No.

PC gamer's are thrown into the "elitist" pool simply because consoles gamer's want them out of their arguments so they can have console only talks about hardware.

There are constant threads about PS5 and XSX... But the moment PC is bought up all of the sudden its "elitism".

Also what happened to console gamer's talking about "Next gen 60FPS on all games and no load times"... It seems like you guys want to have your cake and eat it.

You can't argue "elitism" when you guys spend hours talking about how your version of a game vs the other console has 2FPS more and 1 setting higher than the other... Then get mad when a PC gamer says but I play it at 2x The FPS.

I have been playing console for at least twenty years with minor pc gaming occasionally. I finally built my first gaming PC in early 2017. I don't know why it took me so long, I never had a problem with PC gaming growing up. I enjoyed games on it like the sims, roller coaster tycoon, and other stuff. I didn't main pc growing up probably cause i was a kid or teen with little money and console was good enough at the time. Here's what I think after 20 years of console gaming and 3 years as a PC gamer: If people prefer console gaming, that is fine, i understand because i was a console gamer also. Some people prefer the "lower" entry cost or the simplicity of plugging and playing out of the box or their friends are on console. That's fine, it's their opinion or preference, i cant argue with that. I can say though that that viewpoint is subjective meaning it is formed from personal preference or viewpoint. If we look at consoles vs PCs objectively, without personal bias, PC is superior than console in almost every measureable category. The simplest way I can put it is that PC offers significantly more freedom and possibilities than consoles do.

Here are some benefits of PC gaming from a lifelong console gamer:

1. you can spend however much money you want on a PC, you dont need to spend thousands of dollars if you dont want to, you could spend only $500 and still be able to play most AAA games. The choice is yours

2. PCs allow you to prioritize better graphics or better performance, no more dark souls blighttown nonsense or only 30fps racing games or shooters

3. you can make older games look or run much better than their console counterparts like 360 era games for example

4. Mods are a massive advantage over console. there are mods which can significantly improve games like skyrim for example or even entire new games are made like enderal in skyrim or Fallout new california. No more waiting for the next elder scrolls or Fallout. They already have them on PC

5. you can get emulators so you can literally play almost any game on any classic console: Atari 2600 to PS3 for example.

6. Online is completely free, no more paying for xbox live or PS plus.

7. I can use any controller I want and I prefer mouse over controller significantly for shooting games. You can also play or stream PC to a TV and sit on the couch if you want

8. Games are usually cheaper on PC than console or there is more sales or games drop in price faster than console

9. You can upgrade or swap out parts or have a friend help you instead of being stuck with an outdated console or having to buy an entirely new machine. You can get parts for really cheap if you shop smart

10. There is backwards compatibility to all games from now to over 20-30 years old

11. PCs are easier to multitask on. I can access whatever I want or need instantly. I could have a second monitor if i wanted to watch or do other stuff while i play

12. PC just feels faster to navigate especially compared to ps4, PS5 and XsX might be decent for the first year or so tech wise but they can't keep up with the constantly evolving and improving PC hardware over time

13. PC usually gets early access titles or updates faster than console.

14. There are significantly more games on PCs than consoles. Games like MOBAs, MMOs, strategy, simulators like city building or flying, and more which are usually not on console thrive on PC including some of the most popular games in the world like league of legends for example

15. PC has a stronger esports scene than consoles.

16. Building a PC or having someone do it or help is much more satisfying than console. I feel a stronger connection to my PC like I created and gave it life

17. Honestly PC gaming can be cheaper in the long run than consoles due to free online, cheaper games, and being able to put however much money you want or upgrading when you want to. Console might be cheaper up front but Xbox's dont only cost $500 for example, u have to pay more for games, people usually get another controller, people pay for xbox live, etc.

