I'll believe it when I see it
Pretty much.....

Didn't AMD already heavily hint that they have this console agreement in the bag?
I wonder if Nintendo is using the new zen chips? If so, it could be very pricey.
I am not inclined to believe this rumor. However, I do see it being more powerful than the ps4 but no where close to what the poster in the link claims.
All they would have to do is use a much higher clocked jaguar 8 core with same gpu as PS4 and it would would be the faster console. A 2.4 or 3.2 ghz jaguar would only yield an 45-60w TDP vs 1.6ghz being around 30w.
GTX 960 is not top of the line lol.
I have it and it does 1080p well but won't be as fast the 970, nowhere near.
Who cares how powerful the consoles are?
When has a generation been won by the most powerful machine?
It's not going to be nearly as powerful as a good computer, why even worry about it?
Games are what makes a system good.
? Power is all I read about among consoles this gen.
@Big_Red_Button: If power didn't matter we would still be on the N64.
That's stupid to the other extreme. Obviously power has a factor but it isn't the most important thing in his or my opinion.
It's really something to see people's unfounded attachments to both Sony and Microsoft on System Wars.
As opposed to Nintendo's shitbricks?
Fanboys exist for ever company, but on System Wars, Sony and Microsoft fanboys are an infestation. Nintendo comes out with a powerful system and posters go out of their way to find it in a negative light. The other two do the same and it would be all "glory be!".
But Nintendo hasn't come out with a powerful system. I cant buy an NX
I'd like to think Nintendo isn't stupid enough to price themselves out of the market. They have a niche - making kiddy/cartoonish games that don't rely on graphical power. This keeps the price down, which makes them an easy choice for parents to shove under christmas trees.
@locopatho: If anything PS4 has been shown to be more like a movie player that plays everyone else's stuff. Outside of a handful of exclusives, a ps4 wouldn't be any different from any generic pc that plays the same thing. Actually less so because PC can do more.
You can cry as hard as you like though, the Nintendo systems DO NOT come with a PC attached, and they're laughable game droughts are fucking ridiculous compared to the dozens of good, great and awesome games PS4 gets all year long :)
At least Nintendo games aren't fucking broken at launch. When compared to to say EA, Bethesda, Ubisoft, Activision, and Bioware's latest offerings.

It's people like you that have ruined video games for every one else. I remember a time when people played Mario and Contra on the same damn console. Nowadays, it's just assholes whole cling to their "grafix" and their "wurld bilding herpa derp" while forgetting the game part of video games.
In other words, when the NX launches, framerate and resolution won't matter in System Wars. I mean there is seriously a user in this thread already who said "power doesn't matter, it's the games that make a console good." That has been the Nintendo slogan for 2 generations now lol.
Never change System Wars.
So what? Mario in 4K?
Awesome.
Mario cell shaded cartoony games in 4K.
Seems the only way Nintendo can compete is to compete in the middle of a current generation.
I keep forgetting that Mario games is all Nintendo makes, and all Nintendo systems get.
No, wait. I don't forget that, I don't even think that, because that is fucking stupid.
1 source isn't very compelling.
There is more than one source.
Knowing Nintendo's target audience and the price it aims for, it's almost impossible for it to rig some high end hardware in the box. I expect a moderately powerful system about 2-3tf that runs 1080/60 Mario games.
Remember N64? Remember Gamecube? Remember SNES?
Reminds me of Xbone rumors, we all know how it turned out to be, a 720p Box.
Eh, we heard speculationthat the Xbox One will be pretty powerful (similar to Wii U speculation, actually), but all confirmed spec leaks were pegging it lower than the PS4.
Wow wow wow... let's not get crazy now. I believe it will be much more powerful than the Wii U, but I doubt it will beat even a mid-range PC.
Depends- by midrange PC, do you mean PS4 and Xbox One level? Because that benchmark isn't hard to beat, really, even for the time those two systems launched, they were pretty weak.
Now they have to get rid of the stigma of Nintendo's name on the box and lower power.
There is no stigma on the Nintendo name, there is stigma on the Wii name. The Wii (and DS) branding is what they need to move away from.
They will **** it up.
Almost certainly.
Though who knows, at this point this is a desperate situation for them, a sort of do or die- we might actually see them get everything right for a change.
I'll believe it when I see it
Ya, not believing shit until I see it
The only sensible thing(s) said in the entire thread so far.

