I wonder if people are mistaking AMD/Nvidias ability to put capable graphic accelerating technology in smaller devices, as a move away from the traditional use for GPUs and so forth.
[QUOTE="Eponique"] Apple fanboys = worms, like how sony fanboys = cows.clone01Ahh, I see. I actually have a few Apple products (iphone, the laptop I'm posting with now), but I hear you. Apple fanboys seem to drink the Kool Aid quite a bit. At the end of the day, a Mac is a PC. And if you're a PC gamer, Apple is a pretty bad choice due to the lack of software supported.I have a Iphone 4S and I love it. I also think that Ipads are pretty cool. But I realize that there are other products out there that are just as good if not better. I love when people come in here and think they are really doing something because they made a decision based primarily on marketing.
All that proves is that they are gullible.

No kidding. We have a couple of Mac Minis, iPod, iPhone. Good thing Apple doesn't listen to its fanboys. If it did, they'd run the company right into the ground. I quit listening to them after they kept saying Intel is the devil* and all and the iPod will always be Mac-only. They've eaten so much crow I don't even bother with them anymore.
*I can imagine the looks on their faces when Apple announced Macs will be using Intel CPUs for the first time.
Who said PCs were on the bleeding edge of technology? they are *far* behind proper workstations used by movie studios. Not to mention speakers, amplifiers, receivers, projectors, cameras etc.

Aren't those devices hookable to a PC as well?
As for proper workstations:
Here's a tidbit. Notice the brands.
http://bladesmadesimple.com/2010/05/yet-another-win-for-hp-blades-but-why/ Most workstations nowadays are beefed up PCs or Macs.
If you're talking about workstations such as the Iris Indigo (pictured) and HP AUX, they were at their peak during the late 90's. I used to operate one which was used for making toxic downwind forecasts in case a rocket booster blew up and its propellants scatter all over the place. But, cheaper PC tech has been replacing them. Look at Sun and how its hardware evolved.
[QUOTE="SauceKing"][QUOTE="SaltyMeatballs"] You're a moron. Tablets are smaller and therefore more expensive, and don't even match the best PC's, nowhere near. The link you provided supports more of his argument then your argument. Just saying that you might want to re-read the whole thing and not just focus on the half a line that you want to focus on.
Oh man this thread reminds me of around 5 years back where everyone went around claiming that laptops would be the future of PC Gaming:D
Ofcourse it all progressed like most allready knew, Laptops could not be used for any heavygaming, nor any kind of hard work, overheating and incredible short lifespan being the cause, and having a laptop plugged into the powersocket alwaysseemedlike some kind of joke to me, it was basicly a really akward keyboard mousepad paired with a really horrible screen, not much more mobile then a desktop PC, since most Gaming Laptops would drain in a few hours, and get burning hot).
They failed at doing all heavy tasks like a desktop (but quite handy for doing light work such as typing, and such).
Then came the Ipad, and once again we heard the sme old "this thing is going to repalce the PC" Sure... they might replace the laptop, but anyone who is into gaming in a serious manner, would stay way clear of them, they will replace the laptop likely, but Again I doubt they will be bale to replace the PC. They lack any and all the power needed, and they lack interface aswell.
basicly what TC says, is something like "I accept a worse term of gaming in favor of portability". Even the 6 year old consoles (6 year old tech mind you) can outperform those, and would serve as better multimedia hubs (which the HD twinds does a prtty fine job of to be honest).
I am a techgeek sure, I have an android, a few lappys, a desktop a console and a handheld this gen. The consolee Desktop, and handheld are great for gaming, the rest? light games, and ports of REALLY old games with REALLY simple interface sure, anything else? not so much.
I like how my Android is less of a phone, but pretty much a pocket computer, and I especially love its GPS, but when it comes to gaming, it fels so clunky and pointless, that I tryied to game on it for 2 months, after that the constant annoyance of running out of battery, often REALLY bad games, and sup par gaming experience made me leave it alone for that purpose.
(and yeah I AM one of those people which has 3-4 gadgets on me always, because battey tech is so abysmal, that having 1 thing that does all things runs out so fast, that it is more worthwhile to have 3-4 dedicated things which holds battery for 5x the time).
You know what would be amazing? What if we could take all this amazing tablet technology and some how combine it all into a larger much more powerful device? I mean, think of what one tablet can do, now imagine we could combine that power and make a device many times more powerful. If only there were way!
You are a f*cking idiot. Buying mainstream mass marketed mobile technology (Apple no less) does not make you an enthusiast.
Who said PCs were on the bleeding edge of technology? they are *far* behind proper workstations used by movie studios. Not to mention speakers, amplifiers, receivers, projectors, cameras etc.

