[QUOTE="Apathetic-Irony"][QUOTE="Nathan_Drake"][QUOTE="JimmyT2"][QUOTE="Nathan_Drake"][QUOTE="general_KDI"] [QUOTE="JimmyT2"]It's a bioware RPG. If you enjoyed their past games like NWN, Baldur's Gate and KOTOR then there is a good chance you will enjoy it. If not then it's still possible you could enjoy it or maybe an action type game, JRPG or other style of game would be more your cup of tea.Nathan_Drake
I wouldn't judge a game by the past of it's creator... I think it'll score high on graphics, but that's all...
Yeah, we all know how Factor 5 did with Lair...
I'm not judging the quality but the style. If you want a shooter then Mass Effect was never going to be the game for you. If you want an RPG then it probably will be the type of game you would enjoy. Bioware also has one of the best records in gaming but I won't argue the point.
I'm an FF veteran of 15 years. Still got my NES Gold Cartridge of Final Fantasy. Thing about RPGs for me, is they have to present constant tactical need. They must feel like a game of wits at all times, man-o-a-man-o, like a game of chess but with swords and magic. What Mass Effect present to me is an RPG experience that is more about the rash shoot-em up mentallity rather than anything truly strategic. I've seen what you can do with attacks by pausing the game and just kinda focusing on whatever you want to simply own them, but the enemies never seem like a challenge in such situations and still seem to base their strategy they same way an FPS enemy would. This is definetely a problem I have with this game.
I see it as the opposite. While Halo is run and gun, Mass effect is Pause, Assess (I cant spell =[ ) the situation, give commands and orders accordingly to the enemies and the situation, and then execute. Being able to pause and look around greatly increases the tactical nature of it -- and as a side effect, makes it slower pace and "boring". Do you really think that the pausing feature doesn't indeed make the game a lot more like chess?
Not when you're the only one with any sort of strategical advantage. I've heard nothing about AI flank or communication abilities to counter your ability to pause and freeze target. It just doesn't seem fair at all and also could get kinda boring after a while if it weren't balanced out by something some time in the game.
I agree, but then again, I've also seen videos where the developers get destroyed in a mission. Twice in a row. Luckly for RPGs though, story is also a big part of the game. Even if Bio drops the ball on gameplay, and it's just a mediocre experience, large customizablility and an enticing story can really make up for it.