Which is why they primarily sell more to a market that doesn't PC game, which is the wide majority of console gamers, because PC's are more expensive than consoles. Also less convenient and require less leg work/management from the user the way a PC does. Regardless that fact, spin this any cute anyway you want the PS4 and the Xbox One simply get more games than the WiiU, more range in selection, more options, more quality games overall to boot. Whether or not you like 3D World or what have you more than what the PS4 got is a matter of preference, the other stuff isn't.
Also doesn't hurt the PS4 and Xbox One's chances when a lot of the content they get speaks to an older demographic, which I'm sure they were will be another excuse for or the tried and true "real mature people can play Mario" because we're going to miss the point.

Because it's a matter of I'll believe it when I see it, which is what most of the responses have been.
A: Plenty of consoles get announced as powerhouse beasts, and yeah they never deliver on that regard.
B: Nintendo hasn't had a strong console in a good while, even the Gamecube comes with the asterisk given how gimped those compact discs were compared to what devs could do on DVDs.
C: Ditto the 64, can pump that poly count, but sub 30 frames, and less space vs a CD meant that horse power advantage was mostly irrelevant.
@charizard1605: At this point....Mario is about all that interests me regarding Nintendo. Zelda might be again depending on the magnitude of magic they put in the next one.
@mr_huggles_dog: Mario being all that interests you from Nintendo is not equivalent to Mario being all that comes from Nintendo.
you mean to tell me nintendo will make a console with a CPU better than an i7 skylake (which draws around 100W on its own and cost about $350 ) and a GPU around 390/gtx980 performance (which they draw another 250-300W on their own and cost about $400)
So basically you mean to tell me nintendo and in return AMD ( which i am guessing they are proving them the APU ) made such huge advancements in technology in the space of few months that found a way to use all that power in a small box that NX will be and be able to sell it in a reasonable price to consumers ?
Yeah no . I will believe it when i see it. If Nx will launch next year it will be good if it have a gpu similar to the performance of gtx960/r9 380 significally faster than ps4 but not what you will call next gen ( that will be gtx980/r9 390x or better ). But knowing Nintendo they will probably use something in the lines of r7 370 ( which is basically a beefed up 7850 hence slightly more powerful than ps4 )
Cows and lems: the Wii U isn't powerful enough
Cows and lems: the power of the nx means nothing. It's all about that gameplay son.
Where are the numerous sources?
1 source isn't very compelling.
There is more than one source.
Wall Street Journal, other developers also reporting that the console uses state of the art chips, AMD.
@charizard1605: I didn't say that.
I was speaking from the potential interest that it will have to me personally.

Alright, fair enough

Well fine, but that's not what the title of the thread or your first post explained.
They said the same before the Wii came out.
The current gen hardware is the best it can be at the price. As lol as that is, Nintendo would be pretty stupid to release an expensive console and go up against Playstation, when they don't have the brand power any more and they haven't even sorted out their internal problems yet.
It's not just about power. It's about a culmination of things together that make a console successful.
Doubt it, Nintendo won't just release a Gamecube type system. They will try something new, gamers have moved on to XBox/Playstation, Nintendo need to appeal to casuals and Nintendo fans.
I think the NX will be a handheld/console hybrid that uses modified Android as a base, so it can capture a different market. I don't see them just releasing a standard console competing with the PS4/Xbox because it will be dead on arrival.
I think Amiibos will have a huge part to play on the new console, I think Nintendo will be looking at Children this time around as the primary buyers, so a cheap console (Android based) with Amiibo support and Nintendo first party software could do well, without directly competing with Sony/Microsoft.
Well releasing ~3 years after I def think NX will be a bit more powerful than XB1/Ps4. Anything else would be silly. However I don't think NX will crush XB1/Ps4 because no third party dev will adjust to it anyway.
Now they have to get rid of the stigma of Nintendo's name on the box and lower power.

