What exactly is this? Are we looking at an official Apple controller for the iPad? An Apple iOS based micro console, possibly based on the Apple TV design? A brand new Apple console, a real one? Are we looking at Apple securing a major exclusive?
Thinking it's going to be Apple Metal related, they'll probably announce that they are moving away from Opengl in favor of Apple Metal, but then again I think it would be impractical for them to hold a event just for Metal......it could be a console.......if it is then ish just got real.

I can't imagine them releasing a proper console, I don't think they really want to be in that scene
They will be releasing the iGame console or GameTV with built in webcam , health calories heart monitoring tracker to track every movement of you playing infront of the tv. At the end of the day it will tell you how much calories you burned and gained. It can also record calories intake from eating a slice of pizza or a hotdog. Wow how cool is that? The webcam can scan your food and flash on the screen how much calories it is before you stuff it in your mouth. If you prefer sitting on your couch all day, no problem!! it will monitor your heart rate. Works well with horror games especially for those who loves to scream and curse at the TV while playing online FPS.
@DocSanchez:
I have no fanboyism in these system-wars of ours, I like the games on all three, and I generally like the tech they provide us with, and I adore my PC for gaming.
If there is one company I cannot stand, it's Apple. I do not understand how people even buy their products at such a high cost. From my experience with people that I have encountered, they buy their products for the name alone. Majority of them don't know what a processor is.
Apples "innovations" and ventures into new markets make my spine hurt.
Apple doesn't innovate at all, but they do refine.
The only Apple product I own is my phone. I've used Android, and what separates Apple to me is they have a strong vision. Their products are not an amalgamation of features from 1,000 different companies. That approach may lend more freedom and customization, but when I'm on the go I don't want to have to deal with that shit as the consequence is that it is not as stable and lacks a standard. I desire a cohesive, focused device that uses an all-in-one ecosystem utilizing a well designed and intuitive UI in a aesthetically pleasing build that I can rely upon. Many say some like Apple because they "don't have to think", and I find this to be spot on in some respects. On the go, I don't want to bother. This holds a lot of value to me, hence I'll pay more for it. This doesn't make me a sheep.....my values just drastically shift when it comes to mobile and Apple fits them nicely.
Just a matter of taste I suppose, but it bewilders me that so many assume people buy Apple products because they are morons that can't tell their elbow from their asshole or are puppets of marketing and name brand allure. I think this is more about making themselves feel superior than it has anything to do with what Apple sells, which makes sense as they do portray a sense of elitism in their advertising. Still, the disgust for them has spiraled far out of control for what it's worth. It is larger than the company and is now far more about being anti-establishment. It's not just dislike to some, it's vitriolic hatred. That is caused by the image that Apple promotes, not the products that they sell.
And when it gets to that point, people need to seriously reevaluate their priorities in life.
Apple just bought Nintendo and is making a new F-Zero.
I like the sound of that; apple buys a controlling interest in Nintendo and collab to make a new handheld with app store access with some sort of integrated eshop section featuring nintendo and possible 3rd party software exclusive to that device while maintaining full backwards compatibility with the entire app store gaming catalogue. This handheld can dock/interface with apple TV for... stuff. This device would feature an a8x or better soc which would be weaker than the presumably released a9 (or a10 if released later than sooner) variants of thier flagship mobile devices at the time but much cheaper than buying that future ipad air. Yep, there is a solid 0.37% chance of that happening. :)
Apple's success is truly amazing to me. I couldn't imagine ever working on anything useful with their OS. Their products are flashy and fun, but their price point is very high. I also HATE how their pcs still come with a useless mouse that only has one click.
Apple just bought Nintendo and is making a new F-Zero.
Feasible. Hell, Apple could buy Nintendo or Sony with cash.
Agreed and for SW purposes, if they by Nintendo then Sheeple sounds about right. :P

