Funny.  Everyone of your points describes Age of Empires 2, which is one of my favorite games of all time.  You judge an entire genre on the games that were released almost a decade ago.

Age of Empires 2 and 3 disagree.

A zerg rush would put a smile on anyone's face. Unless you're the one getting rushed.16bitkevin
*That house crumbling from Half Life 2 episode 2 in your sig is the nicest use of physics excluding Crysis.

Personally I find the Total War series not very relistic, I certainly would not put it in the same vein as Airborne Assault, Panzer Campaigns, Harpoon III or even the Combat Mission series.

The Total War series also build up on the formula established by Shogun, released all the way back in 2000.

Company of Heroes made me like the genre. That game is so action packed and its actually fun to use tactics to defeat the enemy. I suggest you play it before you talk. And plus that was my first real RTS. I just recently got into PC gaming.

But you see the Total War formula have evolved with the use of physics (cavalry charges trampling men, pikes actually existing as a barrier), and more realistic sieges...

Last the TW series focus on pregunpowder-primitive gunpowder era so the games that youve mentioned are irrelevant...

There is NO melle strategy game equal to the TW series...

..the Total War series.
I read many people and espessially console fans posting that they dislike the RTS genre, to be frank I do too. I hate them they are dumbed down simplified to the level of a 12 years old kiddo...toys.
1. The whole green bar hitpoints system is lame at best, there is NO complexity of angle of attack, ground advantage and angle of missile attack (like shield angle etc).

2. The whole basebuilding is dumbed down and pathetic, little peasants gathering resources and turning them into humans...now that sucks. And even worst the whole system leads to build order memorising and pathetic clickfests.

3. The locked camera. The from the top view can be described as half@ssed 3d, you cant view the sky, can change camera angle from the general's POV and simply there is NO cinematic epic experience.

4. The scale of the battles is laughable, 50 guys duking it out? What is this a bar fight? And you call this a WAR? Also the scale of the buildings...how on earth did that sodlier train in those barracks if he has the same height as them?

5. NO morale, hey we are being slaughtered but we dont have fear so we stand and die...No flanking, with the aforementioned green bar hitpoint system this aint a surprise...

Since 2002 when I got M1TW I have NEVER touched a basebuilding RTS again in my life...And its no surprise that many people hate the genre it has been the same since Dune2....

I don't even know where to start.

Warcraft series, Starcraft, Command and Conquer, Medieval: Total War, Company of Heroes... just to name a few. Superb games.

In my humble opinion, the "Total War Series" is the cream of the crop of all RTS, and my favorite of all RTS.

But to say fantastic games such as Age of Empires II, Starcraft and Company of Hero's are boring is just plain wrong.  These are fantastic games and are anything but boring.

Thanks for your opinion, but opinions are like a$%#*&#, everyone has one and they usually stink.

RTS aren't boring. I love Rise of Nation, and from time to time I play Starcraft. I can't wait for World in Conflict.

Are you serious... ANOTHER thread about the SAME game. Honestly... Total Annihilation destroys the Total War series... It's my opinion, of course. These threads you always create are getting so stale, mold has grown on them.

Mold.

Warcraft? Starcraft? They are Gods among videogames.project343

But you can't deny they play the same way as every other RTS and fit TC's description exactly.

Seiously, True_gamer you need to stop with the Total War praise. Yes, it's good. I enjoy the series a lot. But are you going to try to tell me that DoW and SupCom are boring? Let's see you post this thread in the PC forum and watch you get torn apart. Oh yeah, I forgot you never go there...
