like that.

Now if you build your own then you can get better parts and over clock to get even more value for your money.

Don't forget about the CPU though, my PC (stocked)cost 750$ and only has 1.80GHz, forces me to play games on terrible quality and it still lags.

How much do theese bundles cost, how many games do you get, and if you don't mind list theese "high quality" games.

Either way, you're going to get ript off if you walk into a store and buy a brand name PC..the only way to do it is to buy the parts off newegg and build it yourself or have someone else do it.

Obviously. Halo is so groundbreaking its insane. There is nothing like it on any system other than 360, and has the best graphics of all systems combined.

Really, its the best of the best, bar none.

Ouch. Lesson learned: Best Buy/HP/retailers/Alienware are the devil

Newegg + build = extremely cheap gaming machines

My 3 year old machine is a 3.2ghz (OCd) dual core, no game can stand to its power, and its really really old now. You got ripped off to a very high degree of rip-off.

Don't let it taint your perspective of the PC!

Or for Uk people try Overclockers.co.uk. Workmates just got himself a decent gaming rig shy of 600£ (thats with a OS aswell so deduct 80£ or so if not needed) which doesnt seem to want to say no to anything. Its where Ill be going to once Ive paid for important things like moving house. :~( Still its preference Ill still be playing my ps3 a hell of alot..xbox not so sure

I agree. heres some reasons for this -

If your going to buy a gaming PC, you were probably going to buy/own a home computer in the end anyway, and pc's do alot more than gaming.

Games are cheaper, its as simple as that (Steam sales *dies*)

Free online = $60 less a month (remove this point if your a ps3 or wii owner i guess)

Built in wi-fi = $60 less (I had to buy a wi fi adapter for my 360)

Many free games

No need for an hdtv (:P, who doesnt have a tv anyway? but still)

PC gaming is radically different to what it was four years ago. Hardware is extremely cheap in regards to 'bang for your buck'. Screen resolutions are ridiculously high by default. Digital distribution is beyond impressive in regard to price point, accessibility and catalogue. Then naturally you have all the other benefits, such as the basic - it does pretty much everything - computing hooray, extensive customisation and personalisation, can connect it to your home theatre or TV, plenty of additional attachments and controllers etcetera. Then of course you have the independent development boom sprouting alongside digital distribution to compliment it all. It's a good time to PC game.

Um just a note to all those people joking that PC gaming needs upgrades of 600 dollars every year and a rig that costs upwards of 2k. You might actually be supporting console users thoughts on the price of PC gaming

I don't think I've ever been able to buy as many quality games as I have been able to the past few days on Steam and various other digital outlets, all for my PC. GTA IV - $5 Crysis + Crysis Warhead + Crysis Wars - $9.99 Indie Heavy Hitters pack - $19.99 (contains great games like Audiosurf, World of Goo, etc.) BFBC2 - Gifted to me (was $6 I think) And I've been pretty conservative of these sales. :P

It's a good time to PC game.skrat_01

... and it's only getting better. But PC gaming is dying, amirite? :P

[QUOTE="blue_hazy_basic"]95% of new releases are cheaper too (ie except activsion games), no XBL, free mods vs paid DLC, steam sales, etc etc PC's are a great investment if you're a serious gamer that will buy alot of games.haberman13

But there is the bandwidth cost to download them, sorry, steam is a lie.

even so it is still cheaper when you get newish games for under $20
