While the second post was fanboy reading into that he was saying "unless it lets you rip peoples heads off or drool over large **** it is kiddie."

I think this is what is know as placing your insecurity on another. If that is what you read into it that is in fact what you are thinking about, not him. Because he never said anything like that. He just made a fanboy comment.

What irks me is how anyone is allowed to personally insult someone on these boards despite the policy as long as the use "safe" words. While comments far less insulting but simply using the "wrong" word can be used in a personal vendetta to get someone banned.

I relly need to kick the SW addiction.

vicmackey39

There have been numerous people n this thread who have flat out said that the quality of a game is defined by the level of violence or its "manliness quotient"

If that's not a sign of insecurity then I don't know what is. 50 bucks says that these are the same people who litter Xbox live with Racist and Homophobic slurs. These people are so deep in the closet that they can see Narnia

First let me make this clear. I do not think anyone is sad for liking the Wii, I should never have implie that and I am sorry.

Second let me say I am the only one who ever remotely said anything like what you are suggesting. If that is what you took from my comments you really need to read more carefully. I will post them again here.

It sad because of the total lack of games that can relate to an adult. I do not need every game to relate to me in that manner but ultimately I tend to enjoy such games much more.

Even MGS4 with its comic book styling and over the top sci-fi drama at least speaks to the kinds of things I am concerned about in real life. Like a war economy, or even snakes battle with a smoking addiction.

I may be immature for saying this but yes, I think about sex a lot and sex appeal in a game relates to me as well. So does violence and its consequences.

Not every game needs an underlying fabric of some socially relevant event but even then entertainment value derived from a game has a lot to do with more then game-play to me. I do prefer a strategy title along the lines of Company of Heroes. I do like super ninja's that shower in blood and gore.

Am I a violent person in real life? Not even remotely. But a game that lets me explore said violent or sexual side while exploring a fantasy world is none the less relevant.

But the last family game I enjoyed was not even on the Wii. It was on the 360 and it was Viva Pinata.

Just stop trying to suggest that someone who does not like the Wii is simply fooling themselves. Also, get over someone labeling it as sad. It is not intended as a direct knock at you so I will apologize and rephrase the sentiment.

How the hell do you kick the addiction?

Has anyone figured it out yet?

I do not know but we need to. Let us all be honest does this forum add anything but needles arguing and fustration to our lives? It is getting old arguing with a bunch of gamers, from any faction, that I would probably get along with in real life because we are all gamers.

I have honestly considered canceling my Internet for a few months to get away from the net in general. It is not a healthy place.

You could try blocking the GS IP on your computer for several months.

But you'd miss out on the fanboy rants.

It is not just a GS problem though. From XBL to World of Warcraft and beyond this current Internet culture of disrespect is depressing. I am as guilty as most as well. Although, I feel as though I usually try to fight the power but we all make mistakes.

Haven't their been studies showing that once people become anonymous, they're generally ruder and such?

I think this comic sums it up quite nicely

This Comic

It's a Penny Arcade comic, but I couldn't find it on the site.

Yes there have. Recently Frontline (aired on PBS) did a show on this very subject. I can not recall the exact name I will try and dig it up but it was available on comcast on demand as little as a week ago. If you have comcast look in the what I think is the Help & advice section under some heading that has to do with the Internet. Sorry for being so vague I will try and get the info now and post it if anyone is interested.

Edit: lol that comic does sum it up.

For those interested and that have comcast cable you can go to the Help & Services section and look under the heading High Speed Internet. The show is called "Growing up Online."

For those that have access I recommend it. It is about an hour long but really tries to get at the core of Internet culture. One of those story's they present is so sad I was on the verge of tears.

It is probably available in its entirety on the PBS web site though I can try and dig up a link. The show is Frontline ( a news magazine) and the title of this specific show is "Growing up Online"

I really liked it because I really thought I was pretty much alone in this addiction to the net that can often be destructive.

It just means I am older (sucks I know) and I in fact did not grow up online.

but I think I have at least a copy and paste thing you can use. Just browse the page and they do have the entire show available. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/kidsonline/

If that link does not work just copy and past it. BTW if you do watch it send me a personal msg and let me know what you think. That goes for anyone SW forum goer that decides to check this out. I hope a lot of people do.

I know its sad. People just do not care. This is what is really sad while loving your Wii is something I can totally relate to as I love my chosen game systems just as much. So just a few of us care to look into something like this, better then nothing I guess.

