We're all probably looking too much into it, but we'll just have to wait and see.
@TheEroica: I'm hopeful it does something on the gameplay side to reel me in, but I doubt I'll have much time to afford it right away. It already has an uphill battle in that respect and the lack of current info certainly doesn't help much. Guess I'm subject to the wiles of reviewers and first impressions.
When is the last time we've had a AAA game from a franchise as big as Mass Effect, 2 months from release where we really know nothing about what the game is outside of surface information like a 4k walking demo and some no context combat scenes?
Is this a product of no Man's Sky and sony shitting their collective pants in the undelivered promises from a developer and overhyped crappie video games?
As this article suggests....

Or is MEA just not going to deliver the same quality and focused direction of the last trilogy and Bioware doesn't really want to shine light on that?
Not trying to be a Debbie downer about my most hyped game of 2017, but sometimes you gotta call a spade a spade. This game was announced 3 years ago... We've seen more shots of developers inside of cubicles and concept art than a focused video game... Why?
I do admit I praised the announcement of fallout 4 and its hype leading up to release... Very short amount of time to announce and release and it was met with a full marketing campaign.
Are we just in the hot zone before launch where things become clear or is mea heading for mediocrity?
As a ME fan you should know how much the original ME1 changed over it's creation (I religiously followed that game back in the day in the Triple A union here, we were all ME/bioware fans). They are making sure the final product is what they show off for ME4
original ME1 (trailers are from 2005, 2006 and 2007)
The trailers looked pretty bad to me I hope they're better at making games than they are at putting trailers together lol. Everything looked so dark the whole time which worries me a bit but it's ME so I know it will be one of the very few games I break my pre-order rule for and I'll have it day one.
@Ballroompirate: I followed it religiously too... Twas a golden age of gaming... Independent Bioware was an awesome thing. I can see your point about them being coy from the first game. I remember when art style shifted and things were clearly scrapped or never meant to be used...
My ultimate fear is an open world game with mundane fetch quests for side content. I don't need to know everything before launch, but I don't feel like I know much at all about the game.
@Maroxad: Yeah Studios not being the same is another source of apprehension.
I don't know. I keep myself mostly in the dark about games prior to release. I usually watch only one trailer if I am interested in the game, and as I enjoyed the Mass Effect trilogy, I am going to pick up the new game anyway.
If I had one concern, it would come from playing Bioware's Dragon Age Inquisition. I didn't like that game but I am hoping Mass Effect won't take elements of DAI's design.
i haven't played that game, what elements are you talking about? (you weigh in on this too @silversix)
I played Dragon Age: Inquisition through EA's Origin (I'm a EA Origin member) and I think I know what both Silversix and JumpAction are talking about. The quests/quest structure in Dragon Age Inquisition was easily the biggest flaw of what was otherwise a great game to some but for me, I hated Inquisition game, I never bother to finishing that game, Andromeda is using Frostbite engine but to some, they don't like it but I'm okay with Frostbite Engine however. Yes we both know Mass Effect & Dragon Age are two different games despite there both RPG, it's the fact that Inquisition was Bioware's successful game, some don't like the idea Bioware will use similarities for Andromeda. Does this answer your question mjorh?
Here's hoping we don't get to experience that shallow side quest structure in MEA
Yeah thx :D
Man, I really need to download the original trilogy on my Xbox One. I never played the first one or third one and I spent like an hour on the second. I've always heard good things and the hype for MEA seems to be pretty decent. Hmmmmm
I am cautiously optimistic about the game. If I had never played a ME game prior to seeing what has been shown, I probably would not be too excited. They have not shown anything that impressive. It is like they feel the game gets a free pass because it is ME. On the flip side, you don't want to see too much so you can experience it as you play it.
I'm not holding my breath. Ill definitely wait for reviews... Only played through the third one once
Never ever pre order. Doesn't make sense because you can always just walk into the store on day one and buy it anyway. Wait for reviews if you aren't sure you want it. How hard is that? I am cautiously optimistic and hoping it will be good. I could say the same thing for pretty much every game ever made. We won't know what it really is until it actually is a thing that exists. I think it will be good.
You should be, ME was great, ME 2 was good and ME 3 was average. What does that tell ya?
ME1 was by far the weakest gameplay wise and ME2 by far is the weakest story wise only salvaged because of the characters. ME3 is the only one to nail both its plot and its characters, as well as its gameplay. And its filler can be done in less than an hour if the player knows how to do it.
ME2's plot is idiotic, nevermind filler. If MEA's plot is anything like ME2's (or DAI's), the game will suffer.
@darkspineslayer: finally someone makes me feel better... Thanks bud.
Also, replace Garrus? Surely you jest! We'll make room for a new body pillow.
Actually, if you sleep with your Garrus pillow to the left and your Liara pillow to your right, it always feels like your mid mission.... I fall asleep like a baby. Lol
@TheEroica: Honestly I'm glad were aren't shown 10%-20% of the game, I want to be surprised when I go into ME4 like it's ME1 all over again. As for quests I don't really care about them in the ME games, it's all about the character/team progression/building and that story. From what they've shown off though I have no doubts ME4 is gonna live up to the expectations I had for the original trilogy (even though ME3 left a bad feeling in my gut with that ending).
Not really. I never had much expectation for the Mass Effect series. Mass Effect 3 even managed to exceed my expectations in a few ways.
I was already planning on waiting till all the DLCs come out, even before I swore to not give EA a single cent of my money this year.