There is absolutely a stigma on Nintendo. Their general mainstream perception is completely fucked due to reasons such as a) their market share has been dwindling to irrelevance since the very damned beginning of their home console endeavour (NES 61m. > SNES 49m. > N64 32m. > GC 21m. > WiiU 10m.); b) Nintendo's been crushed with much stronger 3rd party support ever since Playstation. The Wii is a very toxic brand for sure, but Nintendo as a whole is in a terrible shape as far as marketing and reputation goes.
Nah, it's their lifeboat out of this downward spiral to Hell they've been going in. All points suggest that they're treading carefully. Can't jump the gun just yet, but i can safely bet my soul that the NX will be vastly more succesful than the WiiU.
If this is true you can damn well believe that Assasins Creed and CoD are lining up like Nintendo is their old buddy.

Pubs go where the money is......not the slight power differences.

come at me
Cows and lems: Be like Sony and Microsoft or we will never accept what you do, Nintendo.
lol and Watch Nintendo do it and they still refuse to accept Nintendo. At least they will finally admit to the hypocrisy. This will most likely be the big thing that NX proves.

If true, Western third party devs and publishers will have to come on board, or continue to appear as xenophobic to the rest of the world.
@bunchanumbers: What are you babbling about? Not too long ago I made a thread asking which games from 2015 people have purchased. The answer was a good amount. The whole, "there are no games this gen" argument needs to stop. I've purchased at least 8 games from this year alone that are great. Maybe you need to broaden your taste.
I love how people don't believe this, as if it's somehow difficult.
The PS4 and Xbox One were weak systems when they launched and that was 2 years ago. Making a more powerful system is not going to be difficult.
I'd prefer for them to make a less powerful system and go for a lower price point.
If the alleged power of this system is what you are referring to when saying "how people don't believe this" the answer is simple. This is Nintendo which is a company that has a solid (not +) track record of making something relatively easy into a complex process. Perhaps someone finally had the memo placed on his desk and understands the console needs to compete power-wise if it wants to be a player in the market in terms of securing badly needed third party support. Along with TPS comes everything else.
As was already spoken, I'll believe it when I see it.
No no, I mean a current mid-range PC, like with a 960/380 and an i5 4XXX.
I'd like to think Nintendo isn't stupid enough to price themselves out of the market. They have a niche - making kiddy/cartoonish games that don't rely on graphical power. This keeps the price down, which makes them an easy choice for parents to shove under christmas trees.

Huh? What exactly is your point? That more adult-oriented games and cartoon games can be on the same console? Nintendo hasn't done that successfully with the Wii or WIi-U. You'd have better luck with trying to get MS or Sony to incorporate more cartoon games into their lineups. Asking gamers to pass on MGS5, Fall Out 4, and other giant gaming releases has not been a good business strategy.
What I was saying wasn't an insult. If they want to put serious money into this next console and competitively run the biggest games on the market, go for it. But it would mean straying away from their niche in the market. Why would they? In order for me to even consider looking at the next Nintendo console, it would have to be more powerful than the PS4/XBONE, and snatch up a ton of licenses so that I don't miss out on huge releases. Why wouldn't I just buy a PS4 or Xbox? There is no room for Nintendo to compete in the exact same market as the other two consoles. Their niche is to get kids hooked on Skylander toys and Splatoon.
I don't care what the specs are. I just want Nintendo to stick around in the console arena making the games I love. It would be great if they could get the 3rd party support in addition to their quality output though. That would be the ultimate machine.
I love how people don't believe this, as if it's somehow difficult.
The PS4 and Xbox One were weak systems when they launched and that was 2 years ago. Making a more powerful system is not going to be difficult.
I'd prefer for them to make a less powerful system and go for a lower price point.
I disagree with this.
Give me a $600 box with a REAL upgrade! Due to inflation $400 is not enough money for descent Hardware.
@LJS9502_basic: What's so hard to belive, the X1 and PS4 are already like 2 years old, by the time the NX comes out it they will be probably 3 or even more. If the NX doesn't dominate it, than Nintendo is actually trying to sabotage themselves.
Wow wow wow... let's not get crazy now. I believe it will be much more powerful than the Wii U, but I doubt it will beat even a mid-range PC.

Ahhh. Yeah, no way is Nintendo beating that lol.
So that when it actually comes out, it'll be sub par because if true and released today, it would cost more than a high end PC rig.