I feel very differently

IMO the narrative in games like MGS4, Geow, Halo etc is laughable at best. There are things that are genuinely more adult in tone (like half life 2, bioshock and COD4) but these are few and far between and I can play them on my PC

Besides which games like Metroid Prime, Resident Evil 4 and Fire Emlem are hardly for small children, in fact they are infinitely more adult than the crappy B-Movie sci-fi fare I've already mentioned.

I like a broad range of games across many different genres. I don't need swearing or nudity in my games. I just need fantastic gameplay and a fitting narrative.

I suppose what I'm getting at is that a lot of people don't exclusively want adolescent male power fantasies from their games and I am one of those people.

I am not suggesting that anyopne who doesn't like the Wii is fooling themselves. I don't like the Wii and I own one. I am suggesting that people who dismiss games aimed at a broader audience with colours ofther than dull grey and dog *** brown are insecure wannabes who don't know jack about games

From wikipedia:

Blast Works: Build, Trade, Destroy is a side-scrolling shooter video game for the Wii based on the PC game TUMIKI Fighters created by Kenta Cho.

Added to the game is a 2-4 player cooperative mode, ship and level editors, and a "Hangar," which allows players (while inside) to purchase various ship upgrades; the building itself can be defended from attackers, via the motion controls of the Wii Remote. WiiConnect24 elements will also feature in the game, including online leaderboards and the swapping of custom ships and levels among friends.[3]

A recent trailer revealed that the game disc will, in addition to Blast Works, also contain playable versions of rRootage, Gunroar, and Torus Trooper (other games made by Kenta Cho) as unlockables, in addition to the original TUMIKI Fighters itself.

Blast Works comes with a powerful editing tool that allows extensive customization to the game. Players can construct their own ships, enemies and bosses with the editor, as well create their own backgrounds.

When designing enemies, the player can manipulate projectile patterns, sound effects, movement patterns, hit boxes, and more in the Ship Editor portion of the Blast Works Editor. The player also has the option of fully customizing the ship that they play as. For example, the ship builder lets the player view their ship from many different angles, allowing them to add new pieces, such as wings or weapons, simply by adding shapes to their ship. The basic shapes can be combined to create even more complex constructs, and there are a few moving shapes the player can add to give their ship a bit more life. The player is also given full control over the size, shape, and color of any object they create. This ranges from their main ship to buildings created for custom levels and even enemy craft.

The level designer (the same tool the game's developers used to create the built-in levels that come with the game) also features powerful capabilities. The player can set the basics, such as color scheme or background, then drag and drop enemies into their custom level from either a list of pre-built enemies or custom ships previously created. The player can also set trigger events that can change the orientation of your ship, the behavior of enemy ships, or the movement of the game camera. The player can also add a number of different special effects to their level such as a Virtual Boy-like effect, which turns everything in the level to red and black, or a water effect, to make background oceans or the level itself appear underwater. After construction a level, the player can preview it before importing it into the game.

Majesco has set up a website (www.blastworksdepot.com) specifically for players to upload (after registering) and download user-created levels, shapes, objects, and enemies from the website to their Wii. Users can browse by levels, enemies, or shapes, with all content including a thumbnail preview and a rating.

[QUOTE="wiretoss"][QUOTE="Coyo7e"]

[QUOTE="Eponique"]*facepalm* Another thread, another topic where Wii bashers bash games because they're not popular.Coyo7e

Sorry but just because someone finds that game totally unappealing does not mean it comes from some deep seeded insecurity.

That game does not appeal to me at all and I think it is a little sad the games that sheep try and hype these days.

It's a bit upsetting to think that there are people out there, such as yourself, that consider the opinions and tastes of others to be, as you put it, "sad."

The Wii line up is sad and so is trying to hype it. It practically belongs on its own forum.

And there goes your "it's only my opinion" cover, revealing the fanboy beneath.

That wasn't overlooked, had a few threads going, and I wouldn't call that something really to brag about, but whatever floats your boat.

A lot of people in this thread have been owned. Especially this guy...

I just want to say that the only reason this game has a higher average ratning than NG2 is because only 12 sites have bothered to review it. Slyprince

This post reminds me of "Boom Blox" to the extent of that the Fanboys are using exactly the same lines as they did when Boom Blox was rated as one of the best games out in 08 apart from on GameSpot who dont either bother rating Wii games these days.

Just like Geometry Wars is a maths game?

Both are awesome schumps. Judging a game by it's name ain't clever.

I think the sheep should save their hype for an AAAE instead of a AAE.

Good games are a reason not to buy a console? Geez I must remember not to buy a PS3 because of Heavenly Sword.
