Sony this gen reminds me of this dude:

Ah, always good to see the fanboyness strong in SW.
Yes, Kaz is most certainly coming off indifferent and holier-than-thou. But you people are stretching the reality to make some horrible points.
He isn't saying they are number one in sales, people. So all of you posts about how Sony is last in sales are pointless, at best. That is stated right up front in the start of the quote posted by the TC.
When it comes down to it, Sony, not MS, used new technologies on its now-gen console. Sony, not nintendo or MS, is going for the best all-around entertainment package. Wanna talk smack about movies? Tell me why 360 has downloable movies and a media server feature.
No other company is offering what the PS3 is out of the box. Again, question the need all you want. When it comes down to it 90% of the gaming, interested buyers out there would love 90% of what the PS3 offers. And it is only getting better.
And that's the REAL point Kaz was making. Do you really think the 360, with its PC setup, is really going to produce much more in the way of graphics, gameplay, and audio? The PS3 as reletively new architechture along with six-axis, blu-ray, Home, and the possibility of 3D. Today they announced a new photo feature for the PS3. Just another forward-thinking, free addition Sony has made to the young PS3.Tell me there isn't more promise there.

I think the majority of what they are thinking is "Man what if we hadn't had a different agenda than building a game system."In other words: "We are the number one because we don't count our competitors (who are actually beating us)"
I bet they are also number one in the handheld market... if they don't count the DS.
Or in the portable media player market,... if they don't count Apple.
Or in the TV market... if they don't count Philips, Sharp, Samsung or Panasonic.
Gotta love Sony.

Sales? Nintendo

Way to offer your own narrow and skewed interpretation of what they mean in rebuttal.
They are the industry leader because they have sold more consoles than Nintendo and MS combined. The combined sales to date of PS1, PS2 and PS3 is greater than the combined sales of NES, SNES, N64, GC, Wii, Xbox and 360 combined. THAT makes them the industry leader.
Or you want to look at sales? Okay, how about the fact that Sony has the PS2 and PS3 on the market while the competition only has one console. Oh wait, we can't look at that because the Sony haters only want to look at one small, narrow definition to feed their own irrational hatred.
Sony knows they are not the current gen market leader. They know they are not the current gen sales or profit leader. But they didn't say that. They said INDUSTRY leader. Now you can debate the merits of such a vague statement, and how much spin it entails and that would be legitimate. Instead all I see is a bunch of ignorant people desperate to find fault in every single word that Sony says but unwilling to think for more than two seconds to find legitimate criticism.

It's difficult to talk about Nintendo, because we don't look at their console as being a competitor. They're a different world, and we operate in our world - that's the kind of way I look at things. And with the Xbox - again, I can't come up with one word to fit. You need a word that describes something that lacks longevity." - Sony Computer Entertainment boss Kaz Hirai

DO you have the data to back up that ford sales claim? I doubt it, but I would be interested to see them.
I would further add that even if you are right, Ford has been losing for a number of "gens" and not for the past two years. FORD lost their good name a LONG time ago. Meanwhile, Sony is losing only so far this gen. A gen that by all indications is only just begining to warm up. While it is unlikely Sony will end up #1, it is still to early to judge the long-term success of the PS3.
I would also argue that handhelds are a completely different market. Nintendo is certainly the industry leader when it comes to handhelds. And even if the DSi somehow gets beaten by the PSP for a year or so...I would still say Nintendo is the industry leader when it comes to making handhelds.
Wii alone outselling the PS2 and PS3? Uhmmm. Wii has sold like 30 or 40 million console world wide so far I believe...PS3 has sold roughly 20 and the PS2 is at 140 or 150 million. So maybe you should get your facts straight.
FInally, I know Sony says lots of stupid things. ALL of the companies do. And I also agree it isn't hard to find fault with Sony's statement. It is stupid of them to believe that their PAST position allows them to rest on their laurels and do nothing. But it is equally stupid for people to jump on the "industry leader" comment and yet intentionally ignore the "PS family" (IN know, I hate that term too) which I would say includes PS3 and PS2 as they both remain on the market and on store shelves.
120fps was stupid...dual 1080 was never put into the final build of the console, so if you are still waiting you should keep yourself better informed...and 4d refers to time affecting gameplay which has been done for a while.
Well put lol. Sony are not the 'current' market leaders no matter how the cows or their execs try and spin it! DAZZER7

With all due respect what does the PS1/PS2 have to do with today's next gen fight (which is why Sony is leaning on this type of messaging now btw)? This is the same exact play that Nintendo used after their successful NES/SNES run...going into N64. Except it wasn't enough. I feel it won't be enough for Sony either. You get soft at the top...especially when your agenda wasn't clearly to build the best next generation GAME console to start.
120fps was stupid...dual 1080 was never put into the final build of the console, so if you are still waiting you should keep yourself better informed...and 4d refers to time affecting gameplay which has been done for a while.
i was joking when i said i was waiting for those 'features'... thought it was obvious
What he says about the wii is true.
But his argument about the 360 makes no sense, because the PS3 isn't doing so well and the 360 isn't just a passing annoyance.
The Wii demographics are light years different from the PS3 demographics that Sony aims for and the 360 has a penchant for breaking down.
You guys really love to nitpick Hirai donch'ya?

their demographics are different, but they are all in the same industry... the videogame industry.
