For the people noticing the Cinematic Trailer in the corner, yes, the image is from the trailer coming up on the 15th, but that particular screenshot is said to be an in-game.
Just a few things that are obvious yet many people can't see(for some reason completely beyond me)....
This is a cinematic.
In-Game Cinematic.
On the scene there is an ton of Film Grain Effect applied. To make it more cinematic.
That is the reason why "it isn't as detailed as other games" as some have said. Not because the detail isn't there but because they have an huge amount of film grain effect applied over top.
Then, there is the Depth of Field which makes sense for a cinematic or game in motion but looks bad in a screenshot. And it has a ton of Depth of Field effect...
Then there is the glare.
Honestly, judging by this screenshot, and knowing what effects are on it, Alan Wake may very well end up being the best game graphically.
[QUOTE="killerfist"]why bring the PC into the discussion! it doesn't count![QUOTE="Espada12"]Project offset is the only other game that looks like it's going to take that throne from Crysis. RE5 looks good but not crysis good :pbstarter29
Just so you guys know, Alan Wake is also a Vista-Only PC title. So Hermits need not take offense to the jaw-dropping jacket.
dude are seriously hyping a game off of a jacket if so **** it dosent even look that good. snakes tight body suit looked better then that
Comparison of the past screenshot and current.

Notice the massive improvement? If the rest of the game has improved that much... Jesus.
Also, notice the massive amount of film grain? Stop saying it is blurry when those are purposely added effects for cinematic purposes.
[QUOTE="bstarter29"]
JUST look at that jacket! Its detail is cry-worthy! Everything is just beautiful. Character models, environments, THE JACKET! Just astounding.
Rhubarb9
you can tell?
Because to me the glare and film grain make it impossible to actually tell anything about the face except that it has a lot of polygons and the hair is well modeled.
Is that Half-Life 2??!!mavven
Alan Wake from 3 years ago(2005 screenshot)
Here is a comparison of the character model from 2005 and the current character model(it says 2006 on it, but it is from the 2005 proof of concept demo)
http://www.pcgames.de/screenshots/original/2008/10/alanwakevergleich2.jpg
As you can see, new model is vastly improved, even including all the distortion from the Film Grain and Depth of Field.
It is safe to assume the rest of the game has improved over the prototype engine(the 2005 engine was little more than a prototype made to show their idea and what they wanted the game to look like artistically).
lol half of those pics look horrible, thread failed? i think not. the only things that really look good in crysis is the water and the trees/foilage. Indoors look like crap, and ice looks okay. Oh, and the indoors and water in alan wake are leagues better than crysis.

Im a 360 and PC fan,... sorry nothing on the 360 can compare to Crysis or Crysis Warhead. Those pics above far beat any game 360 can com eup with, just from the basic fact that it takes larger and newer hardware architecture to run it, and no trick on teh 360 GPU can make it look nicer. But this is a good thing, it will drive MS and SOny to make sure next gen beats current gen PC, so it progresses graphics further for the next generation for everyone.

notice i never mentioned anything about a 360 game, i was referring in comparison to alan wake on the pc. forget about what this thread was about? clear your head and pay attention before you give a lengthy response.

I'm not hyping AW based on the jacket (though it is beautiful). I'm one of the dedicated followers of the game. And by dedicated, I'm mean obsessed. My entire blog is all about AW.
I'm just merely hyping this new screen, and the amazing jacket. I can't wait to see the jacket in motion on the 15th!:D

Crysis looks way better than that. Those shots look like medium settings. But honestly if people would take a second and use their brain, they would understand the context and thereby the effects put on the the Alan Wake screenshot, they would see that it is honestly a serious contender for graphics king.
Everyone mentions it being "blurry".... Well no sh*t. they put Depth of Field on the scene to focus eyes on Alan Wake. This is a CINEMATIC screencap. Not a "gameplay" shot, a CINEMATIC. In-engine/in-game Cinematic at that...
The depth of field is to focus eyes on Alan Wake as well as to set the mood.
Everyone is also mentioning his face looking undetailed....
Either they are blind or they aren't looking past the Film Grain effect that is covering the entire scene. And they aren't looking past the glare that covers his whole face... They use that much Film Grain to set the mood. It creates a darker, grittier, grim scene that is both foreboding and suspenseful. Movies use it all the time to set the mood for particular scenes. The model itself is both high poly and well modeled. The hair in particular is very well modeled. You can also tell about the texturing from his facial hair, which appears to be very well done.
Almost everyone on this board fails to realize what Film Grain does.