Mac Walters has said that the quests tie with the story of the planet....so hopefully it will be more like TW3 and less like DAI.
Also, each planet should play differently.
I was worried when I was building it up too much in my head. When I realized that the stream of information and gameplay and marketing, especially for an EA game, was more or less non-existent, I realized that regardless of whether or not the development process is going through issues, there is nothing for me to get hyped about. So till such time I'm able to play the game, or actually get my hands on some significant, valuable information about the game, I'm not gonna have the chance to be worried about it.
I can see why a lot of people are worried, though.
I honestly heavily enjoyed DAI.. If they went with that formula, but made more varied questing and a stronger final third of the game (that was the most horrid thing about DAI imo, the final parts of the main quest were horrible and it felt like they ran out of ideas and time) I think I will enjoy it.. To me DAI is the happy medium between open world and closed off tightly narrative gameplay.. Too open, it loses depth and focus.. Too closed, you lack freedom.. Giving us moderately large but well developed areas to me is much more preferable.
They better start showing some multiplayer. Game is coming out very soon and we haven't see anything about it.
So long as there isn't a color choice ending, I'm sure it'll be fine.
LOL, can't boil it down any better than that ??
@TheEroica: agree. i just want to see some multi action. its about time we see some. have they mentioned if its still 4 players co-op or the number was increased?
Played all the 3 previous games and will play this, but not day 1.
UNACCEPTABLE!!! ????
ahhhh, get it when ever you like
Not really. I thought Dragon Age: Inquisitions' blueprint for an overarching structure and game-loop was fine. Its open world hubs had a checklist approach like other games (Witcher 3) and mundane sidequests (Xenoblade Chronicles). Dragon Age Inquisition still had secret dungeon areas, areas specifically there to tell some isolated environmental narrative and late game enemies roaming about in low level areas. I often wondered if was playing a BioWare game sometimes, which is a good thing. Just dont have anything that resembles that god awful Wartable or have your game build up this hub and lead to nothing.
If it sucks, then whatever. Move on. There's other better games to play and superior sci-fi universes in other mediums to engage with.
@AdobeArtist: I'm jelly of your avi and sig :P
Good gooooood. Let the Jelly flow through you, and your journey to the butthurt side shall be complete! ?
Mass effect 2 was the perfect balance for pacing and gamplay, I am not worried as long as the story is enjoyable.

No it wasn't.
It bogs down because instead of character quests coming out organically from the plot or the world, they come one at a time in a contrived and formulaic way to where Shepard has to play nanny and solve everybody's problems. ME2 is a bunch of filler with an atrocious main plot. However, the character quests themselves are good.
ME3 had a far better balance for pacing and gameplay.
Well I've never played a ME game (my brother calls me a dirty sinner all of the time for this) but this one looks quite ambitious. However, that ambition can lead to a lack of focus and with that said I feel like the combat in the game looks...wonky. Something about the stiff animations or the common trope of a way overpowered character is just really off-putting. Why do I always have to play as an ultra-mega-badass in every game? And, I'm jumping to conclusions here, do devs tend to over look things as basic as movement and the feel of combat? Story, setting, art, characters shouldn't even be in consideration until moving your character around a generic space feels right, feels fun and feels satisfying even while doing very basic things. Not to go off on too much of a tangent but, yeah, it seems ME:A might fall victim to this clutter-the-gameworld-with-a-bunch-shit-and-skill-trees-and-customization-but-basic-gameplay-is-uninspired-and-leaves-the-game-somehow-feeling-dense-but-shallow trap.
Yeah, I'll STFU now but the focus on content/immersion over the basics is an irritating trend in modern gaming. Muh immersions!
Let's just hope it's not as bad as the choose your favorite color ending that makes all your choices meaningless for the whole series from mass effect 3. Let's also hope it doesn't have the boring, useless padding from Inquisition
Yet the final choice doesn't bring the dead back to life, and the outcomes of the B-plots mostly are unaffected by the final choice. Get your facts straight. You are only right if you get the worst ending to the game where you blow up the galaxy.
@texasgoldrush: wrong
Critics and fans unanimously agreed that the ending is shit and ruins the lore
Critics were mixed actually, get your facts straight.
And much of the fanbase are mindless power fantasy drones that simply put, didn't get the power fantasy ending they want.
And you want to talk about lore, you cannot claim something "ruins the lore", when most of the "lore" comes from characters, who can turn out to be wrong.
