Gears of War.

I had to pause the game just to rush over here and tell you guys.

I just reached the level when your "junky" vehicle breaks down at night and it's flooding water and rain. The amount of detail is absolutely spectacular - and that's coming from a PS3 owner. You can actually see the the plants "tilting" when the drops hit them. Any structure above ground drips like in real time it's absolutely beautiful. The river beneath looks like...well, like a REAL flowing river and not just some amature transparent liquid-wannabe.

One small catch though :)

This is running at 1280x1024 with everything turned on on my new pc beast.

Since I'm running the game at over 100 fps, it's not likely to look the same on the 360 I presume...

It does have great looking water.

Have you played BioShock? It uses the same UE3 engine, but they had an entire team to refine and develop the water effects specifically for that game.

At first, it looks great. However, if you really look at it up close, you'll start to see the little flaws.

It doesn't have any water, in the 360 version you must be playing the pc version,

water looks good in whatever game you play

It looks very flat IMO.

I think BioShock has the best, followed by Uncharted and Halo 3.

On the 360, the fuel tanks look like they have over a 1/2 inch of rain stuck to them. Not to realistic IMO. I'm sure a nice PC may correct this?

That was a really good effect, but Crysis completely destroys it.
That's not to say it isn't spectacular, one of the more memorable moments in the game is seeing the lambents for the first time during the lightning strikes.

Well Bioshock destroyed Gears' water and only til Crysis came out and crapped all over it. Crysis is the first and only game to use the same water effects that cgi movies do.

Crysis. But there was some lame ass sailing sim with pretty impressive looking water too, I think it was virtual skipper 5 ..or 6 or 7 or something like that. And since it's a sailing sim I'd guess the water has to behave realistically as well.

edit: found the game
it was virtual skipper 5

didn't look quite as good as i remembered, but it's supposed to have top notch water physics too or something like that
Have you seen Hydrophobia? It's a game built around a liquid physics engine. Seriously.

This is very early in development, so it's certainly possible that it will be improved, but so far, it easily has the best water physics in-game, and the water itself doesn't look half bad.

I actually run Crysis on high settings on my SLI machine and to be honest, water-effects-wise this is much better.

Half-life II still has one of the best water effects ever. Remember it's not just the water, also look how it interacts with the envorinment.
