The desktop PC will be an obsolete product, phones are becoming as powerful as midrange computers, but without the huge size and huge costly power consumption. Modern and future cell phones have 500,000s+ of applications, games and productive office suites.

An example: Motorola Atrix 4g, two 1.2ghz processors and has a laptop/desktop attachment, replacing traditional desktop. I've seen quite a bit of people on the streets using their cellphone as the "brains" of their computers.

Plenty of FUDs coming from ARM camp...

This is comparing the performance of Moorestown to the lower clocked SGX 535 among other GPUs. The performance improvement is more than 2x

Quake 3 running 100 FPS on Intel Atom Moorestown.

Architecturally the 543MP2 has more than twice the compute horsepower of the SGX 535 used in Apple's A4. Each shader pipeline can execute twice the number of instructions per clock as the SGX 535" (1)

yeah go ahead and try to run crysis 2 or witcher 2 at even medium setting on that. the apps for smartphones are great, and some games are entertaining for a while waiting for something or on the way to ****work but i like real games thank you, not your 500k+ versions of angry birds

That's his point. When the next big thing becomes the mainstream, it's all of us who will be left behind, console gamer and high-end PC gamer alike.

Left behind? Tablet and phone gaming is for casuals, travelers, waiting in line at supermarket etc. Core gamers will always want cutting edge games with proper controls.

As long as it rakes in the cash, do you really think publishers are going to care that it's casual? If it's more profitable to do so, the people funding game development will jump ship in a heartbeat.

Your troll attempt is pretty pathetic. You guys just don't put any effort into it anymore do you.

Core gaming rakes in billions per year. COD breaks records each year, Skyrim is the fastest selling game in its franchise. BF 3 is EA's fastest selling game ever, should I go on? Devs arent going anywhere. Core gamers arent switching to mobile gaming, people who didnt used to play games are the ones getting into mobile gaming. Publishers will simply begin funding more games since the market is growing, not shifting to mobile.

Who said PCs were on the bleeding edge of technology? they are *far* behind proper workstations used by movie studios. Not to mention speakers, amplifiers, receivers, projectors, cameras etc.

seanmcloughlin

They are when it comes to games. Compare the price of one of those workstations with a Gaming rig and you will see which is the most beneficial to gamers.

Absolute best PC hardware for a gamer: $11,000 AT BEST. Absolute best cinema equipment: $6,000,000 has been done in KSS with Sony SRX T420, McIntosh amps, Snell THX reference speakers etc.

this post is so full of bs i don't know where to begin.

pc gaming is not dying, as a matter of fact steam is growing a lot every year. in other topic its been discussed im not gonna repeat myself to a lvl 1 troll.

no gaming laptop is gonna have the real power of a gaming desktop pc unless you are willing to spend $ 4k in a laptop, i usually have my gaming desktop pc for playing and my laptop for working

iphona and tablet pcs don't have any real power to run decent games, they are nice to have and have some fun games but they are a joke to play games in, they are usually used for portable media.

"It doesnt matter how many cards you have running in SLI, if you own a tower case, you are no longer technologically savvy... you are old, you are behind the times..." thats gotta be the most ignorant comment i've read, go to any lan party and see how many go with laptops. In sheer power, desktop pcs destroy everything else.

i don't even know why i answered, you are obviously some kind of pathetic console troll. As a technology enthusiast i love having an updated gaming rig

who still buys desktop PCs? nobody., outside of PC gamers, which are well behind the times. This is the perfect example of unwillingness to adapt. and my last gaming pc purchase was actually an a72 asus gaming laptop.... after nothing but standard PC desktop purchases for over 10 years... i stayed on the bleeding edge but unlike PC gamers, i adapted.

work stations. anyway me and two other friends are building pcs right now. soooooooooooooo there.

you realize an ipad2 IS a PC right? You use the PC for the fastest best experience, you use a tablet/laptop for convenience and portability.

Browsing the web on my iPad is a faster and better experience by the way because I don't have to wait for it to boot up. And no its not a PC, not by my definition or most people's either. An iPod is not a PC is it? Unless you want to be a douche and picky about it.

I dunno about you, but until HTML5 becomes the norm for most interactive content on the web and developers start moving away from Flash (which will happen, but will take time), I don't see how using an iPad for internet is the "better" experience.

EDIT: Beaten by bebi_vegeta to it.

It's true there's very high-end A/V equipment. But, what are you implying with these equipment? If these equipment can be hooked up to a console, so it can with a gaming PC. Otherwise, I see no connection between these equipment and video gaming.

