"hermit Mecca"
If I had coffee in my mouth it'd be on the screen right now.

To be honest, the closest thing to "hermit Mecca" for me would be the Computer Hardware section of newegg.com, not Steam.

Would actually be kind of funny if Valve started working with Apple and said F U to the PC XD However I doubt they would go so far. They've gained a massive audience on the PC, shifting only to Apple would kind of hurt them in the end. I reckon the visit/meeting was to try and get more support from Valve ( as in to get more games on Mac, better release dates, better support for older and newer games, etc..).Desmonici loled... Say f u to PC gamers? Its them made valve and steam such a profitable company. Not apple users Anyways , we might see maybe a ... steam console?!! :)
[QUOTE="Haziqonfire"]I use Linux, I'm more hipster.musicalmacThis is accurate.
Man, this is like a whole new level of hipster.
This. 12 of 27 of Valve's games work on the Mac aswell as PC.[QUOTE="Nintendo_Ownes7"]
[QUOTE="lostrib"]
Probably working on more Steam games for Mac
Hexagon_777
13 of the 27 can still be moved to the Mac.
Edit* I must of miss counted because that is only 25 games. But Valve has 27 games on Steam.
All the newer games are available for Mac OS anyway, though, right? Some of them. The only games that aren't on Mac right now from Valve are...
Counter-Strike
Half-Life
Counter-Strike: Condition Zero
Day of Defeat
Deathmatch c1assic
Ricochet
Half-Life Deathmatch Source
Half-Life 2: Lost Coast
Half-Life: Source
Half-Life: Blue Shift
Half-Life: Opposing Force
Team Fortress C1assic
Alien Swarm
Dota 2
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
The bolded ones are resent games. Alien Swarm was released in 2010 (After Valve started have games on Mac) Dota 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive aren't released yet.
Why do people like to link Mac owners to hipsters? I don't think people know what hipsters are musicalmac
I agree. Most Mac users I see on campus aren't any different than most other PC users meaning both come from the rank and file.
I'm one of those who's not really sure what a hipster is. My definition of hipster is someone who thinks they're cool. But, they're really not. They're only cool in their own mind. If it's wrong, oh well. But, that's been my view of it.

You don't know whats in Gabe's heart. You have no idea what percentage of the company is owned by their investors and what that means to the daily operations. You also have no idea about Gabe's ambitions (or lack thereof) to become a billionaire and retire or start a new company with his own money and no restrictions. Money has an alluring voice and Apple has tons of it. They could afford to overpay (however, I think its very unlikely that Apple would buy them)Well..Valve is privately held and there's no way Gabe will sell it. Cook propably wanted to learn from the best, especially seeing how much of a fail Mac gaming has been, despite all the effort put into it recently

Need more information..... "pretty" new doesnt mean ANYTHING. ontop of that you wont notice much of a difference JUST using windows, it comes down to the taxing things like games, compression ect ..... you cant simply boot up windows on thse 2 devices and say its the same because your browser loads fast.[QUOTE="PC360Wii"][QUOTE="inb4uall"]
no I have a have a mac pro, as in the desktop variety.
the family windows is a pretty new Dell btw. So no its not custom built but its still a windows running "natively".
inb4uall
its less then a year old so Idk how often you're updating your gaming rig but I doubt you run out every month the second a new part comes out ether. as for compressing files and stuff unless its gaming related files I just do it on the OSX side. I haven't had any problems with any steam games on the win 7 side. If these advantages are so un-noticable then your arguement for running windows on a windows seems to be a pretty poor one.
..... You say im making a poor arguement yet you cant even back your anecdotal hidden away from us evidence based on your household computers? I dont care if your familys dell was bought this year, you have no indication of model number, price range or specs. and yet you claim to have a new Mac Pro ..... which no doubt was 1000+ because they dont come partically cheaper, whereas a bloody dell computer this year can range from 300+. ITs the exact same stupid computer illeterate arguement from macboys I hear on a daily basis. "My grand+ mac/macbook pro runs better than my PC which is either A) Old, or B) cost half the price.) ..... Hell I was reading macrumours.com forum last night to have a look into this valve thing, and some idiot mac boy responded "Well World of Warcraft run better on my mac than my pc, maybe its because os x runs and feels alot smoother than windows that made the difference" ... im sorry, that stupid? well that sums up the majority of apples audiance. (not claiming everyone, there are legit advantages to macs, though very few.)Why do people like to link Mac owners to hipsters? I don't think people know what hipsters are musicalmacHipster stigma with macs are a recent thing, was originally targeted at art students (my flatmate, and im an art student or WAS aswell.) that think a mac is required to be a designer, and form mac cult groups, wear thick glasses and skinny jeans and obsess over music in starbucks. This same game said to me "Yea but steam is avialable on mac so whatts the point in gaming on windows " .... it just ooozes of fail.

