Gameplay is more important, but the graphics need to be decent enough for the job of immersion. I don't mind if graphics take a back seat, but not Nintendo piss take level (Wii/Wii U) a gen behind, I think they should at least aim for an inbetween.

But you don't mind playing on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 despite those taking the piss when compared to the PC? I see.

When there are new consoles i'll move on but, I admit that the graphics on these consoles are getting old. But they were released fu*kin ages ago. It's a piss take to release something like that now.

Take Endless Ocean on the Wii last gen, the games supposed to be about relaxing and swimming about rather than achieving much. But the GPU in the Wii is so bad it's not sufficient for the job, that's a piss take. That's cutting corners too far. Nintendo could improve their tech at least midway between the current gen and next gen.

I want top of the range games which offer both great gameplay and graphics. This just isn't an issue to debate. If you have an underpowered console incapable of cutting edge graphics yes, your console is capable of good games but it's going to miss out on a lot of the third party titans because people like me demand higher standards. I want great games with graphics and gameplay going hand in hand. And graphics are very very important in spite of what some will argue. They create the atmosphere.

If I'm gonna pay $60USD for a game, of course I expect the best graphics AND gameplay. For budget/indie games, I'm less nitpicky about graphics.

Gameplay will always be the most important, but ugly graphics can be a big turn-off.

i think immersion is whats important to me, and its not always graphics or gameplay. hell i loved journey and walking dead. walking dead was just a story with very little gameplay or good grpahics. journey looked amazing but thin on story and gameplay yet i loved both.

im getting to the point where immersion is what is most important and sometimes its because of certain parts or as a whole. its not always mechanics or graphics  or even story

Gameplay is what matters most to me. Graphics are nice but if I want to watch something pretty without playing it, then I'll see a movie.

Yes of course, many people don't understand that graphics add to the gameplay, take a look at how confined old games are in comparison with what we have today. Physics, simulations, particle effects...etc all contribute to immerse you into the game. If graphics weren't important we wouldn't see a 1000 "graphics king" thread...besides, I would just play text-based games and have similar amount of joy..

Gameplay above all.

I can play text only adventures and be thrilled.

Graphics are always a nice bonus, good graphics gives a good first impression, but fades fast, in my case I think graphics matters for a grand total of soemwhere between 15-20 minutes. Then the gameplay has to carry the game.

And while text only adventures are NOT what I play the most, it is worth noting, that I play as many 10+ year old games as I play games released the last few years.

Graphics isn't that much important to me as game play, once the graphic is a good indication of what was advertise than I'm fine with what I get.

Gameplay and Art style... graphics not so much.. however Performance also comes to play when considering the certain things the game can have going on at the same time.