So anyways, the point im trying to make is if people prefer console, that's fine. However, factually and objectively, PC is simply superior to console. There is just no other way to slice it. If people want to only play on console, fine. I got tired of the corporate controlled consoles, got tired of 30fps, got tired of consoles becoming more like PCs with constant updates and stuff, got tired of consoles being slower or looking worse, got tired of using controllers for shooters so I moved to PC in 2017 after being a console gamer for 20 years and honestly, it was one of the best decisions i've ever made and I will likely not main console again. I'll get a playstation or nintendo console if the exclusives are good but everything else, i prefer PC

@frozenspider: I literally was able to play an entire Harry Potter RPG made in minecraft on PC. Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, King's crossing train station, you name it and it was incredible. Console doesn't have anything like that. I can play an entirely new Elder Scrolls or Fallout game on PC instead of waiting 5 years for bethesda to make another one. If you prefer console that's fine but it doesn't come remotely close to the possibilities or freedom of PC and that's why PC gaming is better

I’m mainly a pc gamer but I do enjoy playing on my Switch as well. I find the PS4 to be clunky. Never owned an Xbox but hear it’s even more clunky than the PS4.

Yep, I prefer console. I used to game on PC and have had great times on PC over the years, but those days are behind me. I'll be sticking with consoles indefinitely.

Consoles > PC, and I play on both. Price, ease of compatibility, selection, and community are much better on consoles.

I use PC and console, so it's not a dilemma for me. I do agree that PC is overhyped in this forum. Many of the most popular games on PC can be played without issue on console. Only time it mattered for me was when the game is demanding. But there are also cases when the PC version is inferior.

i have a perfectly capable gaming PC but i find myself gaming on Consoles the most.

the simplicity of gaming on consoles is just more convenient.

Whenever i game on PC i sometimes run into problems,

like for example i wanted to play Max Pain 3 but it wouldn't run so i had to google search the problem, i had to try a few methods because the first two didnt work..long story short it took me like 10 minutes just to figure out the problem.

same thing with Rise of the tomb raider - whenever i would play the game the screen would go black and automatically minimize to my taskbar. it was a quick fix but still..

those were just two examples but i had many more problems with other games..

shit like that doesn't happen on consoles (at least not in my experience), you just start up the game and play.

Ugh and dont get me started on multiple PC game Clients. Thats a whole other issue that annoys me

Most people are fine with others gaming on whatever they like.

However the 30fps argument is legit. Console developers choose to sacrifice gameplay for graphics. That's more snooty than pc gamers complaining about it imo. I'll personally drop settings and resolution to get 60fps if I have to. Console gamers can play whatever they like, and I'll play consoles too. But in SWs the argument is legit.

"too precise? interesting. I don't see how that's bad."

-If you're a perfectionist, it's great. But I like to immerse myself in fps games and even though the mouse makes aiming a breeze, at the same time it eliminates the challenge of it. I like to take my time with it and I like making mistakes. Kinda ups the thrill. Besides, I've actually gotten really good at aiming with a control. Feels like using a mouse is unnecessary.

I like consoles, I really do, but PCs are my main thing now. I a take pleasure in putting my own custom build PC together, even if sometimes it doesn't go quite right first time. I'm like some of the guys on Digital Foundry who see the beauty in both consoles and PC's - and you can't accuse them of any major bias towards one platform or another. Okay, I was wrong, they don't really have much love the poor old Xbox One S.

But not being able to repair the system or even change a hard drive on a console is a real bugbear for me. The only console's I've appreciated for being able to at least replace/upgrade the built in hard drive has been the PS3 and the PS4.

Then going on the official Xbox forum to ask how to repair a broken controller, being told that repairs of controllers are not allowed to be discussed and getting the topic locked by an over zealous moderator! It was funny too because I wasn't even using that controller on an Xbox! I told them I was on PC Still got locked.

Cost does come into PC gaming, you can't deny it. About 10 years ago when work was on and off and money was tight I played mostly on the Xbox 360 and later got an Xbox One. Times have changed and now I don't have those money issues. I wanted the best so I built a gaming PC and I've put together about three since then.