Valve's a poster child of profitability in gaming.
Apple want in on that sector makes sense to get learning from the best and to be honest it would be beneficial if they give input on how OSX and its API for graphics evolves and stuff for you and them.
Apple doesn't need any assistance in the making money department.Valve's a poster child of profitability in gaming.

Tim Cook is my belief will not be like Steve Jobs and he will posisbly bring Apple back down again. This is my opinion.mike_on_micTim Cook is largely responsible for Apple's current financial position, and the iPad was his baby. I think Apple will sustain itself for the near future just fine.
Think I read that article on Mashable. Its a pretty skewed stat though. Ofcourse Steam would have Apple beat if you decide to include all of the apple Geniuses and what not. If its simply dividing revenue by number of employees well thats not really telling of anything. To take a simple example I work for an international online retailer. If you just take the revenue from my work I would be worth several million of the course of a year. However the reality is that the marketing department is about 10% of the total company, and I am dividing company revenue by total # of employees.Maybe Cook wants to see how he can expanding gaming on Apple platforms?
No better company to learn that from than Valve. For awhile, I don't know if it is still true, they were the most profitable company in the world. They made more money per employee than any other company in the world including Apple.

..
TLDR; profitable is ill defined. On topic: Successful companies become success because they work with one another. Google and Apple are happily in bed until a more profitable solution is found for one, no different here.

Not to count that apple stock is doing better then ever right now. Seems that investors are quite happy with Apple prospects
Sounds pretty awesome. For sure it will probably mean an "over-priced" home console however it will be in a extrememly stable environment. Unlike the xbox and playstation which I would argue have been the most unstable businesses in gaming if you consider how they have tried to market themselves, nintendo and apple products you pretty much know what you are going to get next.
Microsoft have gone down the kinnect road; while sony are probably scratching their heads in thinking of two plans (dual shock 4) or (random crazy idea as an almost do or die tatic) to try and regain mass market control.
The main issue is how everyone interacts with hardware is rapidly changing. People want services right away but also do not want to pay out of their arse for it (unless its apple). I can't imagine in 10 years time we will be here talking about desktop computers, but more on the graphics cards we have upgraded for our own servers that are locked away somewhere that we stream everything from.

I believe he was also largely responsible for their SCM (Supply Chain Management) -- The company is in good hands despite Steve Job's passing. They might not have the same visionary person at the top, but they have smart people working at Apple.

Any company that manages to hoodwink people into buying the same product over and over again even after small incremental updates is quite intelligent.Stevo_the_gamer
I agree to some extent. Some upgrades seem relatively minimal, but people still buy them. I've already learned my lession from buying a DSi, an iPod Nano 3G and others. No more lol.
Steam switching to console hardware confirmed
Apple gets a digital distribution service with real games confirmed
Is this a fact?As it turns out it was all BS. Cook never visited Valve.
And musicalmac was so excited :)

How do you think MusicalMac should be punished? Or is this punishment enough?Apple already won the music platform battle.
Now maybe they want to compete in the gaming platform battle.
I don't think Apple will make a console.
They will just integrate Steam.