I hope it's something else. I am a 100% Mac guy - I only have Apple PCs (at home), I have an iPhone, AppleTV, and my home network is set up via Airport. If Apple released a console, I think my brain would find a way to justify buying it.
I am absolutely and Apple sheep. Not sure why, but it is something I have been since a teenager and can't shake.
New console. It will be weaker than the Wii U, cost $600 and will be sold out for the first 8 months. Until the next console launches a year later.
Apple thinks they can compete against Nintendo ms and Sony isn't this the same company who brought us those disasterous Mario and Zelda games on a flop known as pippin ya I don't think anyone would buy it because a it would be way too expensive
B there's already three better choices and much cheaper at that
Considering Apple have done nothing interesting since the 2010 iPad announcement, then this will likely be something garbage that exist already.
Hmm. I doubt it would be a full blown console. 3rd party devs are pretty much at their work limits it seems with Xbox and PS............and sometimes Wii.
Probably some streamlined app/game package.
I wonder if it's official support for gaming on your TV through your iPhone iPad, using your Apple TV. Many games already feature this, for example --
I'm lucky enough to have a strong, fully 5ghz wireless network in my house, so playing games like this is easy with negligible latency. However, for most people, you will see a noticeable lag between inputs and actions if you play games from your phone on your TV through the Apple TV (like you can see in this Modern Combat 4 video).
I wonder if this event or announcement (rumored) isn't new Apple TV hardware but a new set of software updates to allow latency-free gaming from the phone to ones TV via Bluetooth connectivity. It would be a pretty exciting turn of events. If it is a new Apple TV, it's likely that it'll feature a bigger harddrive, an updated SoC, and feature the same pricepoint it's at now (99USD).
I hope they really are making an announcement on this front soon, it's exciting news. I guarantee MS, Sony, and Nintendo are all watching very, very closely.
Apple is a destroyer of incumbents.

My head exploded, as somewhere in the ether of spacetime, two counterfactuals collided to try to make what you just said true.
Folks should also remember that Apple has more than twice the cash reserves of MS and that pool is growing faster than any other company in the world. If they want to destroy all other players with money alone -- they can.
But they won't spend money foolishly like other similar companies. Apple hasn't formally gotten into gaming yet because it's not lucrative enough in its current state.
@charizard1605: Bro, on Gaf they're saying it's actually about this: http://recode.net/2015/01/26/aol-likely-to-shutter-gaming-site-joystiq-in-larger-content-cleanup/

I have a small feeling this is not about what you think it's about >.>
@Desmonic: Ha, I don't know what to think it's about. We've got next to no information, other than the words, "Apple," "gaming," "Friday", and most compelling of all, "bloodbath."
:P
@Desmonic: Though I have to say, I really hope it's not what that article eludes to... But it makes more sense. To announce something Friday is very un-Apple.
Phooey.
@Desmonic: I wonder why Apple fans would get a call out for a Joystiq bloodbath. Thoughts? Both are AOL sites, I know.
@musicalmac: Probably because it was a part of Engadget, which covers plenty of tech related stuff (including obviously Apple stuff). But I'm just assuming here.
I'd rather have Apple actually reveal a controller or something than see this outcome become a reality. They did some interesting stuff with their reports/news too! :(
@MirkoS77: I like my iphone because it does what I need it to do and is reliable, same with ipad. Don't want apple's approach brought in to gaming or diluting it though.
I honestly don't think it's the Joystiq stuff, guys.
There are a lot of weird things happening. It may be a misfired text, but that seems unlikely to me. It may be a Joystiq shake-up, but I don't know why the tweet would mention Apple. It may be game-related news and Apple, but for the company to announce something on a Friday without notifying the press is out of character for Apple.
It seems to me that logically, if it were a game-related thing and Apple, it would be something more along the lines of an acquisition or a compelling software update to a non-iOS device (like an AppleTV). EA? Nintendo?
Either way, the word "bloodbath" also shows up in that tweet, and that's the most compelling word of all. I'll just say it again -- Apple has many times more money than every other game-focused company on the planet. Apple could buy just about anyone they wanted to buy, but they won't, because none of the game companies make enough money, if any.
Is MS in the black yet with the Xbox? It's my understanding that they're still swimming to the surface, but it's covered in a thick layer of ice and they can't quite find the hole.
To drive home how powerful Apple really is, listen to this --
Apple's iPhone Business is Worth More than ALL of Microsoft
That article is over a year and a half old. Apple's value and wealth has increased dramatically over that time.
Just let that soak in.
As far as Apple is concerned, the Xbox is a small fry (lol Sony...).

Wait, you own Apple? Sorry for the long post, I got the impression you heavily disliked them.
so what is this joystiq thing? Is there layoffs coming there? There shouldn't be a mention of apple if this is the case.
the announcement will now introducing apple tv 2.0 with games support now you can play shitty flash games rip off where you gather random flashing coins until you maxed the limit and be forced to pay over 400$+ in micro transaction in order to progress in game.
Tablet boom seems to have died out. I wonder if they might not try using gaming to boost it up.
And that controller patent seems terrible. Boxesd shape? Seriously?

I don't understand how it is a patent, at all, considering devices like that already exist.
