Gamers say next gen consoles will come now where near close to what top end pc's of today can do. Most say its due to developers saying it would cost too much to make a game much better.

So wouldnt that make pc games nowadays about at the peak of their graphics?

I'd love to be proven wrong about the developers saying they cant make much better games due to budgets. It would give me reason to upgrade my pc in a few years.

PC games are at THE peak and usually have always been. Do people not understand a game console is a computer? The architecture of the next consoles isn't going to be top of the line PC parts, so PC is always going to have the edge. It's all a matter of development support and the PC has proven time and time again it manages just fine.

Nope, look at games like Planetside 2 and Hawken. PC is thriving. Graphics won't stagnate bc if developers don't put in the effort to make proper textures and other graphical effects, modders will just do it themselves

I highly doubt it's peaked, and a few years down the road after the next gen of consoles have come out a new line of PC hardware will be released to once again FIRMLY plant the PC's foot in the ass of the consoles. It's just a cycle, PC will dip momentarily when the "next gen" comes out but then PC will slay the sh*t out of the consoles again. It never stops, PC will always take the lead so long as we are using PC's and home consoles. PC's will likely always be the cutting edge systems to own.

Next gen consoles will put consoles and PC's on equal ground. Consoles will be a little better because of their ease of use.

No they're not at their peak.

Linux is actually really cool. Its pretty portable, can beused for plenty of things, and is excellent platform for developers. I do most of my productivity and development in linux. However I keep windows for games.

To answer the question OP: No, there will continue to be improvement until the day games are as realistic as reality. Meaning, virtual reality, looking like real life.

You will continue to see leaps ahead within the next few years. You'll have to just throw away that Alienware pos.

Ask the question when PC gaming actually starts to decline. We do not know as the PC platform is open and has so much room to grow.

PC games would be at their peak, if they existed

No PC game exists that is DX11 only and no good PC game is exclusive

So, who really cares for PC gaming, there is no such thing

You talk about the PC like its some console with fixed hardware and limited technical abilities. The PC will be cutting edge as long as computers are used in the way we know them today.

Maybe.

If the next gen graphics are what we're at right now I wouldn't mind.

I would certainly prefer a growth in depth and gameplay like the one that gaming had 15 years ago.

I wouldn't mind if they were remakes either, I just want to be done with 6 hours long CoDs and half-assed RPGs.

Real men use Linux, while casual users who don't want to learn basic programming use Windows. Once you know basic programming, jump over to Linux, its far more stable with better security protection. Until then, stick with soccer-mom friendly Windows 7 operating system kid.

PC tech is always advancing. There is no such thing as a "peak" at least in technical terms for PC games. Budgets and finances are different however from power.

Or just partition that ol' harddrive and get the best of both worlds.
