I could game on PC but I don’t. I much prefer the cost and simplicity of console gaming.

This in itself isn’t anything that would usually even need to be said but this is the gaming community so I await....

“OMG console peasant”

“How can you enjoy gaming without a £2000 gaming PC, 244Hz, and an ultra mouse”

“30FPS is sooo 2010 and gives me motion sickness”

“PC Master race FTW lolz”

I jest (sort of) I know the majority of PC gamers are just that ( gamers like the rest of us who care about games and not what they’re played on ).

But there’s an undeniably elitist subset of PC gamers who simply hate hate hate the fact that some people can enjoy gaming on a console Instead of a mega uber rig.

And they my friends give the rest of you a bad name ;)

Yeah I do. I really don’t care too much about cost though, I mainly prefer consoles because I prefer getting my games on physical formats. That is a pretty big motivator for me. I also just like the general aesthetics of consoles more as well both in the physical and operational aspects as well. Any benefits of PC gaming just aren’t a strong enough factor for me to change my current preference for consoles.

I guess I'm included in there although I like PC as well. The big motivating factors for me are couch multiplayer with the family and

for various reasons. There are also a handful of high quality console exclusives which pull me in every generation such as Bloodborne.

i work on a pc all day. not going home and sitting at another desk. plus i dont know much about pc so i would never know if im getting the best performance out of my pc. for consoles i just pit the game in and it plays on the highest setting it go to.

just makes life easier playing on consoles. plus its my multi media for the family to watch movies on.

i like playing on the couch as well.

Can be said of literally every subset of gamers.

-

But yeah, consoles were my main thing for most of my time gaming. Started as a console/arcade guy. PC was always there too for the occasional game, but like 99% of my game time was on consoles. Was like that from the 2600 up until the back half of last gen.

Now it's completely flipped around, only play consoles for the occasional exclusive. PC became the catch all platform. Not gonna rattle off all the benefits, you've heard them a million times I'm sure. But yeah, just couldn't ignore them.

I used to game on PC....BUT with PC comes PC problems. I'm talking windows, drivers, etc....

Maybe if your PC is just for gaming you won't run into as many problems, but I also use it to video edit and it was just a bleh experience.

I don't like troubleshooting, and I found myself ALWAYS having to do a little bit of troubleshooting with PC games. Yes even games from Steam.

Back in the 90's, I was mostly gaming on consoles and I did game on PC here and their but never physically own a PC hardware in my youth times. Got into the world of PC gaming in 2007 with Crysis and from that point on, I still play consoles but they are mostly for exclusives now and more then ever cause gaming PC is just too damn amazing, its extremely hard to go back to being a console only gamer.

Consoles & PC have their place, I just prefer the aesthetic of PC gaming and I still buy consoles mainly for exclusives and that's about it.

Also, why spend $2,000 PC? That's way too much for a simple PC gaming. $600/$800/$1,000 is really the sweet spot. Never ever go over $1,000 unless you don't care about money that is lol.

I myself prefer gaming on PC, but I fully understand why some people prefer consoles and I have no problem with that. We are all just gamers at the end of the day.

@frozenspider:

Same here. I don't really have fond memories of gaming on a pc, anyway. I remember constantly updating it, as well as the pc taking forever to startup or shut down. The only thing good about it was playing Half Life 1 and emulation. I hated playing with the mouse and keyboard. For fps, the mouse was too precise and made movement feel unnatural. The WASD was just flat out clunky. 😝

PC 100% here.

Consoles are good for the exact reasons you listed @frozenspider--cheap cost and easy to use--I just prefer PC for a lot of other reasons.

I bought a PS4 for the exclusives a year or two ago just so I could try it out, I had a bit of fun but Bloodborne, Spider-Man, and God of War were just not all they were cracked up to be and could not drag me away from the PC haha. But hey, I tried console at least.

I much rather game on consoles than PC. So much easier. I'm sure theres some way of getting a PC to mimic a console, like turning it on by pressing a button on the controller for example.

I mainly game on a PC, but consoles do have some titles that can't be found on PC, so I do prefer consoles in those cases, yes.

You have to remember most of people who say these kind of things is just born out of pure ignorance, you really have to build a rig at least once and use it it regularly to find and experience the benefits. Then you can weigh up if the money involved for high frame rate etc is worth it.

Does it matter? We don't usually discuss purely subjective topics. There's not really any discussion that we haven't already heard a million times about preference.

I travel a lot. Ideally a gaming laptop would be better but they fetch a king’s ransom so a Switch+PS4 is a lot better than a PC for me.

Also I see the myth of PC having issues with drivers and all that complicated shit in 2020 is alive and well lol.

