At a business stand point, it does make sense that announcing 2 consoles at a time might be a desperation move to save the brand and maintain price. I own all the consoles in this generation including a high-end gaming pc and I have to admit that there's not much games to play or to anticipate on Xbox One. I believe it's the exclusive games that can save a console. The PS3 last generation, while it was not as successful as the Xbox360 in its first 5 years they did not do exactly bad, they were able to compete with the Xbox360 toe to toe with its exclusive games until the end.

In my opinion, they can make the most powerful console ever but if their line up of games are just Gears of War, Forza, Halo and their spinoffs, they will die out eventually.

There are exclusive games for "Xbox Play Anywhere" platform i.e. money goes to Microsoft. Xbox One S's existence is from it's lower price.

Microsoft knows Intel is an enemy for cheap gaming PCs with AMD Bonaire level GPU.
