I played Fallout 3 and Skyrim back in the day. They were pretty cool experiences, with the exception of the buggy mess they were lol (at least that was my experience on my PS3). Skyrim is also one of my favorite games, just because I loved the sense of exploration and discovery in that game. It was new for its time. I've also played Fallout 4, which was ok, but didn't seem to have the same inspiration as the other two. Overall, I'm looking forward to the next Elder Scrolls game, but with caution. It's been 10 years since Skyrim and I'm not sure if Bethesda can really create a AAAE type game of that caliber again. Fallout 76 was a huge flop and they also pulled a weird move towards mobile. Hopefully they stick to an awesome single player experience for us core gamers next time.

What about you, SW? Are you a fan of Bethesda RPGs?

Played Fallout 4... couldn't get into it. Never played Skyrim. Therefore I am not a fan of Bethesda RPGs. JRPGs are better

Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim are beloved games, I see no reason for whatever the next is named not to be great too. Just repeat the formula no need for major changes.

Fallout, 4 was still fine. I think it's a great game and it's not like there's much competition. 5 should abandon construction and focus on being a better RPG.

Fallout 3 wasn't bad. That's the last one I played. I have the 4th downloaded but haven't gotten around to it.

Yes and No.

I don't really consider TES to be RPG, it's more action game with RPG elements. WIth that said, I loved the hell out of Oblivion and Skyrim.

I loved Fallout: New Vegas, and while Fallout 3 was novel at the time, it hasn't aged all that well. Fallout 4 was OK and yet at the time I played it, I felt somewhat disappointed by it because it seemed leading up to the release it was going to be a great game but it was just more of the same.

I am cautiously optimistic about TES 6, and have frankly given up on the Fallout series.

What I really want to see is Fallout given the XCOM treatment; base-building plus turn-based tactics.

They're pretty and ambitious, but always stumble a bit with execution and lack depth as far as RPGs go. Still, they have that nice wanderlust quality and drives me to explore the worlds they created - and look past the jank.

It's the mods that redeem them, really. Bethesda RPGs are like canvases to paint your own personal masterpieces on to.

I loved Fall out 3, oblivion and Skyrim on the 360, but fall out 4 was just awful. Especially the graphics and buggy game play that I lost respect for Bethesda games.

The elder scrolls: Yes.

Fallout: not so much. Dont know what it is. every time i try to play them i just lost interest quickly. it was the same for fallout 1 and 2 also. maybe the setting doesnt interest me.

Morrowind is still my fav elder scrolls though. the setting, the story and the RPG system is the best of them imho.

with oblivion and skyrim i just wish Bethesda would commit to either making it an RPG or making it more of an adventure game. like a big zelda or a medieval Outcast. listening to the "it looked like it hit it but i missed" criticism of morrowind was just the wrong idea. trying to walk that tight rope isn't doing the series any favours.

But i still enjoyed Oblivion and Skyrim too: warts and all. I'm looking forward to Elder scrolls 6 also whenever it comes and also starfield is also great.

Yeah I really enjoy their games myself. I’ve played and loved the following:

- Oblivion

- Skyrim

- Fallout 3

- Fallout 4

Tried Morrowind back in the day on the original Xbox but it just didn’t click with me. I think that it mostly had to do with the combat in the game. Was really looking forward to Fallout ‘76 but that didn’t turn out as well as I was hoping it would. I’m very much looking forward to Starfield and Elder Scrolls VI.

Apparently a ton of people think they make great (although buggy) games.

I expect the new games to be no different, maybe a bit more polished.

It's easy to shit on them but the truth is I've played hundreds of hours of their games.

The actual RPG element appears to be using the game as a canvas and costuming it

Which, being giant cunts (98% of the industry) they attempted to turn into microtransaction hell, where you're game could have now cost hundreds upon hundreds of dollars of what was previously free.

So yea, def enjoy their games, not gonna try to be a hipster can claim I don't. Do I think the core game itself unmodded is "great"? No. Without it say that's average at best with the main thing holding it up the sheer amount of content and general open world exploration.

Mechanically each game is bad in it's own way and I don't think you need to be a gaming expert to see that.

I had Skyrim VR and bought the PS4 version and hated the controls. Maybe if I had played it back on PS3 I'd have liked it. I can't think of any other game by Bethesda that I've played.

Not without heavy modding. Last one I purchased, Skyrim, I managed to last 7 hours in before I could take no more of the boredom. Someone once described Skyrim as wide an ocean, depth of a puddle and I found that to be completely apt. However, once the gameplay and quest mods started rolling in I found the challenge, skill/perk system depth, and decent writing the game should have had in the first place. Of course, Bethesda is apparently allergic to hiring actual writers so it seems their games will remain empty modder canvases.