PC 100% as well. I don't own any consoles at the moment. Bought the Pro a month back or so to finish beating Spider-Man and play Final Fantasy VII Remake. While Final Fantasy was good; it would have been a better experience if I would have just waited for the PC release. I just enjoy PC and have enjoyed PC gaming for a while. It's just about the experience and variety of options at my disposal to play games at the best possible quality in terms of visuals and frames depending on MY budget. I know everyone else will have a different budget.

I want to play with a controller? I just pull out my Xbox One controller and turn it on in-game. Easy

Sometimes I don't feel like playing on the desk and want to hook it up to the OLED? Windows + P and I get the image on my TV now and I can "couch game". Easy

Mods, Reshade, Discord, Playnite, etc.

Again, I know everyone has different setups in their home and/or different types of budget but PC has something for everyone.

I agree that assholes are on all sides of gaming. I think Sony fanboys are the worst though...lmao. Legit getting upset because Horizon Zero Dawn went to PC. I personally don't care who plays on what; you enjoy the games you play then stick with what you enjoy and work for you.

Honestly, I totally do, yes. I grew up gaming on consoles, and tend to prefer them, regardless of higher framerates on PC, and other benefits. That being said, I'm going PC this gen, so I'll have to part with my console love affair--though not completely, as I'm still getting a PS5 for exclusives and whatnot.

Consoles and handheld for gaming. Tablet and laptop and smartphone for business, shopping and browsing. No need for an expensive, clunky and stationary PC tower. Eww.

I think consoles need to leverage their strengths to stand apart from PC's. They're cheaper, lighter, and easier to get up and running, so a focus on local multiplayer should be at the forefront. Transporting a few consoles vs 10+ PC's for a lan is much more manageable and should be supported. My friends and I still have Halo CE lans, and it's still super fun, but consoles have basically just let that possibility of fun die along the way. BRING IT BACK!

Both PC and console is the way to go. If I had to pick a side and stick with it I would have missed out on some of the greatest gaming experiences. Imagine having no PS1 and missing out on MGS, Tomb Raider, Resident Evil and Wipeout Etc. On the other hand imagine having to miss PC stuff like Total War, Half Life, Planescape Torment and Thief etc

@fedor:

The only relevant things in that meme are wide the selection of games and backwards compatibility. The rest just depends on the person's taste. Even then, it all depends on the person.

I never throw out old consoles. So backwards compatibility is pointless. And the wider selection of games on pc is mostly comprised of shovelware indie games that most people wouldn't really care about, anyway. The great quality games are multi-platform.

No, most everything there is an objective fact. What you said on the other hand is subjective, mostly nonsense at that. You were better off not responding to me.

I like both equally, but only when consoles offers proper performance, be it graphically and fps wise. If its what we've been getting since 2017, pc destroys consoles.

Nah. I've basically re-created the console experience in my living room, but without the shitty performance.

Heck I've even put an SSD in my PS4 since I have to use it for exclusives. Just wish I could do something about the fan and cooling. Well I wish there was something easy I could do. I suppose I could take it apart and mod the cooling solution.

Didn't really notice performance issues much until recent years, but over time I've been noticing them more and I'm less ok with 30 fps overtime so I've been transitioning more towards pc.

Pc gaming can be a bit of a pain, I've had plenty of issues with HDMI audio or some (mostly older games) with other issues that I wouldn't have run into on console.

If all devs would just start giving their games a proper performance mode then I could probably live with consoles but they won't, so having a pc is basically a must for me now.

I need to upgrade my pc, still rocking a 970 and my power supply went bad. I'll be on consoles until I can get that upgraded and fixed, but to be honest, I'm in no hurry. I'm happy gaming on consoles for now.

Not sure how next gen will go for me, but I'm content holding off for the first time since the original nes.

I have always preferred consoles to PC. It is just more comfortable for me to sit on the couch and sesh some games, compared to sitting at a computer screen. I just like the straightforwardness of consoles as well, although they are becoming increasingly more complex with all the updates and whatnot.

Any game that is preferable to use a controller on PC I like to just use big picture mode in steam. Exactly like the console experience. Switch on the PC and just press the PS button on DS4 (all wireless too) and voila, your d-padding around your library on my big old 4k 55 inch from the couch.

I used to love gaming on PC but once I started working office jobs I just really can't be sitting in front of the monitor more than needed. I still play 4x games like Europa Universalis or Civilization but I spend my time lazying around the couch playing jrpgs on console.

There was a time where PC gaming was king but when you actively work and do everything on the PC, the desire to play games on the system is reduced. My main PC is now exclusively for work. No games on it whatsover (well except for the games being developed). The PC attached to my TV is my renderer and internet browser most of the the times. I game on it every so often. This may all change when C&C Remaster releases next month.😁Also PC supports emulation. Major plus.
