360 has modified directx 9 hardware, so it won't be true dx11 tesselation. But still, if it's "faked" well it will still look good. Hopefully tho, it doesnt kill the framerate of the game.

360 cant go above dx9, dont fall for the hype.

the trailor they showed was done on a computer with dx11 gpu from amd/ati

SparkyProtocol

It can do DX9 with a DX10/11 features I believe. (and by a few I mean tesselation:P)

The way that the Xbox 360 does Tessellation is not at all the same as the way DX11 does tessellation. ATi cards have had the ability to do tessellation forever. But the DX11 implementation is vastly different(and significantly better for real-time rendering, IMO).

The Xenos does not have ANY true DX11 or DX10 features(has some features that are similar, but, again, not as well implemented as the full API), end of story.

if doesn't need dx11 for tesselation. ATI TruForm has been around since DX8. look it up. it's a way of doing tesselation as well.

bungie said it looks exactly like in game, so thats what im hoping for. its not like that kz2 cgi trailer 5 years ago that looked better than actual humans themselves. bungie knows where to draw the line and that reach trailer was no where near cgi quality. 360 could do those graphics with tesselation and the dx9 that it has. its not dx11 but no one is saying that except the ps3 fanboys. and you dont relate multiplayer beta to actual in game graphics, because everyone knows multiplayer always looks worse than single player. so we definitely have to wait for more footage of ingame or that actual game itself.

and on a side note, i never knew me2 uses ue3 engine. it looks incredible.

Yeah, but it isn't DX11 tessellation, which IS done differently from other forms of tessellation(and is arguably done better). Also, this wasn't some super secret that ATi cards have the ability to do tessellation. Infact, a number of Xbox 360 games have used that ability already.

Look the 360 can't go above DX9, The trailer was on a PC using one of AMDs 5000 series cards which are the only things can support DX11 right now.

I think you misunderstand what people mean when they say the 360 has a directx 11 capability.

"Hardware tessellation isn't a new concept. Animators at Pixar began using tessellation to create their highly detailed characters beginning with A Bug's Life, and they're still using it today. The GPU that AMD designed for Microsoft's Xbox 360 gaming console features a tessellation unit, and AMD integrated something similar in its Radeon GPUs for the PC, beginning with the Radeon HD 2000 series. This led many to predict that Microsoft would expose tessellation in DirectX 10. But that didn't happen" -maxiumum pc

I'm pretty sure that Mass Effect 2 trailer was playing off of a PC build. 360's graphics can look great, but not THAT great. Unless it wasn't rendered real-time.

Well, you can notice 360´s controller buttons in any of the other vids and this one doesnt look better. I think we have yet to see the PC version.

you seriously believe that dx11 is possible on the Xbox 360? To run a game on very high on the PC you need a 400-500$ graphics card alone. Blu-ray>DVD9, PS3 CPU> Xbox 360 CPU, the only thing the 360 has is a better GPU than the PS3 but it makes up for it with its CPU.

try reading more than the first post to figure out that this guy got his source from another guy who misconstrued the tech behind Reach.

I'd agree Blu-Ray being better than DVD-9 (Between Xbox/PS only) but the drive in PS3 is a pile of crap compared to what the DVD drive in the 360 is.

PS3 would have so much more to boast if it could acutually read a disk at a decent speed, where as it only reads half as fast as the 12x in the 360.

Which leads to mandatory installs, which in-turn makes for a great counter argument for the 360 needing more than 1 disc for a game. Works out for us lemms I suppose.

k, Back OT again.

First of all, can't wait. Hope it will provide more of a timesink than ODST. Second, not falling for any graphics hype until I see a Heads Up Display and a first person view with a gun.

Both the first and second game looked fantastic when they were released, and seeing how this is (supposedly) built ground up for 360, alot of people are expecting some truly great graphics that set the bar like the original Halo and it's sequal did for last gen games. Halo 3 looked good as well, just cartoony.

Halo 1 and 2 were not all that impressive graphically. Especially 2 which looked meh. 3 can look down right nasty some times. ODST looks pretty bland as well. So you have 1 Halo game. Why were you expecting Reach to be a graphical beast again?

This is a load of crap. The 360 can't do above DX9. This is like saying that my parent's PC, which was made in 2005, and has a really cheap video card, can magically do DX11. It doesn't happen.

Jacobistheman

ATI Xenos has features goes beyond DX9c e.g. HDR FP + MSAA, using pixel kill instruction on vertex (due to unified shaders). ATI Xenos still fails DX10.0 standard.
