Been a collector from the get go, but this gen (very late) I found myself buying digital for Xbox One. Now PS5 digital system comes along and I think I'm going all digital with both Microsoft and Sony next gen. Who's with me?

I know PC peeps are already all in, and I'm going to stay physical with Nintendo for as long as possible, but isn't it time to accept the inevitable?

If I could share my digital games in some way I would go all digital.

I guess it'll be that way for some, so you guys do you. I just feel like these discs are kinda pointless these days with mandatory installs and tons of patches and such, kind of seems like an inconvenience to me with the disc authentication process.

Yeah, pretty much already there. Think the only physical games I bought this gen were Bloodborne and BotW. Bloodborne being a random impulse buy at the mall, and BotW was pre-ordered with the Switch.

I'd go digital with Nintendo if they weren't so back-asswards. Having a secondary Switch Lite on the go can be a real problem with digital authentication out in the wilderness. That's why I'm still pro-cartridge with them.

I just don't feel comfortable having 1000s of dollars tied to an account. What if it gets hacked or accidentally banned or something.

I doubt I'm going next gen. Westernized Sony bores me, and Microsoft should go home. I can see myself getting another Nintendo, but they pretty much have their own generations now.

Until bandwidth caps mostly disappear in the USA, I'll keep getting what I can physically. Don't wanna have to think about or check how much I've downloaded in a month.

Assuming I get a PS5, I'm not that confident in Sony's security anyway. Someone stole my PS3 account.

I do download everything on PC, my main platform, but it's mostly because I don't have a choice and DRM is so much stricter with physical games there anyway and the gaming community rejected Blu-ray. (Who wants to install seven DVDs to play one game?) I also haven't gotten any of my PC accounts stolen yet.

Now that games are more expensive, digital is looking less attractive.

You're never going to convince me that physical is better than digital, and I will probably never convince the physical copy loyalists that digital is better.

With that said, I am still pretty shocked physical game media is still as prevalent as it is these days. I imagine it's from retailers pushing for it, tapping into the sentimentality of it.

i buy both digital and physical. single player 1 and dones i buy physical.

online games that i just pick up and play at anytime i get digital.

if was forced to go all digital by nintendo next gen? honestly...i wouldn't care.

physical games dont even have manuals anymore. all of them require patches.

also i dont really collect games. not my thing. i have like 3 xbox 360 games left physical, maybe 3 wiiU physical games and of course 20 or so switch games physical. after the switch gen is over its time to sell the ones i will not replay.

It seems like these threads come up every couple of months here so maybe i should put this in my sig.

I like my games like i like my women, and that's physical.

Til I die. If gaming goes all digital i'm most likely to quit modern gaming and get myself a Dreamcast and retro that shit up :)

I'm already there, all digital on PC and Switch (except for Switch Ring Fit because it's only physical). Not looking back, the convenience factor is just too high and I never cared for collecting plastic cases.

I used to think that way as well, but in the 7 years I've been solely a PC gamer, I've only had one account hacked once and it didn't take much to get it back. And I don't see how you'd get "accidentally" banned.

I'm 100% digital on steam, I'm 99% digital on the switch lite except for fire emblem which I bought physically with the system. (I hate switching carts and carrying around carts so I just leave FE in the system)

I was like 70% physical on PS4 and like 100% digital on xb1. Something bout playstation that I was buying lots of discs on amazon and just fit for me I'm going mostly digital now though on it. I think I like cheap sales of ps4 discs on amazon I was getting really good deals.

If Playstation really wanted to sell the digital (I doubt they do) then they should have a way to convert the physical discs into a digital license for those interested in doing so.

If anything Sony is probably hoping to sell more of the disc-less version rather than the 500$ version because then you'd have to buy all of your games off of PSN and Sony won't have to share the profits with the retailers.

I doubt they would ever offer a "convertion" program; back in the PSP days they said they would have something in place for people who only had physical games and wanted to buy the digital-only PSP Go to transfer their games digitally but they ended up doing nothing.

There's 3 big reasons why I buy physical. You can usually get better deals. You can resell games. You actually own the games.

I can't see any advantage of buying digital.

Getting it at midnight is an advantage. Not having to store and switch discs is an advantage. And even though you, like I was, are mostly physical, you'll still end up with a sizeable digital library down the road do to weekly PSN sales.

On top of that some of these crazy physical collector's editions are extremely pricey, like that new Ori Collection.

Not interested in buying games on optical media or flash cards. I have gigabit internet and all the resources I need to make sure I can always play a game I want to play regardless of what happens on digital stores. No company is gonna tell me I can't play a game. There's ALWAYS a way. Games were born from digital, dun raised by it. My 1's and 0's are bound to NO physical object!

I'm good.

PC gamers have been digital for a while.

Looking at Nintendos Eshop, very little interest in console digital games if this is the route they are after.

the criteria for me is are games generation agnostic, are digital downloads fast and do i have enough hard drive space. sony failed on all these for me this gen. and i couldn't carry over digital purchases i'd made on the 360 to my xbox one account either.

this upcoming gen i feel more confident that consoles are trustworthy enough to go digital. problem is i've got 90+ physical ps4 games i wouldn't be able to play if i do, so i'm resigned to having to buy a ps5 with a drive just so i don't lose all those games. running a ps4 side by side with a ps5 isn't something i'm interested in

@Macutchi: Good gosh why? If you have a 4k set and/or a HTS you should have a multitude of HDMI hook ups. I'll have a row of Playstation goodness in front of mine from PS3 super slim, to PS4 Pro, to PS5 DE.

Glorious.

Been 100% digital probably for nearly a decade now.

The little plastic boxes and discs are such waste of space and so annoying sift through for the game I want. Rather just hit "Install" and go for lunch.

I'm digital only on PC, I like my collectors/limited edition steelbook physical copies.
So I'm staying faithful to that PS5 variant.
