You guys are forgetting that there are PC games that focus on ship and water simulation. Silent Hunter 4: and this last one's an underwater shot. go ahead, click on it and have your mind blown: http://static1.filefront.com/images/kpaznegyqk.jpg and yeah, these are all ingame.

Yuck. It looked like so strange running down the trees and rocks like that.

BioShock and Crysis have the best so far, I think. Halo 3 has awesome water, too.

You'll have to scroll since it's a panoramic shot (that's been downsized quite a bit) but Crysis has some amazing water.

Crysis has the best I've seen.VoodooGamer

I agree, crysis water has realistic ripples (which gears 2 will support) and the clarity and underwater fog is unbeatable in crysis... so far. But next gen games will top that even.

GeoW had amazing water effects but I'd give the number 1 spot to BioShock. The beginning scene after the plane crashed was amazing, I thought it was a CGI when I was in the water lol.

The technical award goes to Crysis, but from an artistic and implementory standpoint I would have to give the nod to BioShock.

people keep saying bioshock and yes it looks nice but none of that water actually works like water... yes yes it streams down surfaces but if you put something in it's way does the water go around it? no. everything in bioshock is pre-scriped water effects. nothing acts like real water. but crysis on the other hand is the first game to user actual 3d water rendering technology. where you can effect the water in game. there was a video on youtube where a dude made a spout of water stream out ontop of a house and the water actually streamed down all the sides of the house and fell off onto the ground. crysis is the only game that actually has water in it if you want to get technical.

So... It's come down to this: Crysis(duh!) > That Sailing Sim... thing >>> Gears(PC) > Uncharted > Bioshock(consoles) >> Gears(consoles) > Ratchet and Clanck: Quest for Booty >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Wii Sports > Super Mario Galaxy(yes, Wii sports water is much more detailed)

By the time they come out: Hydrophobia >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Heavy Rain(hoping it delivers) >>>> the other list.

same here. when the cut scene ended i sat not moving for like ten seconds cuz i thought it was still going. lol. but then seriously crysis topped it. i was blown away at the first bay area and then swimming underwater looks incredible with the light rays piercing the surface

I thought that was the ugliest level of the game. :/

I wasn't even aware Gears had water physics. That section in the first act when you first get to use the Hammer Of Dawn that is surrounded by water, if you shoot the water... well, nothing happens.

At first, it looks great. However, if you really look at it up close, you'll start to see the little flaws. Legendaryscmt

that is the same with most UE3 games

It looks good from far, I have it on the PC, but the water was not very impressive. For that time, though it was the best around. Currently, in consoles I would have to say Uncharted, and in general, Crysis with Dx10 V.High and the Natural colours mod.

I was disappointed about every aspect of Bioshock... everything was hyped beyond what it was. A team of programmers supposedly spent the entire development period making the water effects... and they weren't even that good and only in 2D.

So far the most technically advanced water effects, like everything else, are in Crysis. The best looking water effects I've seen are in Kameo: Elements of Power. It might just be how all that colour reflects off of it but it is just pleasing to look at.

Uncharted, Halo 3, and Kameo have the best water effects in my opinion. Why? Because the player can generate ripples and waves that act like water and react to the player; not some texture on the surface and some particles spraying out. Bioshock has a bunch of scripted effects, and in the console versions, when a person hits the water, there's just a texture. Also, the water filling the room is pretty much a flat surface with some maps to make it look dynamic, slowly rising higher. It's scripted; not dynamic. Crysis is the same as well. When you see the water, sure it looks good, but it doesn't react. While objects may act realistically IN water, the water itself doesn't act realistically. Instead, when you throw a barrel or shoot the water, a ring with distortion pops up. It doesn't affect the flow of the waves in any way. It just has a simple flat ring that distorts to create the illusion that it's reacting with the water, but it actually isn't. While there sure are pretty looking waves, the waves when you enter it with something like a boat, nothing happens to the water.

The best looking water would go to Bioshock or Uncharted. The most realistic acting water would go to Halo 3.

I have played that game on a pc with everything up at high aropund a mates house its nothing that great well not compared to uncharted you dive in that you come out drenched in the stuff and then you can run about watching yourself dry in really time i think thats pretty amazing and besides the winner has to be bioshock in total even more so the pc version which looks the best byfar shoemen22

yeh naughty dog put the same sort of effect in the Jak and Daxter series but obviously to a lesser extent. I really wish Naughty dog would make games for the 360 cause they are really talented devs.
