Analyst: Xbox One Installed Base Will Equal PS4's In 2015

Recently, well known industry analyst Michael Pachter stated that PlayStation 4 will continue its lead over Xbox One in 2015 all thanks to "Phenomenal Exclusive Line-Up" and Microsoft will announce another (second) price cut for Xbox One (considering the fact that Xbox One will start selling at $399 price point after Jan 2). There is another analyst (Independent) who thinks this is not going to be the case, and he is "Billy Pidgeon".

In a recent interview to GameIndustryBiz, Billy Pidgeon stated that Sony will not maintain PlayStation 4's out of the gate lead this console cycle. In 2015, Xbox One's installed will be equal to PlayStation 4's and in the long run, both consoles will be evenly matched, neither Sony nor Microsoft will dominate.

Here are the exact words of Billy Pidgeon on PS4 vs Xbox One Battle In 2015:

"Xbox One hardware is indeed selling stronger at the end of 2014, and this should continue into 2015. This is not because Sony is slipping, but because Microsoft is catching up.

As hardware prices drop and exclusives and franchises begin to cluster on Xbox One, an ever-larger group of gamers is upgrading from Xbox 360. I don't think that Xbox One penetration will pull out far ahead of PS4, but rather that the two consoles should be evenly matched throughout the cycle.

MS needs a game to take off and be generation defining. Like how Gears of War did it for the 360. If this happens then I can see X1 sales taking off in a big way. But only if they keep the console price below the PS4.

North America it might be possible but World Wide probably never. I think it would take some amazing games from Rare to really put XB1 in a descent position to maybe over take PS4 in NA. Really doubt MS will invest in it though. A good platforming Banjo game, Rare/MS SSB wanna be, Full Jet Ski racing game based on that KSR Jet Ski mini game could really push XB1 into eating up some WII U sales. PS4 already has all sorts of Mind share thats going to be hard to get passed for the XB division.

There is evidence Microsoft isn't going to sit down and let PS4 dominate, but time will tell.

Anything can happen, I guess. If Sony keeps sitting around and doing nothing while MS makes great exclusives along with price drops/bundles I can see it happening. The PS3 caught up with the 360 by doing what I just said.

If Sony keeps pushing out flops and doesn't show what their other studios are cooking up then It could happen.

I used to love my 360 at the beginning getting games like dead rising, crackdown, gears of war, eternal sonata, lost odysey, and halo 3. But then in the last half, MS stared focusing on kinect games and milking halo and Forza, thus losing variety in the library. Sony then started getting a variety of exclusives from both first and third party so I got a PS3 and never looked back. The very same thing can happen if Sony rests on their laurels.

Analysts also said the Xbone would lead this gen pre-reveals.

What make you think sony is sitting around doing nothing.? The XBO has no games for the first 9 months of the year,last time i check a year wasn't constitute of just October,November and December there are other 9 months before those,and MS has nothing basically until september.

Sony is working on exclusives and the PS4 actually has more games coming this year than the xbox one,and that is before MS announce that it would probably had to delay some games.

Until we know exactly how many games are being released on both consoles for the whole year, you cannot 100% guarantee the PS4 has more. Microsoft may (there's that word again remember it doesn't mean will) open their store across tablets, desktops, phones and Xbox One in 2015 and this may (not will remember) equal more games on the Xbox One. Sony have told us about more games but that doesn't mean it has more.

Thankfully gaming journalists don't see it that way. They're still lagging behind, whether you want to admit it or not. That's why there was an editorial here in Gamespot about Nintendo quietly killing the Wii U. Everyone knows this. Even Nintendo themselves know this. That's why they're changing their strategy. If they've already overtaken then there would be no need for change regarding the Quality of Life platform.

I think sales between the 2 consoles will be close with PS4 getting the edge by 5-10 million by gen end.

Well, in my opinion Sony has done little to stop the Xbox from gaining momentum. According to the Sony fans on here, they say that Sony has many "world class" studios, so where are the games besides the ones you mentioned? (LOL for even mentioning the Order)

Also the ps3 didn't catch up because it had better brand power because if the brand was so strong, people would have been willing to shell out $600 for a ps3 much like how Apple overcharges for its phones today, now that's true brand power. Sony changed their online infrastructure to match Xbox live, they added trophy support, they cut the price and they made smart bundle decisions like the GTA 5 bundle and much more. All of these actions are similar what MS is doing with the Xbox one right now.

Like I said in other threads, I noticed when I a console is leading in sales, the manufacture becomes arrogant and just takes all the money. Just look at how people were begging for Earth Bound on Wii and it never came, but now that the Wii U isn't doing so well, "Oh look guys, Earth Bound is here!"

The tides could very well change if Sony doesn't get competitive with price drops and getting more exclusives (not flops) under its belt.
