It's about time that we finally got a cheap desktop solution that could play games at high HD resolutions instead of Intel's JOKE graphics.

AMD A8-3850 Dirt 2 DX 9 1680x1050:

42.9 FPS.

Intel Sandy Bridge:

18.2 FPS.

AMD A8-3850 Mass Effect 2 1680x1050:

36.4 FPS.

Intel Sandy Bridge:

20.4 FPS.

So, thanks to AMD one could build a cheap gaming PC that can run games at higher HD resolutions than consoles without breaking the bank. You could easily build a desktop for couple of hundred dollars that will enable you to game at higher resolutions than consoles.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103942&Tpk=A8%203850

and A8 MB are cheap too:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138330&cm_re=FM1-_-13-138-330-_-Product

Just make sure you avoid Intel crap. Their technology is a JOKE as witnessed by the above benchmarks. I can't tell how many times I had friends and relatives call me up where they brought a new PC/Laptop with Intel crap inside with gazzillions of ram and HD space but they can't run games on it becuase it uses Intel crappy tech. Intel is actually HOLDING back PC gaming. It's just people buy into their marketing crap and unwittiingly buy crappy tech when AMD is VASTLY superiour to Intel. It's about time we have an ultra cheap desktop gaming solution that doesn't break the bank. :)

The APUs when paired with a discrete GPU are pretty neat. The next Xbox is supposedly going to use something like that. Obviously those APUs are like a year and a half away though.

Only for the CPU. AMD CPUs are more than enough to run todays games, and those coming for the next few years. Hell they should be enough to run any game until the next console generation. Anything above an i5 is excessive. Also AMD GPUs are getting better and better. Even the GTX590 runs neck and neck to the 6990

Kind of defeats the purpose of higher definition gaming though:?

Way less than that. A new controller is like $50 bucks, a good mouse is like $25.

Sorry, but I don't use any CPU's that aren't built with denimite mem-shards from the 7th dimension, and any GPU under $16,000 in price or diamond corners is not for me.

I can't play an RTS with just a mouse, I need a good keyboard too, so that's where the logic falls apart.

TC, you do know you can build a rig and paly high quality games without busting the bank at anytime... This gpu/cpu hybrid helps the folks getting lolled into buying budget rigs and still getting a quality graphic chip to play some moderate pc games. Get ready for HP, Dell, toshiba, ibuypower, cyberpower low end solutions in the 400 dollar price range.

Those monitors are designed mostly gor graphic designers and take a powerful PC to run at the native resolution. You could also go 3 monitors which is pretty cool, but also needs a powerful rig. PC gaming is as cheap or expensive as you want it to be.

True that. And his comment AMD is only good for budget games is LOL WORTHY. AMD's HD 6990 is now considered for "budget" gamers. Looks the guy doesn't know much about PC hardware if think AMD's is only good for budget gamers. As opposed to Intel whose Sandy Bridge HD 3000 is truly a JOKE.

Of course you don't. Just like console gamers don't "just" have to buy a console. HDTV's and monitor's are interchangeable. I'm gaming on my 1080P TV, and it looks great for my PC.

Yes I know that.;) But the beauty with this is as you mentioned will enable companies like HP, DELL to offer Desktop PC's at these descent price range instead of using intel's crappy, outdatd tech and flooding the entry level PC market with it.

Yes, you are correct. I think if anything the next Xbox should focus on the Desktop flavor of APU's instead of laptop APU's.

Valve/AMD/Intel are all moving towards CPU being powerful enough to current games

it will make PC gaming alot more popular if any laptop or pre built PC can play current games without a graphics card or needing any driver updates etc, making PC gaming more user friendly and console like

Nvidia is also trying to bring real gaming to tablets also. Gotta give them credit for that booming market.

But this is seriously good news, especially of manufacturers start marketing PC gaming along with these new laptops/desktops.

Nvidia's APUs won't be so useful for affordable PC gaming--at least not initially--because they are ARM rather than x86. Windows 8 runs on ARM but it may take a while before we see ARM-compatible games beyond the likes of Angry Birds.

Hahaha good one :) Sony thought they could stick 2 CELL processors into the PS3 and have it beat the 360. 2 wouldn't even be more powerful than a Wii at running games.

But pretty much everyone else thinks its good since you can get comparable performance in games with much less cost.

In price to performance ratio AMD can't be beat.=p

I actually see very little point in going Intel unless youre building a monster rig. Even then AMD has some good offerings. It may be different in the states, but going with an intel build over an AMD (Top end CPUs here) there is a difference of over a grand. Almost $1500 IIRC.

[QUOTE="i5750at4Ghz"]Thats all AMD is good for, budget gamers. Xtasy26

And what is Intel good for? Oh wait...tech that is stuck in the 1990's. LOL.

Okay, I use an AMD processor but at least I'm not so far stuck up my ass to think that AMD is better than Intel. Intel supplies better products for more price but AMD offers products that are good but not as good for a little cheaper.

I think you are. AMD products not as good? Then what do you call Intel's best tech having to resort to running BLOPS @1024x768 @ low settings so it could get "playable" framerates. That's what I call a LAUGHING stock of a tech. Intel is a MARKETING company above anything else.

I hope we're not talking about an onboard solution. That's a bad word for PC gamers.

AMD CPU's better than Intel? On what planet?

Intel>>>>>>>>>>>>>AMD processors

Nvidia >>>>>>>>>>>AMD GPUs

I can post 100's of benchmarks to back these facts.

Show me one benchmark where an amd cpu even comes close to a sandy bridge.

Isn't the Intel 2500k processor like the best gaming processor by far right now? I know it killed the best 4-core AMD cpu in benchmarks. This AMD is an APU btw, not a true cpu.