My latest machine is an i7 8700, 16GB RAM an RTX 2080 graphics card, 2 SSD drives and an LG 27" G-SYNC monitor. It's probably cost me well over £1,700 just for the PC. The Monitor was another £450.

You can sit on the couch with a controller on pc games too.

I get it though, i like gaming on both PC and consoles. Sometimes when i get home, i just want to start up the system and the game is on and i am already playing. However, gaming on pc i prefer more. Nothing is edited out, there is mods for stuff, just so much going on with PC gaming, it don’t get boring.

Currently, i have everything setup in the living room. Once i get my “mancave” going with a bar that i have built for it, i am putting it all in there. Going to build a new PC and hook it up to a 65 or 70” tv

Eventhough through my long experience in gaming with both consoles and PC, much of my experince has been on consoles, with some years with the PC (Ultima games and real-time strategy games like Warcraft and Age of Empires). I preferred consoles because of their known plug-and-play ability and that I do not have to be dedicated to get the best settings if I play PC games. Not only that, but the games that currently interest me are found in home consoles. I may go back to PC if the upcoming Age of Empires is interesting.

No. I don't get it, either. I kinda get people working on a PC all day and wanting something different. But consoles are not that different anymore.

PC's can be real simple. The way I let a store build my PC and the way I use my PC it's very simple. I can't really think of any aspect that I would like more about a console than a PC. And pretty much everything about gaming and pricing I like a little better on a PC.

The real question is this: why would someone who grew up on consoles/handhelds be motivated to switch to a pc? Are there enough positives to justify changing to a totally new eco system?

Is the average gamer really concerned about higher frame rates and mods? The price difference alone would probably be enough of a reason to keep people away from it.

I prefer gaming on a console. I work on my PC, so I like to get away and play games on my projector in the media room vs the home office.

That said, I am looking forward to the GTX 3000 series release. I want a GTX3070 to play minecraft with ray tracing in VR. :)

From my experience and this is coming from a console gamer who switch to PC from the past decades. Most gamers do often start on consoles, its rare to find someone who actually started on PC gaming first though but that's besides the point.

My first gaming console was SNES back in the 90's, I been gaming on consoles for many years as a child, I did play few PC games here and their but I never physically own a PC, I just game what I knew and that's consoles. I didn't discover what it means to have a real PC gaming much later in 2007, the game Crysis is what made me get a PC cause it was a PC exclusive and I build my first ever PC to play Crysis. I don't want to make my post this long, I'll list some of the stuff what makes PC gaming so much fun and better:

  • Free online
  • PC is an open-house, not a close-house like consoles are
  • Cheaper to buy games vs console games (it really depends where to look that is)
  • PC has the ultimate BC
  • upgrade whenever, however you want, not when a console manufactures tells you
  • 30fps vs 60fps is really the main reason to go PC and not for better graphics, but for better smooth gameplay
  • You have the choice to use KB/M or Controller (I use my Xbox Elite Controller all the time and KB/M is only use for first-person-shooter & RTS games
  • The multitasking is just totally awesome and fluid

Just remember, Consoles and PC have their place, if you don't care about what PC has to offer, there's nothing wrong with staying with Consoles. My biggest issue with consoles as of now is paying online fees when it should be free and not able to play all the games in 60fps is a turn-off.

I know you didn't ask but PC isn't all that expensive, its how you want to spend it is the real question. A simple $600/$700 is more then enough for the average consumer.

I don't think that's enough incentive for the average consumer to get in to PC gaming. Heck, lots of people only have one console per generation.

True, it just depends on the console exclusive games you want to play and also gotta look at long term of the console you will be sticking with.

I can only say this, you gotta try gaming PC at least a year to get a solid opinion. I still buy consoles just for exclusive games and everything else is purchase on PC.

