This could be possible if Nintendo has moved away from the optical drive and HDD paradigm. They could have almost 100% more of the price of the NX invested in rendering graphics compared to the PC designs of PS4 and X1 with their mandatory installs.

The PS4 and Xbox One were weak systems when they launched and that was 2 years ago. Making a more powerful system is not going to be difficult.

I'd prefer for them to make a less powerful system and go for a lower price point.

I refuse to continually get hyped for Nintendo hardware every gen. It's been close to a decade.

I guess this means my Wii U will see earlier death than I hoped when I bought it back in 2012.

It would be shockingly stupid if it wasn't. I mean by the time it comes out, these other consoles will be 3-4 years old most likely. Of course it remains to be seen just how much more powerful, like is it more powerful than PS4 in the same way that the Wii-U is more powerful than the PS3/360? Because that would still be a joke.

I got high hopes for nintendo and they got the resources to pull this off. They need it too, otherwise they might as well not sell a console. If they try that again, then they're going to lose money, mario isn't going to keep on selling on these low tier systems.

I've always thought of Nintendo as better than the tech peddlers out there, that try to sell by "60 fps" this and "1080p" that.

In other words, I thought of them as game-centric hardware producers. It kind of saddens me to see they're joining the race.

This is what this generation of gamers are. Nothing but theoretical specs and hardware limits. Nintendo clung to the old ways about games being the purpose of gaming long enough. Sony and MS has shown us that you don't need games to sell consoles.

Gaming today is about perception and hype. Nothing more.

@locopatho: If anything PS4 has been shown to be more like a movie player that plays everyone else's stuff. Outside of a handful of exclusives, a ps4 wouldn't be any different from any generic pc that plays the same thing. Actually less so because PC can do more.

Fanboys exist for ever company, but on System Wars, Sony and Microsoft fanboys are an infestation. Nintendo comes out with a powerful system and posters go out of their way to find it in a negative light. The other two do the same and it would be all "glory be!".

Maybe core i7 ULV (2 cores/4 Threads). Who knows, maybe it performs better than 8 weak AMD console CPUs tho.

More powerfull than ps4/xbone? Possibly, i wouldnt hold my breath though. Nintendo are re-organizing and streamlining their development strategy, bringing their consoles and handhelds closer together, an attempt to fix droughts and reinvigorate consoles in Japan maybe?..

Going from all this speculation a powerful console makes no sense when signs point to them trying to lessen the gap and achieve parity between the two.

As for having hardware beyond pc, lol. Pc is the pixel pushing god compared to consoles, Sony and Ms can pretend all they want, at the moment their consoles are steaming piles of dung, with no games.

Knowing Nintendo's target audience and the price it aims for, it's almost impossible for it to rig some high end hardware in the box. I expect a moderately powerful system about 2-3tf that runs 1080/60 Mario games.

I think its kinda funny you're lashing out like this. As someone who games on PC I end up with plenty of games that are supposedly PS4 exclusive on top of so much more. Along with Xbox games, PC is already the king. According to the reports NX will even have the game issue fixed too. Imagine all those ps4 multiplats on NX along with all those great Nintendo exclusives. On top of then unifying their handheld and console teams, which means even more games. SE already announced DQ11 for NX and other devs are already chomping at the bit to get on it.

So what happens when this happens and Nintendo has all the games? PS4 hasn't done much of anything with their market share and won't do anything until Uncharted lands next year. I can't recall a sales leader who has done so little to get their lead. Sony better get the lead out.

My NX wish list is to be as powerful or more powerful than current gen consoles and Wii U backward compatibility would make it extra sweater. That would be day one purchase if these two things become true.

I am not inclined to believe this rumor. However, I do see it being more powerful than the ps4 but no where close to what the poster in the link claims.

@nintendoboy16: I often wonder just how much of this hate is real, or a shtick? Not just with Nintendo, but everyone. So many times I see people defending one company or another, and then when I check to see if they actually play games of the company they defend, more often than not, they don't.