They are when it comes to games. Compare the price of one of those workstations with a Gaming rig and you will see which is the most beneficial to gamers.
I have always been a tech enthusiast and kept a cutting edge PC. But the reality is, PC gaming is dying. My last gaming PC purchase was a laptop, then i bought an iphone and a tablet computer. Pc gaming is trending towards smaller and more efficient. You arent bleeding edge if you are still outfitting tower cases with enormous graphics cards.... new technology is more compact. It doesnt matter how many cards you have running in SLI, if you own a tower case, you are no longer technologically savvy... you are old, you are behind the times... your giant gaming PC is outdated. Get over it PC gamers, your rig is old, and you are old.... you are a relic. Stop pretending you are somehow on the bleeding edge of technology.SauceKing

how exactly it supports his arguments if desktop gpu's sales were increased ? Also the article is about industry focusing more on APU's . Where exactly in that article says that discrete GPU's sales are down or anything similar ?The link you provided supports more of his argument then your argument. Just saying that you might want to re-read the whole thing and not just focus on the half a line that you want to focus on.
SUD123456
Hmmm no it doesn't. The article specifically says the PC hardware market shrunk because people were waiting for Bulldozer tech to come out and that was enough to balance the increase in sales of GPUs, and that AMD's mobile market increased due to the success of their new notebook technologies.
You may want to take a learn to read course if you think the article supports TC, because your performance was pretty poor here.
Since getting my iPad 2 I never turn my PC on anymore except for gaming every now and again.tomarlyn
you realize an ipad2 IS a PC right? You use the PC for the fastest best experience, you use a tablet/laptop for convenience and portability.
[QUOTE="SauceKing"][QUOTE="starjet905"]Smaller things have their place. But that doesn't mean small things can replace all the big devices. After all, can super computers be replaced with tablets? And no matter what tricks devs use, I can always see the low res blurriness when I play a console game.adamosmakisuper computers WILL be replaced with tablets. This will happen. Personal computers used to use an entire room. Computing power is always shrunk and reduced, its only the dumb ass PC enthusiasts that are all for giant graphics cards... because they are old men too dumb to accept the future. again do you have a link to prove anything you say because i already gave you a link that says Dektop Gpu sales increased in 2011 Also personal pc's taking up a room? What the hell ? i think you confuse them with servers I think he was referring to computers of yore, you know from the 1960's/1970's. However, I don't think tablets or smartphones are going to replace desktops. Rather they more likely will complement desktops, like laptops have.
If the gaming PC was going to disappear, it would've disappeared by now. Look how quick netbooks came and went.
That said, I still like my Toshiba netbook.
[QUOTE="SaltyMeatballs"]Tablets LOOK cool... that's about it.SauceKingburgeoning tech, then again i played quake online on a $3000 computer... which in the 90s was the hottest PC on the market. if you know tech trends desktops have been outdated for a while, and tablets will probably overtake laptops in 5 years. Desktops are seriously old technology for old people... no real tech enthusiast would ever promote old ass PC tech.Sometimes the technology of yesteryear is far superior to the "newest" "latest and greatest" technology of today. I still claim that a vinyl record sounds better than compact discs and digital files, I think Super 35MM Film looks far superior to "High Definition" Camera's, and that Desktops are far more powerful and cutting edge than any smartphone or tablet. Sure you have more portability with a tablet and smartphone but you have more raw-power and options with a desktop computer. You cannot play Battlefield 3, Far Cry 3, or Crysis 2 on a tablet, you simply cannot do it. Don't bring up "Onlive" either as the quality is usually horrible and the smartphone or tablet is not running the game directly.
An "enthusiast" is someone who is interested with almost anything big and small, and not just what is the most popular thing on the market. That's like saying someone is a movie enthusiast but will not watch any movie passed the current year we are in. You need to understand the word before considering yourself one.
Also, while we're at it, get off my lawn, you crazy youngster.

I'm not sure about video and images. But, analog audio always come closest to the original or source. The one good thing about digital is it's easy to edit out any noise. Digital may sound cleaner. But, fidelity still isn't as good as analog.
PC Gaming is not dying, it's really freaking awesome.
BUT, the iPhone/smartphones and tablets are awesome pieces of tech.

pretty much this they are awesome to have aroung but i love my gming pc and its not going anywhere

They're so slow. Convenient but I would never want one
People anticipate the death of the PC as if it is the second coming of Christ. Am I the only one that actually notices that? Every second topic I read is about how someone would furiously masturbate to the idea of the PC dying.

I will never be able to take a person like you seriously. Your self-procaimed "technology enthusiast" tiltle is an insult to technology altogether.
The desktop PC will be an obsolete product, phones are becoming as powerful as midrange computers, but without the huge size and huge costly power consumption. Modern and future cell phones have 500,000s+ of applications, games and productive office suites.
An example: Motorola Atrix 4g, two 1.2ghz processors and has a laptop/desktop attachment, replacing traditional desktop. I've seen quite a bit of people on the streets using their cellphone as the "brains" of their computers.

yeah go ahead and try to run crysis 2 or witcher 2 at even medium setting on that. the apps for smartphones are great, and some games are entertaining for a while waiting for something or on the way to ****work but i like real games thank you, not your 500k+ versions of angry birds

Plenty of FUDs coming from ARM camp...
This is comparing the performance of Moorestown to the lower clocked SGX 535 among other GPUs. The performance improvement is more than 2x
Quake 3 running 100 FPS on Intel Atom Moorestown.
Architecturally the 543MP2 has more than twice the compute horsepower of the SGX 535 used in Apple's A4. Each shader pipeline can execute twice the number of instructions per clock as the SGX 535" (1)
