Most people don't buy a ton of games anyway, so really how much money could you be saving? XBL cost money sure, but if you're into MMOS thats gonna cost you too. Also, last I checked PC gamers are always laughing at Console gamers because they were too "poor" to afford a good gaming PC, and then they act like money is an issue by saying "it's cheaper in the long run."

I am one of the cheapest guys around, I buy everything on sale. Steam has prices that make you buy on impulse. There are gaming bundles where you save hundreds of dollars. That is just on 1 bundle and they have quite a few. So you buy a couple bundles and you have saved enough to buy a ps3/360 and a wii. The startup cost to get into pc gaming if you don't have a pc is higher but if you plan on buying games you come out way ahead.
You end up with too many high quality games. So much so that you can't even play them all, let alone find mods. When you install the game steam even patches and updates the latest drivers for you. Also steam is the best online gaming service bar none. I game on console but I pick my games very carefully because they cost too much. The prices on console games don't really drop for awhile either.
I'm saying, if you spend 330$ on a console, then buy like 5 games at 60$ a piece, thats still less than the 800$ PC alone, and you saved 170$... Enough to buy pleanty of good games wich are only like 30$ or less.
Most people already have a pc but it just needs a upgrade. A gpu and a stick of memory to play games is less or equal to the cost of a console. You can then play most games on high to medium settings. For example a amd 6850 cost about 180 bucks and can play most games on high to max settings. You may need a stick of memory ddr2/3 for 30 bucks. You now have a gaming pc if you have a decent cpu just like that.
Now if you build your own then you can get better parts and over clock to get even more value for your money.