Just for another example to show comparison

Understand now you fanboys?
Alan Wake has much less Film Grain than the example pics, but it STILL has Film Grain. It is obvious when you take a look at his face and the constant noise present within the glare and on his face. Clear sign of a Film Grain.
I think the reason Remedy went into a media blackout for 2 years was because they were too busy developing the greatest jacket of all-time.
And damn was the wait worth it!

My screenshots were on very high settings. The guy who said that Alan Wake looks better than Crysis is just plain wrong.
Looks like someone been puttin their hand in the cookie jars.Vandalvideo
Alan Wake's been in development for 5 years. So it looks like Konami took a few pointers from Remedy.

Eh.... those shots were NOT Very High. I have played Very High....
That certainly was not Very High.
As for Alan Wake looking betting than Crysis, it is debatable as of right now.
The only part of the entire screen that is both in focus and not covered in a glare + film grain is the Jacket.
And that jacket looks pretty damn good.
In terms of the actual model, I'd say the model is very well done.
Wait until the trailer comes out before you fanboys say the character model looks like crap(which several have done)...
Being unable to look past post processing effects is something that plagues this board and is honestly rather alarming when it is so obvious when those effects are applied.
The better thing to take out of the screenshot is the overall mood and atmosphere.
Everyone wants to jump on the game because Remedy has been quiet about it and it is honestly pissing me off. Look at a game for what is SHOWN not what hasn't been shown in the past.
30 guys working on a game naturally takes longer than the typical 150-200 man teams from other top tier developers.

His clothing, grooming, and overall complexion are all different. Silent Hill came out a year prior to this game.

You're telling me that the screenshots taken by me are not at the settings I claim to be, while offering no proof to refute my claim? If you have played Crysis, you will know that those are taken with very high settings and that Crysis destroys Alan Wake in graphics.

He's actually just gotten more detailed and fesh coat of paint. He does look a little more rugged though. Overall his face though is still the same (Ilkka Villi) and clothes don't appear to be TOO different. Just more fleshed out.

Oh and not to mention he looks alot more like Jeremy Sisto now.
[QUOTE="SpruceCaboose"]Alan Wake is vaporware as far as I am concerned.bstarter29
Well it is. Its been in development forever, there is very little known about it, and it certainly is not minutes away from releasing. Its like Duke Nukem Forever, but even Duke is more likely to come out first.

....
If you took those on Very High then you take absolute crap screenshot.
Because I could find better scenes within 10 seconds of loading a map up.
As far as it "destroying Alan Wake in graphics"...
How can you tell? Because the ONE SINGLE PART of the ENTIRE screenshot that is CLEARLY VISIBLE is the JACKET. And only the JACKET.
Seriously people Shut up until the trailer comes out. Because this shot is nothing more than a TEASER and a shot showing off the MOOD.
There are too many post processing effects on the shot to actually tell anything concrete about the game's graphics. The Film Grain, Glare, Depth of Field and whatever other effects they have thrown in distort his face and prevent an active critique of the detail there to even be PLAUSIBLE.
Get off your high horse and admit one thing. The game has the potential to possibly beat Crysis graphically if you look at the ONE SINGLE thing in the screenshot that is clearly visible. That jacket is extremely well modeled and extremely detailed. I would however BET money that they didn't put all the resources into the jacket. So add 2+2 together? What are you getting? Because your comments right now make me thing your suck at math and are getting 10... The answer is 4, and the overall graphics of the game must be great.
