LOL, yep. PC has best res, far better then that of consoles which are not even accomplishing 1080P right now (most the time), AND it has the newly released 3 monitors in 3D. IGN had an articel saying the experience is unbelievable.
Yep, isn't that a shame? I heard some games will be sub HD to even do 3D! You guys DO realize that everything has to be rendered twice to accomplish stereoscopic 3D?[QUOTE="erglesmergle"]
So Gran Turismo 5 in 3D is only 720p???????????????????????????????

Funily enough though you dont need an expensive 3D monitor to play games in stereo 3D on PC it cost less than $1 for anaglyph 3d glasses and they work on any monitor/TV.
[QUOTE="abuabed"]I don't care because I'm not going 3D anytime soon.bobbleheadrogueme neither...not unless the 3D TV drops below the $1000 mark :P
Yeah, I kinda wanna try 3D on my PC but the prices for those monitors are hell! Our best bet is leave it for time to lessen those prices.
The PS3 isn't as powerful as I thought it was after all...
mitu123
Yeah, the entire PS3 3D 720p is a cryin' shame.
This news got me thinkin' though! The recent 2010 360 Exclusive Alan Wake was rendered in 540p, but my guess is that it would had a higher resolution on 360, but you know it was running in 9D, probably.:P
Just a guessiedoodle, but when 9D goggles are here, I'm putting on my 9D goggles (probably wrap around my whole head, being it's so advanced, lol.) and poppin' in my copy of Alan Wake just to test that puppy out. :o
Also, what's all this hubbub about HDMI 1.3a, that sounds like some crazy gizmo or perhaps HDMI is some 3D game comin' out soon. No time for me to look that up HIDM thingie now, but I reckon' it's too sophisticated anywhichway, anywho, for my personal tastes. :P
Well, take 'er easy, Partner! 8)
OR, it's the fact that PS3 only has HDMI 1.3a while HDMI 1.4 is the "Standard" for 3D. :roll:The PS3 isn't as powerful as I thought it was after all...

[QUOTE="ShadowriverUB"]No that limit its due to not having a powerfull enough GPU ( and to some extend CPU ) to be capable for 1080p with 3d mode ( most 2d games are already a 720p 30fps let alone 3d games )That limit might be not caused by CPU or even GPU, it might be bandwith limit of HDMI chipset inside PS3 :> it's HDMI 1.3 that was not made for 3D

I'll make this read so the fanboys / ingorant people on this matter can see how 3D works without flapping their gums.
OR.... you can learn what bandwidth throughput caps are and realize that in order to have 3D images, at 720p you need a 1280x1470 buffer. Which is two 720p images stacked on top of one another + 30 rows of black pixels to separate the image in the buffer. (1470-30 = 1440 then / 2 = 720)
That means...
1,881,600 pixels are rendered in that time while FULL HD is
2,073,600 pixels. Any higher resolution would be beyond what the HDMI 1.3a is capable of. It's not because the GPU / CPU can't handle it.
sony this gen loves the bait and switch so many sdks . First no rumble then we get it so we need to upgrade sony is like use your ps3 has a pc then they take away linux they say wii mote sucks then make there own and act like its a revolution . now they are only making 720p games. what happen to the 4d games at 1080p with 120fps?
on a side note 4 d is impossable for us in the 3ed demention . 4d is all time happening all at once. its like seeing your self from birth to death all at once. A bit hard to rap your head around. However in our demnetion we can only see time as it is happning now .

4D is all matter happening at once, creating a "frame" or single "moment" in time. Like a single point on a timeline... in which a timeline is 5D (getting into string theory now...)
3D? 720p? What happened to the 4D at Dual 1080 P @ 120 FPS!! /I kid I kid.Sony's official guidelines for 3D gaming on PS3 limit the displayed image to a resolution of 720p, a Sony representative confirmed at the Develop conference this week.
Even games that run natively at 1080p resolution, like Super Stardust HD, are downscaled in 3D mode to two 720p images (one for each eye), Sony's Simon Benson explained during a demo of the technology at the conference. While the PS3 is capable of displaying a 1080p 3D image -- indeed, it will support 3D Blu-Ray movies at that resolution later this year -- Benson said upping the resolution comes at the expense of the silky-smooth 60 frames per second available at 720p (Blu-Ray movies run at 24 frames per second). Benson said that a "more cinematic game" might be well-suited for the lower frame rate and higher resolution, but that Sony's current guidelines for 3D games wouldn't allow for such a setting.
The effects of this policy are probably unnoticeable to most gamers. Benson said that, in 3D, even trained computer graphics artists could barely tell the difference between the resolutions. Still, for all you pixel counters out there who obsess over "full HD 1080p," here's another bit of technical trivia for you to argue over.-----

No problem. String theory is really fun to learn and get into, and it makes a whole lot of sense. I know what bandwidth throughput caps are. Even if HDMI could handle that much bandwidth you still think a watered down 7800gtx and a 7year old designed CPU will be able to do 1080p at 3dmode?

In some cases it is possible, but the point is, the GPU/CPU isn't what is holding it back.so this means that other native 720p games will be halfed? lol dont beleive anything you hear from sony..daveg1
Yes and No, depends on preference of the game, if 720p game works in 60fps it surly work in 3D in 30fps (each eye) without quality and resolution downgrade

Your notion of "built from the ground up for 3D" is just marketing bull. The difference between the left-eye / right-eye image is calculated based on something that is already computing for things like occlusion culling and hit detection.

PC? Nvidia supports 3D. And has for a while already.I manage to play my Wii at 480p just fine, and at 720p I have no issue being right up at the screen, but that's just my crappy vision hahaha. I'm gifted though, if I take out my contacts 480p looks like 720p and nothing changes, it's just like sitting further away but it not getting any smaller :P.
I won't go 3-D for a while, when it gets cheaper, but I have no issue with them all being 720p, isn't that what most games natively are anyway?
So does that mean that when you aren't playing in 3D the resolution will still be locked at 720p?Zero5000XWell, if the game is native 1080p then it will be played in 1080p, like Super Stardust HD. It's native 1080p, but in 3D it's locked at 720p.

Having sat down in front of one of nVidia's crazy "go ultra 3D" rigs, I have to say, I want it.
My TV is capped at 720p.Senor_KamiJust like me my Sony TV is 720p native. Really with these consoles and their better games being 720p or a bit lower we probably enjoy a much better picture than if our TV's were 1080p native. Thats because of less or no upscaling needed to our TV's native rez.

PS3's Blu-Ray 3D still has dual 1080p signals. The problem is not with PS3's HDMI i.e. still has HDMI bandwidth.

is it only me or are the best ps3 and console graphical games are 720p???
unchareted2 is 720p
god of wAR 3 720P
HEAVY RAIN 720P
NINJA GAIDEN SIGMA 2 720p
even killzone 2 is 720p
they are the best looking console games imo and they are 720p.
pc-ps360
This gen most games are nativly 720p even on 360
I only know Varkiria Chronicles and Katamri Forever are 1080p, also most 2D games this gen are in 1080p
I'm not surprised that "NO" is winning this category. I mean anything that hinders the PS3 a cow just can't admit it.
