By then Crysis 2 will be out.

I don't think anything is going to beat Crysis this gen.
cept for maybe Crysis 2:) No it won't due to the fact its being made for PS3 and Xbox360 as primary platforms..Orly? I haven't read that before, and of course its unrealistic. Only an established IP or a breakout title can truly achieve those numbers. As for the game, i'll have to reserve my judgement until more details, and screens emerge.[QUOTE="PublicNuisance"]

Crytek wants 8 million in sales. For some reason that is this guys goal: to say he got Halo 3 level sales. I think he has realized that with high system requirements that is much harder. I think Yerli has lost his way. I doubt Crysis 2 will even look as impressive as Crysis turned all the way up with AA and AF maxed out.
skrat_01
Either way, unless they drastically improve the art-style and attention to detail in Crysis 2 its going to be a boring repeat of the first one anyway. technically amazing and yet one of the most boring games to look at.Birdy09Crysis had some strong art direction - the ice world and alien designs are more than enough evidence of it. Besides what is boring is subjective. It's just one of those guys who hasn't played it yet. I wouldn't mind him.

CryEngine 3 by its very design always uses the PC version as the lead platform, the console versions are generated from the PC version.

Where are you people getting this from? Well the smallest glimpse at the engine description will tell you that CryEngine 3 is a cross platform optimized version of CryEngine 2, it is not built specifically for consoles and CryEngine 2 is not superior to it. CryEngine 3 is used by building the PC version as the primary platform while the console versions are generated along side of it, how can it be a separate version when all three versions are built on the same engine using the PC version?
Haven't people been paying attention to any of Crytek's interviews?

It's superior in every way No. Crysis 2 will use CryENGINE 3.0 The PC version of CryENGINE 3.0 has tons of improvements over CryENGINE 2.0 For Example: Real-time Dynamic Global Illumination Deferred Lighting Uber Shader Technology Real-Time Soft Particle Physics Not to mention many low level optimizations and improvements to make it run faster.... CryENGINE 3.0 was NOT just designed to be the console version of the engine, it just facilitated porting the engine to consoles because of the optimizations and modifications made to the core of the engine. But, the high end still exists and has in fact been greatly improved. Just because the console demo didn't show that doesn't mean that it is not there. No it won't due to the fact its being made for PS3 and Xbox360 as primary platforms..[QUOTE="sSubZerOo"][QUOTE="JangoWuzHere"]

i lold at what subzero said, crytek hasn't even shown the pc version of the cryengine 3 :lol:No console limited game can surpass Crysis, it's a technical impossibility.
People who think they can live in a fantasy world were 512mb vram+ worth of resources can fit into 256mb and 48 shader units can perform like 240+.
AnnoyedDragon
absolutely false.
The game may be extremely scalable for all you know, afterall, Id is a great dev when it comes to graphics technology.

The game is being made for consoles first. The only thing PC will have is AA and higher res, he said it himself, the real graphics contender is doom 4 which he said will showcase the power of his new engine.
i know John Carmack is a programming god, but man, all his games recently have looked like crap, litterally. He could do so much better if had better art direction

It doesn't matter how high it is scaled, at its core it is console limited.
Crysis did what it did because it was designed from the ground up with high end PC hardware in mind. You cannot simply take a console optimized game, pile on higher graphical settings and expect to get a Crysis out of it.

What needs to be explained here is that it's about more than just textures / models. When you design a game for consoles - you have significant memory limitations that you don't have on PC. Having to go later and update the game free of those constraints, you will still have design choices you made because of the initial constraints. - However the caveat here is that it depends on how the game is developed internally. if they built with high-end assets and game design in mind, and then figured out how to make those work on each platform, we may not have as limited a game as you would think.Judgin by recent screens it doesn't look anywhere near Crysis in graphical quality

What about in scale?
Something that seems to be overlooked often.

in scale too. Especially considering how empty and barren the levels arePlus it is a little sad...RAGE will be out 6 years after Doom 3 and yet it will have more primitive lighting solution than Doom3 did

crysis has custom maps with 30x30 km with no loading times...lol fear 2 looks better than the original fearA multiplatform being developed with consoles as the lead platform will never surpass a PC exclusive built from the ground for the pc.

I think it will be about equal. Crysis has a lot of vegetation and Rage is more like Fallout 3 so it's hard to compare the 2. The Game Informer screens looked really good though.
Will Rage look better than Crysis 2 on consoles. That's the real question.
Vegetation is so much harder to reproduce accurately than rocks, sand, water, wood, metal, etc. That Crysis can make trees look as good as now is highly underrated. Rocks can be made beautiful just by painting huge textures onto them; you can't to that for grass and leaves, which is why Rage might look as good as Crysis, but will be inferior from a technical standpoint.
lol fear 2 looks better than the original fearvideogamesdead8
That FEAR 1 came out in 2005 and was designed for GF 7 series generation hardware, the same in consoles minus the fixed hardware advantages, doesn't bother you when using it as a counter argument?
The point was referring to right now, games built for modern PC hardware greatly surpass the capabilities of consoles.
I hate to sound like a fanboy but to be honest if you compare screens from Uncharted 2 with screens from Crysis, Uncharted 2 surpasses Crysis graphics-wise.
Of course, the screens from Uncharted 2 might be complete bull BUT from the way they're looking, this will be the best looking game to date. Although I will admit it is hard to compare some games due to clashing styles, Uncharted 2 is looking beautiful and noone can deny this.
Uncharted isn't in the same *ballpark* as Crysis :| Comparing low-res screenshots and online videos doesn't do either game justice, but Uncharted 2 is facing unfair competition on the Crysis front.I hate to sound like a fanboy but to be honest if you compare screens from Uncharted 2 with screens from Crysis, Uncharted 2 surpasses Crysis graphics-wise.

I know what you're getting at with the low-res screens thing but that is all that is available now (to my knowledge at least). But compare these two randomly picked screens and please tell me which looks better:
UNCHARTED 2:
CRYSIS:
Both were taken from IGN.COM so I highly doubt either is going to be graphically downsided for the sake of bias as this isa highly rated website. Uncharted 2 just has the look of a newer game, and it just surpasses Crysis right now in my opinion. As I said before the screens could be total bull but what ever they are they look extremely good.

Other than just not knowing what is being pushed in Crysis; you would think common sense would prevail and they would look at the hardware capability difference.
Less than half the vram? A fraction of the shader power? Apparently insignificant in console users judging their system of choice capabilities.
Uncharted 2 looks good but it doesn't come close to Crysis.

Sorry. Uncharted 2 doesn't even look better than KZ2, imo.
I may be dellusional in your eyes but to me Uncharted 2 just looks cleaner and more crisp. And don't take me for a ps3 fanboy, I am a fanboy to no console, I just go by what I see.
