@drfecalstein: Why do you care do much about the sale figures, anyway?

Are you thinking that if the game fails and Ubisoft collapses, that will be a strong warning against other developers to not allow players to attack shrines?

It's great that you guys care so much about reducing vandalism at Japanese tourist sites. You're going about it in a really weird way, but if the gaming population rejects AC Shadows then it's a pretty clear sign that people feel strongly about how tourists act around religious sites.

I dont care about shrines personally but your close.

Because Ubisoft represents everything that sucks ass about modern AAA games.

Repetitive rinse repeat gameplay

Bloated open world slop

extremely high budgets that push out games that show minimal effort.

MTX for every aspect of content to maximize squeezing every possible dime out of the player

D.E.I pushed in characters/story strictly for virtue signaling points, not for meaningful story/plot

and people are tired of it, Ubisoft has a horrible reputation now, this used to be a company that was one of the best at one point. now they are atrocious, even worse than EA. They deserve to fail and hopefully it will be used as a case study for the rest of the industry, and end up getting us all better games in the future

We finally have some physical sales figures for AC Shadows in Japan:

Famitsu Sales: 3/17/25 – 3/23/25 [Update]

  1. [NSW] Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition (Nintendo, 03/20/25) – 74,689 (New)
  2. [PS5] Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land (Koei Tecmo, 03/21/25) – 27,810 (New)
  3. [NSW] Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land (Koei Tecmo, 03/21/25) – 26,315 (New)
  4. [PS5] Monster Hunter Wilds (Capcom, 02/28/25) – 20,621 (763,490)
  5. [PS5] Assassin’s Creed Shadows (Ubisoft, 03/20/25) – 17,701 (New)

In comparison to the launch weeks of other recent AC games in Japan:

PlatformTitleSalesSource
PS4Assassin's Creed Odyssey45,166https://www.4gamer.net/games/117/G011794/20181010060/
PS4Assassin's Creed Valhalla45,055https://www.famitsu.com/news/202011/19209739.html
PS5+PS4Assassin's Creed Mirage28,436https://www.famitsu.com/news/202310/12320259.html
PS5Assassin's Creed Shadows17,701https://www.famitsu.com/article/202503/37909

A few possible factors behind its low physical sales in Japan:

  • Western games rarely sell that well in Japan, a market dominated by domestic Japanese games. Ghost of Tsushima was a big hit there, but that was an exception to the rule.
  • The PS5 has a smaller install base than the PS4.
  • Digital sales are not included. While Japan was more physical in the past, the market has been shifting towards digital in recent years.
  • AC Shadows was launched on Ubisoft+ across all platforms. Ubisoft+ subscriptions aren't included in the sales.
  • Controversies over flag plagiarism (from some Japanese theatre group) and temple desecration (eventually patched out), the latter discussed in Japanese parliament (where they were concerned about tourists vandalizing temples).

They should've launched it on the Switch. Also, launching it alongside Xenoblade was a no. Though it'll do better in the Western gaming market.

look at the cope here

worse selling AC game in japan.. is the one that takes place in Japan. Maybe Japan saw a gay black samurai running around to a hip hop beat slaughtering japanese people and said.. that shit looks stupid and these games havent been good anyway "i think ill pass".

none of the newer AC have been on switch.. this game would never run on switch..

Tencent owns 25% of AC, FarCry, and RB6 as of a couple days ago

give it a few more years and it will be 100%

This isnt a bad thing, UbiSoft is ran like shit, once all these people get let go the games will get much better under Tencent. (crazy sounding saying that, but its true) Splinter Cell and Beyond Good and Evill might actually be good!

Don't forget hardwenzen's crowning achievement on System Wars:

Chin threads and infinitely regurgitating youtube hate content.

That's all he has created: fecal matter.

I keep hearing more good things about this game. Gameplay is tighter than ever, excellent visuals, a lot of people are enjoying their time with it, I never saw this coming but I might actually be buying and playing an AC game in 2025.

If there is one AC game to get into, it's this.

I hear Ubisoft will be adding in even harder difficulty modes, woop!

@R4gn4r0k: Sounds like the game is flexible. For example I like that Yasuke is like an easy mode you can switch to on the spot if you just want to get past a tough fight. That seems convenient for people who want to take a more laid back approach.

@Chutebox: I haven't played any AC that has come out in a while so I'm willing to try this one and see how it goes. The setting is cool enough and it will tide me over until Ghost of Yotei gets here.

Sounds like the game sold well after all.

Industry reporting has placed it as the second best selling game of the year so far (behind Monster Hunter), and it has apparently topped the US charts for the last three weeks in a row.

The game was always gonna sell well: an entry in the most popular game series ever made. Set in Japan.

But YouTubers sure like to exist in a bubble.

I say let them.

@Chutebox: Yeah I'm talking specifically AC Brotherhood - Ac4

Was the biggest franchise (non sports) if I recall correctly.