Several things. Here are some. The convenience of an all in one gaming only machine. The cost of it is a lot better. It seems more like a community. PC hackers. Simplicity, you know the game will run great on the machine and everybody uses the same machine. Enjoy using the controller. Play on TV. My last two PCs broke for no reason. I had my xbox one s since it came out and havn't had a single issue with it.

No. I don't get it, either. I kinda get people working on a PC all day and wanting something different.

Even that one I don't get, can only say different strokes I guess.

Not only do I work on a PC all day, a lot of times I'm working on the exact same PC I game on. On top of that, I work in 3d art, already looking at polys and textures all day. But when I switch to gaming, or anything else, I don't feel bothered in the slightest. As a matter of fact, will often move my consoles over to the PC as I prefer the desktop setup for a lot of what I play. Prefer using a gaming specific display, and prefer an ergonomic chair over a couch for extended periods of play.

I suppose some people just need to draw a line and have that separation. But still, can obviously get away from the desktop setup if that's a problem and PC game on the big screen from the couch.

Realistically, of the people I've seen making those comments on here over the years, the majority already have a history of being a frothing at the mouth fanboy. So I don't really buy it. Though there are a few who are legit not on some fanboy shit, and just don't like it. Is what it is.

---

That said, plenty of other reasons why a person wouldn't want to game on PC. Some more legit than others.

- Intimidated by... all of it. It seems way more complicated than it really is.

- Up front price. PC gamers like to "compete" on price in these debates, but realistically that initial build is going to cost you if you want something good. The argument is inane, you're definitely paying more for the better specs and setup. I mean, my boot drive alone costs more than any console ever. My chair costs more than any console ever lol. No point in buying a Goodwill setup if you're getting into the more enthusiast platform. PC gamers need to take the L on that one, such a dumb instance of wanting to have it all.

- A need for physical games. Not my thing at all, actually find them to be a hassle more than anything, but some people love them.

- Duped by myth. Troubleshooting, installing drivers, downloading rams, whatever the **** they say these days. All nonsense, but people see it and do worry. Of course PC has endless configurations and is more prone to user error. Things could go wrong. It's just not the norm, but people are tricked into thinking it is.

- Fanboy loyalty. Some of these guys won't even give another console a chance, why would they ever humor a PC?

- Legit just a fan. Gets most of their enjoyment from their preferred consoles exclusives and ecosystem. In the case of something like Switch, the portability. Either way, something specific to their preferred console.

- Friends. A big one. People want to play what their friends are playing and play with them. If your friends aren't on PC, well...

- "Plug n Play". A different category of myth, but one that is widely believed. Consoles are actually far more of a hassle with their mandatory and lengthy update downloads and installs, both for the consoles and the games themselves. But it's widely believed that PC is worse, even though it's the exact opposite.

- Legit just not that into the hobby. Not an insult here, just lower standards because they really don't care. The benefits are whatever to them. If they get full satisfaction out of box that only costs roughly $500 or less, why pay for more? Not everyone cares about playing games in their best form or having an open system customized to their wants.

Probably some other shit I'm missing, but yeah. A lot of the fanboy shitposts can be chalked up to someone who would rather lash out against a platform than admit to being too broke or too dumb to get into PC gaming. Like a NathanDrakeSwag post.

But outside that, plenty of reasons people choose to stick with consoles.

Yeah, it doesn't bother me one bit. It's just more comfortable personally. That, and I'm not really familiar with PC parts as it is.

On another note, and this is very much a personal opinion, but no matter how great the graphics are initially, I tend to always get used to how they look. Plus, when I'm fully invested into a game and concentrating, it's generally the story and gameplay that I'm focused on. The "wow factor" of graphics seems to wear off on me very easily. Same goes for frame rate.

@speeny:

I'm pretty much the same on the graphics part at least. Generally just want a decent level of image clarity, but even then can quickly get over it if the game is good. Most of my favorite games are far from being technical showcase material.

