Admit it!, There is not a RPG game on any console/PC that will beat Witcher 3 anytime soon

Before Witcher 3, I played games just out of boredom. I had trouble playing games as I found most stories cliche, boring, or something else. I would also revert to some online game like BF, LOL, Dota, Smite..etc

After I played Witcher 3, I got to say; the game ignited the fire in my heart for single player games again. Yet, there is this disappointment. I can't seem to find a game that close to it in story telling, combat, exploration, open world. They always lack a characteristic that tends to bog it down

I hope there is. You see, as a fan of the medium and the genre, I like to see the envelope always being pushed, instead of just being content with what I have. The Witcher 3 is a great game that I loved, but if that is the peak of what RPGs can achieve, then I should just give up on the genre.

I had the same problem, so I just went back to playing action games. We're probably not going to get an rpg that good again until Cyberpunk 2077.

I stopped giving a damn after I read "I played games just out of boredom", honestly if you do that while playing video games I suggest you do something else with your free time like yoga, horse shoes or golf is pretty hardcore from what I hear.

I rather play STALKER: Call of Pripyat.

I mean TW3 was okay considering I'm not fond of swords or magic in general. The 3rd person perspective doesn't help either.

I like the idea of The Witcher 3, but haven't had motivation to finish it and I have had the game since launch. The combat is boring and bad. If I ever finish it the story/writing will be the only reason. That is top notch.

People say The Witcher 3 is not padded like other games, but it is absolutely full of filler content all over the map.

It barely even classifies as a RPG. It's more of an action/adventure game with RPG elements. Tyranny just released not too long ago and it has far better role-playing.

It is so bloodly light on the RPG elements, some refuse to even call it an RPG. And the fact that the game is supposedly such a dismal RPG AND Action game which makes me not even want to touch it.

@Juub1990: Fallout 4's exploration is arguably better in that the game is literally about exploring that and nothing else- Fallout 4 is as good as it is on the basis of only the open world and nothing else.

@Juub1990: there is no exploration. You just go from waypoint to waypoint following missions. The actual environments are pretty barren and boring. The open world is huge but so what? It's a chore to traverse and it's big for the sake of being big.

@mems_1224: Nevermind the forests, caves, ruins, castles, villages, wildlife, random npc's, treasures etc. The open world has a lot of padding but it's not barren.

As far as modern RPG's go I'd take Fallout Vegas over that shit any day. Come to think of it, any Obsidian game, even Alpha Protocol.

@Juub1990: it looks nice but to what end? It's window dressing, you're meant to look not touch. The treasures in that game are a God damn joke and gigantic waste of time other than Witcher gear schematics, which are missions.

Agree... Witcher 3 is definitely my fav game this gen. And I can't see anything beating it until maybe Cyberpunk. Or maybe Mass Effect Andromeda... but I doubt it.

Nothing can match Tw3 for a very long time, all expansions are also amazing. The game blew away and continues to blow away all competition.

It triggers me that no one cares about Nioh on the forum. I feel left out and rejected from the community.

That's too bad because TW3 was not good. For you male power fantasy folks, I can see why you had a good time. But for anyone else with any sort of seasoned gaming tastes, TW3 was as handholding and paint by numbers as you can get. The Witcher Sense is as lazy as it gets. It puts survival instincts and whatever Uncharteds thing is called to shame.

Horizon: Zero Dawn will not only be a better RPG, but the best WRPG ever created for the simple fact that it has the best combat and game play in any WRPG created thus far. It will also be technically better than TW3 and some of the staff from TW3 are working on it so they will have better ideas compared to TW3.

Well...I bought the Wither 3 and I didn't even care to explore more than 5 hours the gameplay is so trash and the story isn't anything special. Bloodbore was already a better game IMO, FFXV is a better game now and Nioh will be a much better game when it releases...

And all those are console RPGs and represent the recent past/present and future, so I gotta say I disagree. Everyone is hooked on open world shit, but open world doesn't mean shit if you loose interest only after a couple hours of playing the game.

People who like The Witcher 3 are people who also like mindless action games with little substance like GTA (and I know a lot of people like those games) but some of us just don't find those games entertaining and I am one that was not impressed. If it makes anyone happy UC4 didn't flip my flap jacks either, not that either are bad games...they just don't have the qualities that pique my interest.

Nioh is the next upcoming RPG that has my attention and even if it has a bad story it will still be 3x the game The Witcher 3 was just going by the gameplay from the demo.

Correct. It wasn't my GOTY. Both games have 92 aggregate on Metacritic so it's not like there was a huge gap in perceived quality. The Witcher 3 just has way more casual appeal hence more awards.

lol don't worry it's not the best and there are already much better than are currently released and much better on the way early 2017 that will be released.

I am sure for a certain audience TW3 is the best thing since sliced bread but it's not going to be for everybody even people like you and me who gave the game a chance.

If you want a great game the best game play of any RPG this gen Nioh will fill that bill. It may not 'look' like that from videos but playing the game will open your eyes...lol lets just say i put about 5x the amount of time in the Nioh DEMO than I did on the full release of The Witcher 3 and had 10x the fun.

In terms of story, it's better than other modern RPGs, but not quite up there with the top-tier stories of classic RPGs (or visual novels, or adventure games).

In terms of exploration, it's about on-par with other top-tier modern RPGs in that department.

In terms of combat, it's sub-par compared to other top-tier modern RPGs in that department.

As much as I love TW3 (hell I love the first two games as well), other rpgs do open world a lot better and as for story, I hope people realize that shit was a novel series back in the 1990s which the novels actually did the story A LOT better than the games.

Hahaha........no. I can understand if someone says Bloodborne or Divinity: Original Sin II, but skyrim. Just no, skyrim is a mediocre game with a very poor writing, very poor gameplay and very poor graphics.

Good game, but overrated. The open world was quite pointless, served no purpose apart from question marks and other tedious crap. Tons of better rpgs out there.

If you loved witcher 3 , you'll may enjoy these games too :

1- Vampire the masquerade bloodlines ( the only game that is close to Witcher 3 in terms of mission design and storytelling , the only problem is that it's not optimized but can be fixed with its unofficial patch/mods)

2- Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

3- FFXV (I was watching TB's Podcast , jesse said the game is stupid but it's so fun and there's a rumor that Square Einx made its team to play witcher 3 before designing FFXV)

4- Deus Ex: Human Revolution

5- Divinity original sin extended edition (if you care about gameplay as much as story , this is your game , no radiant mission , no filler , amazing puzzles and great combat mechanics)

..... there's till many good games out there that you need to try , don't give up ;)