Thought FO3 was decent and FO4 were terrible and a buggy mess... TES series on the other hand are great! So yeah looking forward to see how star field will turn out, not a big sci-fi fan, so not sure it will be up my alley but will definitely check it out!

Yes and no. I always play them. But none of them would make a top 20 list of favorite games. But they are fun to play for a bit. I never could sink enough hours into Skyrim before losing interest though. I started and stopped about three times. So, yeah, enjoy them, just not in love with them.

Last one I played was Oblivion. It was kind of fun until I realized that I can just respawn the same dungeon and raid it over and over for better items every time. It took away the incentive to explore that Morrowind had.
I would rather play SMT

My roommates in college got me into Morrowind on Xbox and Fallout 2 on PC, I would later get into Oblivion on PC until it died, pick back up on Xbox 360, and get Fallout 3 and 4 and Skryim on Xbox 360 over years. Then Fallout 4 on XB1. So yeah, I guess so. I didn't think Oblivion was all as bad as people said either. Skyrim I recall using some kind of balance of enchantments, alchemy, and blacksmithing, to basically craft some godly armor and weapons, I could one shit kill dragons and trolls in the end with my bow... kind of ruined it for myself.

I discovered an exploit in morrowind where you go to a trainer and you need something to negatively effect a primary skill (for leveling) so you can keep leveling up without hitting a cap, so you can keep leveling up attribute points until all are maxed. Normally this stops once you Max out the primary skills but because you can keep leveling up there is no stop to this. And basically just become the most OP thing ever.

Yes very much so. I have always loved Bethesda rpgs. Love exploring the big nice looking open worlds. Love doing all the quests and really enjoy the combat as well even though it is not perfect, for example I love seeing and fighting all the different creatures and monsters and different enemie types in Fallout 4 and Skyrim for example.

I never finished Daggerfall as it used to crash on me and loose hours of gameplay. Morrowind I absolutely loved a lot, Oblivion I liked but it seemed like a step down from Morrowind due to simplifying some of the RPG elements and Skyrim was even worse for it, I thought Skyrim was ok but not that great even compared to Oblivion. Id rather play any of them 20 times over than play another cringe fest Bioware RPG though.

I thought the Fallout games were just ok. I havent played 76 and probably never will.

In Morrowind they had way more weapon types, including throwables and you could create just about any spell or enchantment you could imagine. Want to fly? You can. Want to jump hundreds of feet in the air? You can. Want to walk on water? Breath underwater indefinitely? Sure. Want to be a stealth character using shurikens? Morrowind had that too.

Most of that was gone by Oblivion, the rest was gone by Skyrim where you only get 3-4 different weapon types, and magic is very scaled back. You have less ways to play, less customization. Also, fast travel does take out immersion. It completely changes the way you play because in Skyrim, you may just run through all the fighter's guild stuff, going all around the map until it's done and starting another guild. In Morrowind, I found I am more likely to stick around a city, and do the various guild things there before moving on to the next town.

I really liked Fallout 3, but couldn't finish NV. Played and finished Fallout 4, and liked it quite a bit but I felt that something was missing. I hated oblivion and played skyrim until almost completing everything, but wouln't do it again. It felt so mediocre. It does have some appeal though. If the next iteration of these games come to PS then I might get them when they are super cheap. If they don't then meh.

Skyrim, Morrowind, and Oblivion are all my fav Elder Scroll games but Skyrim is by far my most played Bethesda game of all time, and their Fallout games are a hit or a miss. I hardly care about the buggy mess they have and I can tolerate bugs on their games. Glad I never gave a damn about Fallout 76, dodge a bullet on that game.

Bethesda has nice ideas and great world building as far as core design is concerned. Their issue is polish. They lack polish so their games are buggy messes. Maybe Microsoft pouring money into them will allow them to invest in a better engine and have better quality games. At least, that's what I would do if I were Microsoft. I'd leave them alone to their creative thought processes, but force them to upgrade to a better engine.

I'm a huge fan of Morrowind and Oblivion. While I didn't hate Skyrim and it was a good game it felt as though it held your hand too much and stripped features I loved in previous ES titles. That said, overall I love the company and would rate it pretty highly on a list. I am really hoping their next wave of games crushes it and I am 99.9% sure I'll be getting at least a couple of them just about no matter what happens... bar they don't release.

Loved Morrowind. Oblivion was pretty cool, but got repetitive. Skyrim was fun for a while. Fallout 4 sucked.

Overall, yeah I like them. Pretty unhyped for ES6 though.

I love their games. The amount of time I have spent in the Fallout games and Elder Scrolls games is just ridiculous. I have probably spent more time playing Bethesda games then every other developer combined besides for mmo games. I just started playing Fallout 4 again because of the Sim Settlements 2 mod.

If Sony had bought Bethesda then I would have bought a PS5 since Bethesda are my favorite developers.