Framerate, not so much. That one folds right back into the gameplay experience. And even in a case where it doesn't directly hamper the immediate gameplay to a huge degree (BotW for example), it was still a nagging issue from start to finish. Not something that really fades away.

No, nothing compares to the PC and it's been my platform of choice for about 7 years. I do love my Switch too tho.

@briguyb13: Right. I think part of that is... we prefer the thing we already know. So like you said, PC gaming doesn't just need to be better in some ways it needs to have some kind of big incentive that draws people in. If you look at PC gaming from the outside I don't know that there is a clear incentive. I think you'd see mostly a hundred little ways in which it's better but not something big. And if your friends are on a console, I don't think there is enough incentive for most gamers to switch to a PC.

Also if you only play a few games per year, then PC gaming is probably more expensive than console gaming.

And I do think there are some people who are better off with a console. If somebody wants to get into gaming, I get the appeal of just buying a thing that you know works. A console is made for gaming and lots of people have one so you know you're OK and you plug it in and get right to the enjoyment of playing games. With PC's there is a bit of a hurdle where you \want to know a bit about what parts you pick. It has become way easier over time but it's still realistically going to take you at least a day to figure out what you want in your PC. And if you want to get into something fun I totally get not wanting to do any work to get there. I get that can be a big part of the enjoyment of getting into games or buying new hardware.

But being on a PC right now, it just seems so obviously the better choice that it feels like most people who don't play on a PC is mainly because they haven't tried. I think that's what a lot of conversations boil down to. The idea that the other person just doesn't know. It's a bit like people reviewing Diablo 4 and you can tell they haven't played Path of Exile. It's pretty likely that Diablo 4 will get praised for doing things worse, simply because the reviewers are not aware that there's other stuff out there. And why didn't they play Path of Exile if they enjoyed Diablo? I guess they're just not familiar with it? It seems like a bad idea from the outside looking in. It's almost they choose to have it worse.

What is keeping you from enjoying your PC on a comfy sofa? I enjoy my PC at a desk with a monitor, couch with a TV, with mouse and keyboard, controller, steering wheel, flight stick, VR, whatever... PC does it all and does it best. :)

I like to relax on the sofa with PC, though. You know.. since PCs are way better than consoles.

Why? They both output graphics and let you interact with input devices. PC does it better. Every game you can play on console with a controller hooked up to a TV, you can do the same on PC. Unless it is a console exclusive of course.

Iv always preferred PC gaming over console gaming but I used to really enjoy console gaming a lot and was lucky enough to own (almost) all of the major consoles released ...until gen 7 when I completely lost interest. Apart from Nintendo consoles that I buy for my Girlfriend and Daughter, I haven't bought a console for myself since 360 and PS3 and I felt like I wasted my money on both of those as I hardly ever played either of them.

The last console I really played a lot was the Dreamcast, and I loved it. I used to like console games for their 80-90s arcade style games which the Dreamcast had an abundance of. Nowadays, theres one or two games every few years that I think might be worth playing, thats across all consoles and its just not good enough, at least not for me.

@frozenspider: exclusives, community seclusion , minimal configurations. My wallet lol

Consoles are better socially and modern entertainment wise but a pc will always be in its own magical lane as well. Especially if you are on the lower half of the middle classs and under lol

It just doesn't give me the privacy that consoles give tho. Or the convenience.

I make beats and produces vids on my pc for crying out loud lol

My conolse will always be primarily for gaming. Can't say the same for pcs

I prefer console but consoles can't give me free multiplayer, 60fps+@1440p on a 1ms monitor, cheaper and often times free games, upgrades, mods. So basically no, PC wins all day and I will never pay to play online ever again. I only use a controller and can't stand M+Kb, it kills my wrists. Oh yeah speaking of, I can use any controller I want and I still use the 360 controller which I think is the best controller ever.
