A lot of Micheal Bay hate, yet I bet everyone here has seen at least one of his movies and enjoyed it.

Alan Wake? When I think Michael Bay game I think of something like Just Cause 2. I'd post some explosion screens but Gamespots images are down and I'm too lazy to search elsewhere.
Alan Wake trumps Heavy Rain in every meaningful way, to be sure... but I would agree that they are both raising the bar toward videogames delivering an experience traditionally found exclusively through TV and Cinema...67gt500and with all due respect to them both(I Like Heavy Rain, not sure about alan wake since I didn't play it) but they should be aiming to be good games. Or delivering an experience that fits more to that of a videogame. Not a film or a TV Show.
"Story in a game is like a story in a porn movie. It's expected to be there, but it's not that important."I can't agree more with that quote, if you want thrills go read a bookJuarN18
And why can't games have good stories? Obviously with a pron movie the main focus is going to be... well, never mind. :P But you could argue that the interactivity in video gaming merely increases the potential for storytelling.
Sure, it's much harder to tell a good tale in a game than in a movie or book because of having to weave it into gameplay, but when it works, it's amazing. See; Half Life 2, Heavy Rain, Mass Effect (one), Knights of the Old Republic, Team ICO games...
Not a single person watches robot chicken here? By far one of their bests. He's fairly terrible (IMO).

Or delivering an experience that fits more to that of a videogame. Not a film or a TV Show. Agreed... I think the reason why some game developers are trying to deliver these 'cinematic' game experiences stems from a belief in the mainstream that videogames and game consoles are still just 'toys' - that they are not a credible vehicle for delivering serious, emotionally engaging entertainment... it's almost like they have a self-imposed inferiority complex that they are trying to shake off... I agree that they should focus on making good games first and foremost, and if they can also pull off some Hollywood-caliber entertainment along the way, then gamers are just that much better off...
Those games have really good stories (except half life 2) but not all videogames show that yet (even less action games), and the story doesn't break or make a game... yetAnd why can't games have good stories? I can't disagree more. In my honest opinion, Alan Wake was the best game I've ever played and the pacing was great. The biggest complaint I have is that about halfway through Episode Five, I got to a point where I felt that combat was annoying and I wanted to get on with the story, which is both a compliment to the fantastic story and a complaint towards the repetitive combat.

Are you sure you didn't play Modern Warfare 2?

I do believe the story is crazy, and the explosions, but some of the dialogue is pretty good. But yeah that is much closer to Michael Bay then Alan Wake