Fine? Apart from getting no ads i haven't really noticed a difference and can browse everything i used to. Do you know what you're talking about? I can get browsing a lot quicker with this than turning on my PC. Seriously using a loud and power hungry dinosaur like a PC for browsing the web feels pretty dumb when I have this.

That'd be true if you compare an iPad to most laptops and you're on the road. At work, a PC is rarely turned off. At home, all my computers are on 24/7. When I need to conserve power, I put them to either sleep or hibernate mode. My main PC takes all of 1 second to wake up from Sleep Mode and another 5 seconds resuming the WiFi N connection. It also resumes right where I left off.

My habits have adjusted as those capabilities improved. Like some have said, the main draw of an iPad for me would be the portability. I'm certainly tempted to buy one.

Crappy to you because they don't work on your precious iPad. Anyway, the "better" experience of watching videos is now going to a website, then discovering that videos don't work and then going back to YouTube hoping the video will be there?

Its not "my precious iPad" chuckles. Its my first Apple product and I was a fraction away from getting an Android tablet instead. Is that the adolescent bull you have to come up with to try and pull some weight? Apart from Youtube and GS I never even whent to other websites looking for video, before I even had a tablet. So again what am I missing out on because there is no change for me.

Wow, nice... and your only argument is that you think PC are dinosaurs and loud (maybe the garbage you have is). Missing FLASH, how the HELL don't you get it???? The only thing about your IPAD is the portability, which my freaking Cellphone does that just fine. There's nothing nicer or better about browsing on a IPAD then PC.

[QUOTE="tomarlyn"] I already have but as I suspected you would just try to be awkward at someone like me for the sake of it and your opinion is irrelevant to me anyway. Its a better experience.

Awkward? Wut? :| No one's opinion is relevant to another obviously. How does that factor into a debate, beats me. I'm asking you, HOW is it a better experience when it cannot display a significant portion of the web? Remember, YOU may not use that portion. But you don't know what other people use.

[QUOTE="Bebi_vegeta"][QUOTE="tomarlyn"][QUOTE="Bebi_vegeta"] Do I know what I'm talking about??? Wow... Flash only used for adds... your ridiculous, go on the apple web site, you'll see a bunch of people complaining... but not you, IPAD IZ PERFECTZZZZZZZZ. Loud and power hungry dinosaur... as if browsing required power for modern PC with power saving tech... hell, it looks like your ignorant on all fronts here.

Get your head out of your arse, you people are all the same. Im sorry but its just that much better than using a PC for browsing. You probably cant give me one decent example of what im missing out on, as I already said I'm browsing everything I could before but nicer.

Missing FLASH, how the HELL don't you get it???? The only thing about your IPAD is the portability, which my freaking Cellphone does that just fine. There's nothing nicer or better about browsing on a IPAD then PC.

Well you're wrong, I'm sorry. I've been browsing the web for the last 20 years on PC's and laptops, this has been the best experience to do that. I really do not think you understand how insignificant Flash is for everyday browsing unless you cant live without Flash games or ads. Maybe you should just try one for a week if you can afford it, instead of reading horror stories and forming a false impression.

[QUOTE="starjet905"][QUOTE="tomarlyn"][QUOTE="starjet905"] Its not "my precious iPad" chuckles.

That is you. Just because it is enough for you doesn't mean that it's the better experience.
It is a fact that the best way of experiencing the web is the way that will allow viewing of all content, irrespective of significance.starjet905
This is what you need to get into your head.

Thats a really stupid comment. I could just as easily discount your opinion that it isn't a better experience just because thats YOU. This is ridiculous. More =/= better

Buddy, just using facebook... people posting video says require flash... Yeah, you have to open another tab for youtube just for viewing the video... that makes the experience of browsing so much better... this is just one example. Maybe you should stop defending your purchase so badly and stop being blind about it.

Again, you're missing the point. Alright, let me explain it a bit better. There are two methods of accessing the web. Method 1: Allows you to access ANY part of the internet. Anything. Method 2: Allows you to access almost anything out of it. Almost. Which is the better method?

So you have to minimize the browser and open an app separately. Better experience. Okay. :|

Now you're really splitting hairs and it takes literally 5 seconds, its also much nicer than the web site. Seriously just give up. In fact once the Facebook app is up all you need to do is swipe left on the screen to bring it up instantly whilst doing anything else, swipe the other way to get straight back into browsing. Do your research before trolling.

Splitting hairs? Having to open separate apps for different websites is okay cause the app looks "nicer"? Wow. Apple fanboys sure are the best kind.

You have to keep an unnecessary app open for it. -__-

I'm probably going to be replacing it with an Android once Ice Cream Sandwhich shows the goods chuckles. Again you have to resort to childish crap to try and save yourself.
